Dr. Lecter Invites you to Dinner. The ''Hannibal'' Thread - Part 4

In terms of the mythology, Clarice is important. Her presence on the show would arguably be a bigger reboot than this season has been, because we'd essentially be getting a third protagonist. You can make alterations to the source material, ( for example, Fuller has suggested possibly changing Clarice's race) but I think it has to ultimately keep true to the spirit of the novel. Mason Verger and Cordell didn't try and personally cannibalize Hannibal in the books or the films, but it still feels true to that storyline. If they did Silence of the Lambs they'd need to keep that Hannibal/Clarice element intact because ultimately that's what the story is about.

But I think they could push on without that storyline if they really wanted to. Fuller has said time and again that he wants Lady Murasaki introduced into season 4, so maybe if he wants to touch on Hannibal finding companionship/friendship/love outside Will he'll explore that character.

I personally love Fuller's exploration and reimagining of the Hannibal/Will dynamic because to me, it truly seems to lay the foundation to the Hannibal we see with Clarice in Silence of the Lambs/Hannibal. Though for that to happen Will would have to become the really messed up Will Graham that Clarice knows in Silence of the Lambs, but to me the longing for an equal, the search for a surrogate Mischa and Hannibal's attempts to control and influence the people that come into contact with him is there in Fuller's Hannibal. (albeit with a heavy focus on the exploration of brotherhood and a non-sexual romance between two heterosexual men)

Fuller did mention that Will wouldn't necessarily have to be written out if they hypothetically were ever able to do a proper Silence of the Lambs, so they could end up buddy-copping things for awhile before they really hit up the key parts of the novel. But I don't think Fuller would ever change the core of Hannibal/Clarice if they ever got there and I think due to the viewers knowledge of what has happened with Will, I think the Hannibal/Clarice dynamic might even be elevated.

I'm also all down for racebending Clarice. But I'm also super down for Fuller's suggestion of Ellen Page.

Why the hell is Hannibal's cell so luxurious? I hate that.

Eh, Katherine Isabelle is enough for anyone to want to continue living.

Yeah, that ticked me off a bit. I understand this show has some absurd/surreal elements and designs, but I wasn't expecting his cell to be quite that nice and spacious. It's essentially a living room.

Eh, it works for me but I can understand why it wouldn't for others. The way I see it, it's Alana trying to avoid being killed if Hannibal were to escape. :o

His cell and the fact that he can still cook really ticks me off.

...are we seriously criticizing, of all things, his cell?

Anyways, I'm sure there's a good reason for it (and I was being half serious when I said that Alana probably made it that way because she values her life).

I also found this:

#HANNIBAL's CELL IS A DUPLICATE OF ALANA'S OFFICE, AS IF THEY CONVERTED A SIMILARLY SIZED ROOM FOR HIS PRISON #BeholdTheRedDragon

Mason was right. Alana's dead by season end, putting Hannibal firmly in Chilton's care.

Hannibals prison cell is nicer than my apartment. It's also bigger. I gotta start killing and eating people if I'm gonna ever upgrade.

Hannibal deserves a special cell, he's a special situation and person.

It's probably a real fireplace that was cemented shut, since someone said it was an office they converted in the Asylum.

Please tell me some good news about this show. :csad:

I think the cell is a little ridiculous. I liked the concept of Hannibal having a barren cell and relying on his own memory palace.

I think it loses some of the effect of seeing Hannibal stripped down to nothing.

That's a complete straw man and you know it. I never said people weren't allowed to have an opinion about it.

The point I was making is that it's one of the least significant aspects you could be talking about when it comes to 308, not to mention the least interesting.

Something more interesting to talk about would be how Brian Reitzell is almost the MVP of that episode because the score is soooo good and jibes with the scenes so well, particularly Francis'. You really get that sense of transformation just from the sound. Indeed, the sound design was truly essential to the storytelling in that episode.
