Edit
And Cumberbatch doesn't?
It's the type of actor he is. Idk, plus as someone else stated, he has an awkward look lol
And Cumberbatch doesn't?
I, personally, can definitely see him as Strange.
However, like many others, I just don't see him signing on for a project like this. Or, primarily, for as many films as Marvel would require.
Norton didn't leave. He was, more or less, fired for being incredibly difficult during the production of TIH, and going into Avengers.
But Phoenix leaving after one film is the thing I think makes this unlikely.
I seriously doubt he'd agree to the 6-9 films that Marvel would want to sign him to, as they do most of their actors.
Thanks for the correction. I knew he was difficult during the production of TIH, but I assumed he left on his own accord because of the troubles that he had and whatnot with Marvel.
But yeah, Phoenix, as great as he is and as much as I would love to have him, seems like the actor who has no issues with leaving after a film and or butting heads with Marvel over the direction of the films and his character. I think he'd be fantastic and easily become the new face of the MCU after RDJ departs (and Chris Evans as well once his tenure as Cap is done), but it might be tricky for him to commit to such a long thing.

Not sure it will happen, but still....
Ugh from the unimaginative Cumberbatch to the old school overly fancast Phoenix? ;csad:
I hope Phoenix is just in talks for a villain; as strange a person he actually is, he's no Dr. Strange.
I dont get how people cant see Phoenix as Strange. What is it about him?
Yeah I'm not really sure why all the doom n' gloom here. Phoenix is incredible. As someone on Twitter mentioned, maybe him turning down BvS was simply a matter of him not leading the actual movie himself. There, he'd be third fiddle basically to Cavill and Affleck. Maybe he was actually looking for a franchise, and then this falls into his lap (if true).
I'm not trying to start a Marvel vs. DC thing. But I do think that if Phoenix is in talks right now for Strange, it's more likely he's actually Stephen Strange, as it's been pretty unusual for Marvel to cast supporting roles/actors prior to the main star (CATFA excepted).
This also makes me wonder if they're planning on using him a little bit in AoU, or at least a teaser.
