Doctor Strange Casting Poll **NEW** - Part 1

yeah the whole training thing could be cool (though they may have to alter it from the himalyas to avoid similarities to BB)
And the Doctor thing would be a bit different from what we've seen before

I'm just tired of origins in general, like Marcvader said, Batman, Spiderman, and Superman have spoiled me on origins in films, and Wolverine ruined my opinion of origin stories in the comics. Not that I didn't like "Origins", per se, but it has not helped the character one iota.

My favorite thing about the X-films is that they were a team already established, no overlong setup (it's also why I though FC was pointless and uninteresting)

Saying Dr. Strange doesn't need to tell the origin is not the same as saying his origin is not interesting. I would just rather these movies tell the stories they want to tell like how Ant-Man will be based on "To Steal an Ant-Man." Back when CBMs were first getting popular there seemed like a number of filmmakers kept saying "Now that that's over we can get to the awesome stuff." Why wouldn't you start with awesome stuff? the judge of what's awesome being the person actually making the things.

He actually did trek through the Himalayas to find the Ancient One, so they could keep that. But I agree on being sick of origins in general, but that's mostly caused by the rehash of the ultra popular characters having their origins shown so much throughout the years, whether by cartoon, television or movie. We've seen Spidey, Batman, and Superman origins a million times by now. And even if we hadn't, none of them are as inherently fascinating as Strange's. Batman a possible exception, as Begins had some of the same elements.

I'm a big fan of the "get to the good stuff" view on superhero movies, but there are a select few guys both novel enough and interesting enough to make work. Magic seems to help a lot.

A bunch of rumors coming out that Hamm is in talks to be Strange. Apparently in an interview he as asked about it and couldn't look the reporter in the eyes and seemed very off when asked.

Trekking through harsh landscapes like the Himalayas (a la Batman Begins) to get to mystical places, the dangerous trials and errors of learning magic. You don't have any interest in seeing those? They seem far more captivating than a guy getting a bug bite or even a guy getting strapped to a chair and injected with steroids.

The doctor part of his origin isn't that interesting, but the journey to the Ancient One and seeing the gateways of magic open up is a movie unto itself. The same reason an Iron Fist origin movie would kick ass.

Its also the perfect opportunity to reveal to the audience how magic works: where it comes from, the rules it operates under, how a person goes about learning it.

Does magic work consistently? Or does have to? It certainly would be easier to write about but each magic Marvel character seems to have their own rules.

Actually, I think he'd be ok. Don Draper is essentially pre-wake-up-call Dr. Strange but in the 60s.

Thats my top pick right with Phoenix. Young and talented enough to carry a franchise, and he's "A list" enough to get butts in seats at the theaters.

Jake Gyllenhaal is actually my choice to replace RDJ as Iron Man when the time comes.

But I don't think he'd be a bad Dr. Strange. Though I would prefer someone a little bit older.

There were rumors about him earlier too. I wouldn't be surprised if he were cast. He'd be good for it. (Phoenix is still my personal pick though).

I would... have to find some way to tolerate it. I'm really not much of a fan of that guy.

Brody has always been my top choice for Strange, he has a lot of qualities that make him a really great fit. The only thing I wonder about, and maybe this doesn't ever factor into these decisions, but Brody's ex-wife is Hemsworth's current wife. Not that it matters because I don't really see Brody being under consideration.

Another guy I kinda like is Justin Therioux. He has a good look for Dr. Strange. I agree with some others John Hamm is just meh for me.

I keep hearing Justin Theroux as a possible option for Doctor Strange. I don't see it because of his experience writing Iron Man 2.

As far as I know there didn't seem to be any contention between Marvel and Therioux. So with that said, I fail to see why his writing experience on a highly successful yet somewhat flawed film would have any impact on him being cast as Strange.

It *better* work consistently. If it doesn't, its reduced to bad writing and deus ex machina. This doesn't mean it needs a giant law book of rules and limits, but it does need a clear sense for the audience of how it functions in the broad terms. The viewers need to believe their are rules, even when they aren't told the rules.

Lets hope Marvel announces the actor between Sep-Oct. Movie should start production next year, so it should be around the corner

Pierce Brosnan is still my choice for Strange. May not be on anyone's radar and most will hate on it, but I think it would be a shrewd bit of casting.
