Doctor Strange Casting Poll **NEW** - Part 1

I do think that they will need to have the origin, and not simply because it is not well known to the public. The film will also have to serve as the public's introduction to the supernatural side of the MCU as well as a Doctor Strange film. His origin story will fit that well, with the audience is being introduced to the supernatural world along with the character.

I'm surprised the casting news has gone so quiet since the Joaquin Phoenix story dropped.

I wonder if the Phoenix dealings may have not gone through.

I'm still hoping for Pedro Pascal but if Phoenix did in fact get it then I'll be equally as happy. It would be neat having some fresh blood headlining another Marvel film though.

Maybe recent means yesterday.

Recent means "since this report came out." If the report were completely unreputable, I wouldn't be saying anything, but it is possible Feige was referring to older thinking even if it was two weeks ago.

I'm still surprised he's interested. I'm still sorta assuming it was a rumor

Thats all we know it as unless we hear from Phoenix or marvel.

Sometime it takes a long time to get everything settled with contracts. I'm sure Marvel is doing their best to keep everything detail in house for now but we should know about the main cast soon.

It was a bit surprising because he has started to recover from the fake retirement thing in the last couple years with a couple phenomenal performances.

One thought is this would likely take him all the way back and past where he previously was at. And I'm sure he paycheck won't hurt after doing a lot of smaller films.

Considering who Marvel has gotten for their last two flicks regarding supporting roles, Phoenix would not be a shocker.

I'm starting to think Phoenix wasn't looked at at all for Strange, but for Mordo, and Cumberbatch was looked at for Strange.

It could've been a rumour just like so many other ones fanboys eat up and think are a certainty.

That's definitely possible. I remember Kevin Feige responding to a question, right before SDCC, about whether we'd find out who is playing Dr. Strange, and he said something to the effect of "That depends on how good your sources are." And I remember some twitter buzz going around that certain people were in the know, and that the person in talks for Doctor Strange would be an exciting, offbeat choice.

None of that says "It is definitely Jaoquin Phoenix", but I think it all adds credence to the possibility that that rumor was true.

Sites like Deadline were acting like the role was Phoenix's as long as the contract negotiations worked out. So I'm guessing either the negotiations are still on-going, they're done and Marvel is just sitting on an annoucement, or they were premature/flat-out false are the possible reasons why we haven't heard an update.

But if they can't get Phoenx, I do like the Brody and Hawke suggestions.

One of the few Marvel characters we actually want to see a chunk of the movie wasted on their origin, and they're taking it out.

Good thinking.

Meanwhile, the next Spiderman reboot will start with Peter Parker as an infant.

We don't know anything for sure, I'm welling to bet his origin will be there.

Doesn't look like we'll be so lucky.

ost superhero movies start with the origin story, showing who the hero was as a common schmo, how they got their powers, and how those powers change their lives. It’s a way to ease audiences into the weird ride that they’re about to undertake. Thus, Peter Parker and the spider bite. Thus the endless retelling of baby Kal-El’s escape from Krypton, even though it’s freakin’ Superman and everybody knows that story.

Not so with Doctor Strange, though, according to a new report from Badass Digest‘s Devin Faraci. In an appearance on the Meet the Movie Press podcast, Faraci claims that Marvel is taking a different tack with Doctor Strange and skipping the origin story almost entirely. Oh. haha

Don't know if its any less credible, but having as few sources as possible for this doesn't disappoint me.

admittedly I'm not really up on my Doc Strange
but what's so awesome about his origin??

personally I was happy to hear we weren't getting another origin movie, I'm so damn tired of 'em

(oh and p.s. Ever since I rewatched the "Taming Strange" episode of South Park, it pops into my head every single time when discussing Doctor Strange, lol)

Im tired of seeing origins ive already seen like Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man otherwise if it's something I've not seen then I dont mind.

Trekking through harsh landscapes like the Himalayas (a la Batman Begins) to get to mystical places, the dangerous trials and errors of learning magic. You don't have any interest in seeing those? They seem far more captivating than a guy getting a bug bite or even a guy getting strapped to a chair and injected with steroids.

The doctor part of his origin isn't that interesting, but the journey to the Ancient One and seeing the gateways of magic open up is a movie unto itself. The same reason an Iron Fist origin movie would kick ass.
