Doctor Strange has found a director

Also I'd like an actor who could play a believable, experienced surgeon.

Jared Leto doesn't fit.

Very excited to hear that they picked a seasoned horror director for this film. Dr. Strange ain't Harry Potter. Strange's magic runs more towards the black side, and is firmly rooted in Lovecraftian horror imagery. Sounds like what MS is aiming for here.

I think you guys should give leto more credit he's always been one hell of an actor.

I've got no problem at all with Leto as Dr. Strange. But the site that reported it isn't even sure about its accuracy, and seems to think that could be outdated information.

Not a big fan of Derrickson. Exorcsim of Emily Rose was decent I guess, but Sinister and the Day the Earth Stood Still were both pretty bad. Still, glad we got a horror director for Strange.

The Russo's film resume wasn't exactly stellar before they got TWS job. Well we all saw how well that worked out (extremely). Plus I really liked The Exorcism of Emily Rose, so I'm ok with this choice. As for Leto not being to pull off a convincing Strange, here's what he did to himself for his last film role:

That takes some hardcore dedication and the role earned him an Oscar last year BTW. So I think that he could pull of Strange just fine.

Day the Earth Stood Still was made during the time when FOx was micromanaging everything so that's something to definately consider before dismissing Derrickson .

I don't know about the director. But I'll be looking forward to this.

Ethan Hawke is good choice.

Stillson mentions Dr. Strange in The Winter Soldier.

I can't remember the exact words but he said the name as though Cap and Widow would know who he was talking about.

Will Dr. Strange be set prior to The Winter Soldier or was the potential of magic in Strange just something that freaked Stillson out?

The guy that disappears into roles doesn't fit? Haha, since when is Dr. Strange rugged? I suspect it's more about wanting an actor you already have in mind.

Not really. I just don't think Jared Leto looks like an experienced surgeon. :yay:

Maybe some people prefer an actor with dark features or foreign looking and not require a ton of make up. I don't care as long as he doesn't look germanic or nordic as a couple people were suggesting Mads Mikkelson for Stephen. Mordo yes, Strange not so much.

Jared Leto can probably pull off being an experienced surgeon. The dude is a good actor.

I'd just be distracted by his intense prettiness to focus on the movie.

The only one of this guy's movies I've see is Day the Earth Stood Still remake, which I hated. Granted, that's probably because the movie had 2 of the worst actors out there, Keanu and Jaden... Anyone care to fill me in on the rest of his work?
Did we do okay with the director we're getting?

This. Leto will be fine.

I guess this locks down the Doctor for July 8th, 2016.

Leto is a great supporting actor, but I just don't see him as a leading man. At all.

I have the same issue. Maybe in a small indie flick but he feels all wrong for this type of big budget franchise.

I don't know if Leto will be interested. Going by his usual career trajectory it'll probably be another five years before we see him on screens again.

Going back to the director, though, anyone curious about Scott Derrickson may want to check out his new, occult-themed film, Deliver Us From Evil, hitting cinemas early July.

Can he say "By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth!" and make it sound cool? If so, sign him up. :word:

My pick

Never seen any of his work, but I feel like I should check some of his work to get an idea of what he might bring to the table at least visually speaking.
