Well on the plus side, this means he won't likely be cast in a DC or Star Wars movie.

That's not a plus, he would've been a great MM! :argh:

Then again, I think J'onn should be a black actor's role, so maybe it's for the best.

He'll be great. My only issue is that there were like a dozen people I'd have chosen before him lol. There were a lot of different but good potential candidates for this role.

But in no way is he a bad choice. Bring on confirmation, Marvel.

Suzannes head is going to explode. :D

I have literally never been more bored with such a perfect choice for a part, LOL!!

Oh well… I'm still there opening day :)

Ill reserve judgement until the first trailer. I hope he can pull it off though, his role is an important one for the future of the MCU.

A predictable casting isnt a bad one. It just means that person just really suits that role, and it certainly helps when that person is a fantastic actor.

Patrick Stewart was fancasted for years as Professor X. See how horribly that turned out..lol.

What makes them predictable is what makes them good for the role, but its not a very interesting announcement. I think people are interpreting "meh" as "eff that" and I don't think that's the case

Somehow I knew it was going to happen for some strange reason. No pun intended. Going to be interesting to see how he's going to do the role. More than likely, his fan base is going to be bigger like Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

An epic, eldritch-bolt blasting wizard battle between Loki and Strange ... I have to go change now. :csad:

Well actually I do like the idea of him as Brainiac. But that's in the past now!

I am convinced his voice, and the requirement for not sounding silly when shouting the sorts of things Strange tends to spend his time shouting, is why BC landed this.
Plus, he has the frame for a long coat/cape. :woot:

If SPIDEY likes him, he can't be half bad. :cwink:

Forgive me. With the amount of gifs I post, I sometimes forget.
I more than "like" him my dear sir. I fangirl and swoon like nobody's business when I watch him on Sherlock.

I love your gifs. :yay:

I wouldn't say there's much doubt to if he can pull it off. I'd say much of the problem is that people wanted someone more unknown because they wouldn't know what to expect as much. He'll do good in the role.

I wonder if Strange will have a British accent. I think I'd prefer it.

Yeah these reactions are surprising to me, I mean maybe it is an easy choice but I want a Strange film to have guaranteed success.

Cumberbatch has a rabid online fanbase but that doesnt mean its going to translate to guaranteed success. He still has to be good and the film has to be great.

Yeah in his natural voice, not so sure with an American accent. BC american accent is just fine, not good or great. Even with that being said I don't think he'd sound silly reciting those spells. Same thing with Reeves. I think both men are of the few who wouldn't come across as silly when casting spells and reciting all the mystic lingo. Although I do think it will be toned down for the movie. It's not needed to have Strange reciting incantations at every turn when using Magic. I think for bigger spells or something that is required but for the most part it's not needed.

does this mean we get to have a cumberbatch/hiddleston magic battle some time in the future of the mcu?

Cumberbatch has been very successful with Sherlock, and is looking at an Oscar nomination this year with "The Imitation Game". The fashionable thing is to complain about whatever he does. General audiences, especially women, will love this.

Yeah, its a wonderful choice!

You'd never know that Loki is a master wizard with how he's been portrayed in the films.
