Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread - Part 19

I just finished watching the two Peter Cushing DOCTOR WHO movies. I thought they were fun good old fashioned sci fi movies. I know most Who fans don't seem to think much of them because they aren't in continuity with the series....but what do some of you think about them?

I can't wait for the Doctor to return. It feels like it's been ages!

Was good to see more of "Bill" on the recent NYCC panel. She's got a great personality in real life so it's easy to imagine some of that on the screen.

I was happy when Moff said this coming season is best summarised by saying "new".

It will explain the mythos and everything so you don't need to know a whole lot coming in. Good move if they're hoping to expand the fan base with what they're labelling as a real character when it comes to Bill, who asks and questions the obvious.

I know it's common to have adult actors play teenagers, but am I the only one who feels that these actors just seem waaaay old to pass as Coal Hill students, especially relative to how the school has been portrayed to date?

The cast is mostly mid twenties and they are playing 17 to 18 year olds.

I watched the first episode of the class and I liked it.

When I heard the show was young adult I thought a slightly mature version of the Sarah Jane adventures but this is more 16 plus. They dropped a couple s*** expletives. Characters were impaled and had limbs cut off. There was blood splatter. This isn't your typical aunty beeb Doctor Who spin off.

Class is surprisingly self aware. One character name dropped Buffy The Vampire Slayer and this show feels very much like Buffy but with aliens instead of supernatural creatures in the Doctor Who universe. I'm not sure how they will cover up a bunch of teenagers from a school in Hackney disappearing or being murdered every week. Seems like the kind of thing that would generate tons of police and media attention eventually.

I did chuckle at the Shoreditch trendy hipster joke by the headmaster.

I really like Class so far. The situation with Charlie and Miss Quill is surprisingly original. I'm not really feeling Ram or Tanya yet; it's like Charlie and Quill are The Doctor, April is the borderline Mary-Sue companion and Ram and Tanya are the buffoonish male companion to the companion. But the show is brand new, so I suspect all the characters will grow on me with future episodes.

Is it weird that I want Michelle Gomez and Katherine Kelly to hunt me for sport?

The only Class cast member who really doesn't look like they are their characters age is Vivian Oparah (Tanya). Oparah is 19 and is playing a 14 year old. I think she would of been more believable if she was 16.

I like Ram even though he is your stereotypical popular bullying jock that is a nice guy deep down high school character.

I know Doctor Who is usually about outsmarting the enemy rather than using force but I feel like this show could actually use the occasional blast or blow up the bad guy resolution. Unlike the Doctor and his select group of champions these kids don't really have a reason to not use force when their lives are threatened.

I think if they need to, they will remove the storyline limitation on Quill, and she can then kick all sorts of ass.

Gotta say, even by the very shabby standards set by a lot of previous Christmas Specials, this looks pretty terrible so far.

I mean, it's been forever since we've seen The Doctor. This should be something I can't wait for, but I watch the Children in Need clip up there and all I can think is, "Oh. I forgot. Who Christmas Specials are almost always awful."

At least it ought to have a season 10 trailer at the end ... :/

In an interview on Radio 1 Breakfast, Eddie Redmayne says he wants to play The Doctor.

"Would I do it? Yeah! It's a great show."

"I do see the resemblance. I see the scarf, I see the coat, I see the bow tie.

"I'm also a huge fan of those actors, love Matt Smith. I suppose the briefcase has a Tardis vibe to it - so yeah!"

"It looks like a lot of work. I've spoken to Matt and those schedules are pretty rigorous. Maybe when I'm 73."

Once they've spent the first season budget his salary then what? LOL

I'm expecting a big kitchen sink type ending to Moffat's 10 years on the show.

I stopped watching Doctor Who when David Tennant left, it wasn't that I didn't think I'd still enjoy the series it was just that I had a reason to jump off. Anyway with the new special been a superhero one of course I watched it and I loved it. The Superman references were heavy and that was probably where my main enjoyment came from.

Not going to lie, I was super jealous of kid Grant's wallpaper.

That was a fun episode. Particularly loved the Doctor discovering Superman.
