I'm gonna throw in my two cents and say that I'm very much in the Johnny Depp camp. Why? Roman Polanski's THE NINTH GATE. The Corso character is pretty much the way I think Dr. Strange should be in a film. Hell, even Depp's look in that movie reminds me of Strange. I'd be happy to have him take on the role and I completely dissagree with the "benefits" of getting an unknown. Hemsworth coulda been terrible. We got lucky. Genuine leading-man charisma doesn't just come naturally (that's why not every actor in Hollywood lands top billing and 7 figure paychecks). Norton & Downey are examples of how established talent can do wonders for these characters. Yeah, sometimes we come across a Hugh Jackman - that with no prior cred, brilliantly nails the character. But those are flukes. They're rare. I say give the role to the most fitting candidate, be it a newbie or an A-lister.

I loved that damn movie. I think i'm the only one I know who did. I have many ADD friends who can't sit through a commercial though.

That could translate to a great Strange vibe.

hey wolvie think it's time for the pictures to be posted again?, lol

I think so.... People seem to have lost sight of the one, true Strange :P

it's like you...DON'T want the movie to be successful... doctor strange isn't exactly a household name, its a miracle thor did as well as well as it did financially. with depp, he's a great actor, and he's a draw, i don't see the problem. but whatever, i think gary oldman could've made a great strange, but he's probably too old now.

If you actually think it's a miracle, then you're a fool to yourself. It was a success because of clever writing, as far as the title character's portrayal, marketing and the snowball effect of the MCU. Having an unknown like Hemsworth meant people looked at the poster and saw 'THOR' rather than '[insert Big Star's Name Here] as Thor'. That makes a substantial film when trying to sell a movie. To assume people only see films based on the level of fame of the actor is simply misguided.

i'm not saying that that's the only reason, but it helps. and some of the most "substantial" (as you put it) movies in history had big stars. Casablanca, Singing in the rain, basically all the classics from that period actually.

I think it's more to do with the fact that to some Depp has become such a predictable and stale presence as a blockbuster leading man.

i trust marvel to find the right person for the job.

they will AUDITION or TEST people, and most likely not just pick them based on who else they've played or how much they look like the character.

And guess what, some of the most successful Marvel films made in the last 2 years HAVEN'T had big stars as the main character. As has been said, Marvel have proven they have what it takes to cast properly, so they're going to cast the net wide and get the best possible actor, rather than just go through the Hollywood phonebook of famous, big stars.

Exactly. Though, I will say that I wouldn't be upset if Depp got the role.

I have a lot of faith in a Doctor Strange film. Not just the actor, but a film overall. I'd be so happy to see Strange become as famous as Iron Man or Thor. I doubt he'd be as famous as Spider-Man since Spider-Man, Superman, and Batman are obviously the most popular 3, but he could be very popular.

I still want Kevin Kline for this role. I think he's just perfect. He can play the smart doctor as well as the cocky side in the beginning.

I saw that DTV a couple of night ago. It sucked. But any way not really based on my knowledge of the character, because I dont know much, I say Adrien Brody.

He's a great actor who is pretty versitile, he is well respected, and I wouldnt mind seeing him in more blockbuster roles (since I doubt PRedators 2 is coming out)

Man, Kevin Kline WOULD have be great, but I think 63 is pushing it a little.

I'm late to this thread...

Anyone mentioned Benedict Cumberbatch?

He looks like Thomas Gibson and Ben Cross had a baby.

The Ninth Gate & Frantic are my favorite Polanski films. He gave such a deliciously mysterious vibe to those films. It'd be a pipe dream to get Polanski to helm a CBM. But back to reality now, if Depp were cast & given a sinister canvas to work on, he'd be superb. He has the ability to be truly understated. Like Mickey Rourke in Angel Heart. I'd love to see a Dr. Strange film with that kinda motivation. A man that can maintain his bearings despite the undeniable supernatural implications surrounding him. It shouldn't be in the vein of Thor. It needs to be dark & ominous like The Prestige.

I still love the suggestion someone made of Guillermo Del Toro, but that guy is WAY too busy.

Also, maybe not for this film, but I'd love to see Duncan Jones have a crack at a Marvel film.

I think he has been mentioned but he's so nice it's good he's mentioned twice!

I couldn't imagine him doing an American accent though. If he was allowed to keep his own accent that would rock

Why not? You get American's playing Robin Hood who don't even attempt to fake an English Accent, why not let an Englishman do the same with an American hero?

Are you calling Dr Strange an 'American Hero' or rather just a hero who IS America.... Because one of those is factually correct but the other one I would strongly disagree with :P

How old is Dr. Strange roughly supposed to be? If he's under 40, then Brody is a pretty good choice.

He's an American and he's a hero. Stop trying to read more into things than whats there......bub. :p

I believe when he starts his training he's late 30's. By the time he finishes he's early 40's. Brody could do it either way really.

In that case, Disney & Marvel should definitely consider him for the role.
