Don't Hate The Hater, Hate The Hate! - - Part 14

My favorite product placement was in the first Transformers movie (yeah, I know). A Mountain Dew-branded soda machine transformed into a Decepticon and started killing people with rocket-launched soda cans. Also, the steering wheel of a Cadillac Escalade crushed the head of its driver. Honorable mention to The Avengers, which blew up a Dr. Pepper truck in the Battle of New York. Bet that moved lots of product for the sponsors. :word:

^ The movie that gets picked on the most here about product placement would probably be Superman II.

- Superman throws Zod smashing into a Coco-Cola neon sign
- Superman lands onto a Marlboro cigarette truck
- a couple walk out of a KFC restaurant

A Kentucky Fried Chicken bag pops up again in Superman III.

I remember Smallville had an entire episode that was pretty much a big product placement for Stride gum.

Chloe: Get in my YARIS!

Also, they didn't call him Product Placement Pete for nothing.

Pete: Yeah Remy Zero!

Haha Yes! that show definitely had some very obvious product placement moments.

The obnoxiously obvious product placement in Superman II was a big issue at the time because it was one of the first movies to feature it so prominently. The producers' decision to do it is understandable because of the way the film was financed. But at the time it was jarring to the viewer, particularly the stunt with the Coca-Cola sign. After more than three decades, and with in-scene ads much more common now, it doesn't jump out at the viewer quite as much.

In the early days of TV, it was quite common for characters on TV shows to suddenly start reciting ad copy and holding up products to the camera in scenes that played like part of the show(s). Quite a few cigarette ads were done this way. Even Fred Flintstone hawked Winston Cigarettes during an episode.

There are a tone of these ads posted on YouTube. The shows have gotten subtler about it, for the most part.

Something that I hate is when someone insists they're right, even when they're absolutely wrong. Makes it even worse when they're smug about it, regardless of how trivial it is.

Perfect example: Friend A and I are helping friend B paint his house this weekend. Friend A insists that we should paint the walls before painting the ceiling, despite being two different colors. The correct way to do it is to always paint top down (ceiling first) yet he insists that we should paint the walls first (ironically, he's always talking about how pragmatic he is, and how much he hates it when people don't do things correctly).

It's totally stupid and trivial, but it got me fuming and now I can't sleep.

Also, I hate not being able to sleep.

Ceiling first, then skirting boards, door frames, windows etc. Then you do the walls. This I learnt from a professional painter and decorator.

Exactly! But this guy, cause he's built a few end tables, thinks he's Bob freakin Vila.

I hate how disrespectful and spoiled my 8 year-old niece is. Everyone who has had to deal with her has given some kind of complaint about her, yet my brother and his wife don't do anything to discipline her, even when she openly talks back to my mom and insists that everything she does is wrong be "mommy lets her do it her way."

Haha, when we go to paint the house, I think I'm going to say "I don't think so, Tim" whenever he says anything. Wonder if he'll get the hint.

There's quite a few kids like that out there. What really burns me up is walking through a store and a child's misbehaving and the parents are negotiation with the kid. They're trying to make a deal to get the kid to behave. No,no, no. When I was a kid and I misbehaved my mom put a stop to that immediately. She didn't **** around.

I hate people that walk right in front of you when you're trying to take a picture.

I just got back from a dinosaur exhibit with my son, tons of kids there, everyone taking pictures of their kids with the dinosaur displays. There are some people that are so wrapped up in their world they just walk wherever, cut off kids, step in front of you, etc.

I "love" seeing adults step in front of children so they can get a better view of something.

i hate how certain marvel writers talk down to the fans
y'know part of the reason you get paid is because of the people that buy the comics

i hate how pathetic trade ins are at places like gamestop/eb games, they give people next to nothing for the games then charge almost as much as a new copy, hell i've seen pre owned games on the shelf that cost more than buying a new copy

I think the worst thing is when parents pointedly ignore their children's misbehavior in public. Some parents will literally turn and look the other way while their little precious is climbing on store displays, running around screaming, etc. They just do not want to be bothered with controlling and disciplining their offspring, no matter how disruptive or even dangerous the child's behavior is. I've seen parents let their kids play on heavy equipment, climb to the top of outdoor sculptures, run into parking lots and busy streets, etc., all without saying a word. The worst are the ones who let their young children dance about at the edges of subway platforms. If any of those kids get injured, I'm sure the parents will be quick to sue the store or property owner.

I really, REALLY hate when people say they don't want arguments but yet actively try to troll and annoy people.

Oh. Well then just run them over with your car.

What about running over them with someone else's car?

That way you don't have to worry about all the messy clean up.

Eh.

I think I'll just strap him to a chair and make him watch The Last Airbender on repeat.
