Are there any sources stating that Phoenix would get a role in the movie, or are they pointing to being the title role? Because it seems like many are putting their hope that he is not playing strange?

Phoenix as Strange would be AMAZING.

Phoenix would be brilliant as Dr. Strange. I'm just surprised he'd be willing to sign a multi film contract or be willing to put up with the kind of promoting required.

All the trades are saying that he's up for the titular role, but there is reasonable doubt among the fanbase, including myself.

Also, his involvement is far from guaranteed. Word is that discussions are long from over.

Feige has said in recent interviews that they were close to signing the actor for Dr. Strange, that contract negotiations were involved but that it probably wouldn't be announced by the time of SDCC. So if it's Phoenix they are into more than just talks.

I would absolutely love Phoenix as Strange. This is a fine example of going for something a bit different, but getting someone with the talent who fits. I think it would be amazing. Would also mean Cumberbatch is available for Morpheus.

Feige is always good for a few surprises though it seems doubtful he’ll be able to bring in Joaquin Phoenix, who’ll star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange film.

Why can't some of you just accept that some people dont care for Joaquin in this particular role. I love the actor and he's been fantastic in almost everything ive seen him in. Not against him in the role, just picture others in it and by the way I'm not a Cumberbatch fanboy. Good actor too but dont care for him either in this role.

He's wasn't on my short list (which consisted of Johnny Depp and Viggo Mortinson) but he's a very talented actor. At the very least, I'm happy that Jared Leto didn't get the role since he's far too good looking to be Doctor Strange.
