Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread - Part 19

Fine, I'll say something positive.

The recent audio, "The Two Masters," was absolutely amazing. It stars Geoffrey Beevers and Alex Macqueen. Instead of these two Masters teaming up like what happens with multi-Doctor stories, the two Masters are fighting, and they're forcing the 7th Doctor to get involved.

I really do miss Smith as the Doctor - the season 5 incarnation. Amy also played a big part in my love of his run, which will probably never be recaptured for me.

The fairy tale style filming of season 5 was perfect for this show, at least in my opinion.

Season 5 is still the last time I more or less enjoyed an entire season of NewWho.

I really hope Moffat brings it for this last season.

Missy may not be in Season 10

No regeneration in season 10

I just rewatched the Eleventh Hour and in a weird way I feel really sad after it. Quite depressed actually.

I really miss 11 and Amy. The chemistry was the best ever (IMO) and Matt Smith absolutely nailed the role and completely made it his own.

I like Capaldi, but he's missing something. I'm not really sure what it is. Maybe just a little more sense of wonder.

Anyway, thought I'd share this with you all. Perhaps the show (during this timeline) just reminds me of things going on in my life back then. (I've been watching Doctor Who since Tom Baker back when it was originally broadcast).

I agree. For all the **** people give 11's later seasons, Smith's charm always made it work, even with the mediocre episodes. Capaldi's Doctor, on the other hand, lacks that kind of inherent charm in favor of a grumpy old man persona. It makes his mediocre episodes a bit harder to struggle through.

12 is just too broody and too joyless. And the attempts to inject life and fun into him with the guitar and the sonic sunglasses just feels forced.

Yeah in hindsight, alot of the stuff they did with Doctor 12 is just gimmicks
Altho he has some of the best episodes of DW I've ever seen, like the Mummy episode, and the Ground-hog day episode...

Talking about the episode he was trapped in the castle, and was constantly killed and revived for a billion+ years/

Yeah that's the one, I couldn't remember the episode name heh. That was a great episode of any tv show out there now, really

12 already has at least 2 modern classics, but overall, his era has been a bit dry.

The standout of this era is definitely Missy.

Really? I thought Series 9 was the best since the fifth. And I think Capaldi has been better developed in comparision to Smith, they made me believe his relationship with Clara grow as the show progressed.

There were a few stories that weren't that great. But good lord, there were some great scenes where they just unleashed Capaldi.

Or in the case of Heaven Sent, the entire episode, was amazing to see him carry the entire hour pretty much solo. I've loved Capaldi as the Doctor so far, and am really glad to hear he'll probably continue in the role after series 10.

That's what it is.

Twelve is devoid of any quirks. No goofy clothes, no catchphrase etc etc

They went too far in the other direction to be "Different" than Smith and Tennant.

Even the older doctors had a charm to them

When they try to give Twelve some quirks like "DUDE!" and glasses and a guitar it's just like your parents trying to be cool

"Just....No. Please stop"

I do agree that season 9 was Capaldi's best so far - but really, that wasn't hard.

Looking forward to see what the eventual new show runner will bring to the table and whether it gets back to some of the Gallifreyan mythos that was enjoyable in the original series run.

I think the "last of his kind" story has played out and we've seen too many appearances from the time lords to know they're not actually done.

While the "Last of the Time Lords" bit has ran it's course, I hope we don't see Gallifrey, or the Time Lords, on a regular or even semi-regular. Hopefully, Chinball will get back to basics: Doctor, Companion, TARDIS, and accessible stories.

Plus the point of it was to destroy the Daleks as well, and they get to show up all the time anyway, so it probably is best to just wrap up the whole thing.

I'm glad the Time Lords are back. The Gallifreyan government (the CIA sending the Doctor on missions, the boring politics, the trials, etc) only works in small doses, but it's always fun meeting individual Time Lords.

I got to meet Michelle Gomez today!

A) She's quite foxy in real life.

B) She's hilarious and engaging; she spent some of her autograph time defacing her own sign.

C) She asks YOU for an autograph.

I just finished watching the two Peter Cushing DOCTOR WHO movies. I thought they were fun good old fashioned sci fi movies. I know most Who fans don't seem to think much of them because they aren't in continuity with the series....but what do some of you think about them?

They're fun, and capture the spirit of Dr. Who, if not the exact story.

That's the way I felt about them. I've read over the years people putting them down because they weren't canon.....but they were fun and light hearted adventures in space and time....so, I have no problem with them.

I'm sure there's some kind of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey way those movies can be integrated into the main canon in a future episode.
