By the way
Feather, do you consider yourself an Angelina-style or Carolyn-style Ottophile?
Ottophile? ...I like that.
I'm not really sure, as I have a thing or two in common with both of them... What would you consider the main classifications for each type to be?
I already listed my top five on the previous page but what the heck...
1.
Return of the Sinister Six- This story really slated Ock's place in the big leagues and alternately made you realize how small potatoes some of Spidey's other villains were in comparison. When the team confronts Ock about the betrayal, the four of them together are unable to land a single blow...as he effortlessly stops their advances and calmly enjoys a cigarette (and first place in the Badass Olympics goes to...).
Not to mention that ridiculously wicked and humorous global get-rich-quick scheme.
2.
The Owl/Black Cat- In all honesty, it's probably the most exciting comic story I've ever read. Ock was throwing out epic beatdowns and humiliation like free candy while Peter was left to silently reflect on life and love in what he thought to be his final hours. An amazing story with a great buildup to the climactic final battle.
3.
The Master Planner- Another amazing story that had a combination of elements I enjoyed from the above two listed. One of the prime examples of Otto's genius and cunning (I enjoyed Peter's struggle in this one as well, very touching).
4.
Year One- Like M.P., I also prefer this to the other origins. While I don't believe him to be quite as banana sandwich as portrayed here, it did have a lot of memorable lines and is the deepest look into his past and psyche to date. Also, though it doesn't seem to be everyone's cup of tea, I do enjoy Mr. Andrews' art.
5.
Reign- I really,
really loved the idea that Ock would have the foresight to make such plans in the event of his death. He does seem like the type of character to me that would make sure that even after he ceased to be, the world would still be greatly effected by his presence. They don't call him the Master Planner for nothing!
5. An Obituary for Octopus. The backstory of Doc Ock is revealed at last, and interwines nicely with the modern day story being told in this issue where Ock is stealing AIDS infected blood and radioactive isotopes. Spidey suspects Ock has something really fiendish in store as usual. But is he right....?
Was anyone else phenomenally pissed off at Spidey in that issue?
Spidey: Oh, I know! You're not just a villain but in fact a
human being with
feelings and must be developing a cure to save lives!
Ock: If I were would you believe me?
Spidey: Hellz no!
