$159,308,268 DOM so far. Thor2 was at $150,036,561 at this same time.

It's going to outdraw Thor2 by a substantial margin. I didn't dislike Thor(He's actually one of my very fav MCU characters),but let's face it, DS is easily the better movie.

While I agree that I think DS is better, I'm more comparing them due to similar release dates and OW's. Thor2 actually squeaked out a less than $1m victory over DS when comparing OW's. And it added to that lead on it's 1st Monday following that. But it didn't take long for DS to turn that right around. Thor2 ended with $206M. I think DS could go as high as CA:TWS numbers($260m-ish).

TDW only won opening weekend and 1st monday because Veterans Day was on its first monday. DS was always going to catch up with Veterans Day on its 2nd friday. DS does have better legs than TDW, but the opening weekends and 1st monday numbers exaggerate the difference. If TDW also had Veterans Day on the first friday instead of monday, it would probably have made less on the opening weekend than DS did, and definitely less on the monday after.

It's unlikely that DS will catch up to TWS, which got about 1 million more than DS on the 2nd monday and again on the 2nd tuesday. DS is currently right in the middle between TDW and TWS, and it will most likely end up in that range. That would give a domestic total of about 230 million.

This link shows a graph with the domestic gross the 3 movies made over time.

3rd weekend for TWS was 25.6m, while TDW made 14.2m. DS is expected to make 19-20m in the 3rd weekend, which is right in the middle between the two, once again.

If DS keeps its lead over TTDW it'll end up with around 218M.
We'll see over the week end and the next if it's lead increases over 6% or so.
If Strange holds better against Fantastic Beasts than TTDW did against Hunger Games that will be another good sign going forward and it might happen given the magnitude of the hit TTDW took in its third week end. Anything over 15M this week end (which is 6% over TTDW 14.2M) will be a step in the right direction. BoxofficePro has it at 20M.

Plus it's adding to it's lead over TTDW every day. It just made an extra $1m yesterday over the same day in TTDW's run. I think that gap is only going to get wider from here. Should get to at least $30m ahead of TTDW, IMO. I'll be happy as long as it beats XMDOFP & XMTLS, which it has an excellent chance of doing, only needs just over another $75m DOM. A $235m finish will git'er done.

I'm thinking this will end in the $220-225 dom range.

It's at $160m domestic now right? I can see it getting over $200m. $40m over the next few weeks will be do-able, before the December competition kicks in.

I predicted DS would finish a little over 500 million. So happy to be wrong.

This was def one of the more wildcard movies for the MCU. Luckily Feige and co knew what they were doing and stack the proverbial deck for this film and it shows. Def pleasantly surprised DS is exceeding expectations. This is also good news if the rumors of BC taking a prominent leadership role in the MCU are to be believed (which I think is a good idea).

Agreed. At this point I think the general public is so accustomed to the main 4 Avengers that Marvel needs to really push these newer characters in the Avengers films to keep things interesting.

The newer characters have got off to great starts and what we've seen of BP and the new Spidey suggest that run will continue.

Introducing BP and new Spidey was a very good idea. That's why I think Carol Danvers will be introduced in IW1. It really helps to set the table for the stand alone movie.

All we got for DS was a name drop as opposed to an appearance, but his origin story was such a great one (and GREAT job of pacing in DS) that it worked well. I don't think it would have worked well to have an appearance by Stephen Strange. It just doesn't fit.

I can also see BP and CM taking on leadership roles in and post IW. For CM, her origin can be setup in IW1 and her movie can jump right into it. I know they are putting a lot of thought and effort into CM and hope it pays off.

Indeed. I had some issues with Civil War and didn't love it as much as everyone else despite acknowledging it was a good, entertaining film. But my favorite 2 things were Black Panther and Spiderman. I think i'm slightly tired of the old group. I want the new wave of heroes mixed with the old to create some new blood. Loved Black Panthers attitude and the way he carried himself. No nonsense badass. And weirdly despite having had so many Spidy solo films this Spidy felt fresh. Job well done by Marvel.

Dr.Strange is now my fav character going into Infinity War not just the character himself that's interesting or Benedicts terrific portrayal (so much gravitas he injected in the character) but also his capabilities make me so excited for IW. I think it's safe to say he is the least one dimensional character out of all of them. Even the change at the end was very subtle. It was difficult to have a read on him by the end of the film.

Cumberbatch is SUCH a good actor. I totally get your comment about his DS portrayal as multi dimensional. You just KNOW that there's more of him yet to come or develop.

The stable of actors in MCU right now is, IMO, much better (and broader) than any other studio's. Don't get me wrong, Fox has some very good actors, but Marvel has been knocking it out of the park recently. Boseman, Cumberbatch, Larson....it just doesn't get too much better than that.

Agreed. At this point I think the general public is so accustomed to the main 4 Avengers that Marvel needs to really push these newer characters in the Avengers films to keep things interesting.

The new main 4 should be:
Dr. Strange
Captain Marvel
Black Panther
Spider Man

Doctor Strange should be at about 200m by the end of thanksgiving weekend. How much more could it make after that? TDW made 20m after thanksgiving weekend (which was also on its 4th weekend), and DS should be able to beat that. I still think it'll end up at about 225-230m domestic.

It then needs 470m overseas to break 700m, and it's looking very likely that it will. International numbers are harder to predict because of the different release dates in varying countries, so I'm not sure how much more than 470m it will make overseas, or if it has a shot at 750m.

Most predictions for next weekend say DS will take another 20m domestically, while Fantastic Beasts is expected to make between 85-90 million on it's OW.

The new main 4 should be:
Dr. Strange
Captain Marvel
Black Panther
Spider Man

Spidey, IMO, has a lot of growing up to do to be compared to the other three. BP, CM, and DS are all mature, seasoned professionals ready for leadership. Spidey may be a big name in MCU, but this iteration of him isn't ready in the same way the others are.

Yes it worked very well. Would be nice to see CM in IW althought they may be pushed for time to include her. Yes wouldn't have worked introducing DS before his origin like it did for Spidey & BP. BP & CM are likely to be senior at the least if not leaders especially given Ant Man and Spidey aren't quite appropriate for that.

I'm guessing final DOM will be around 219.7 million...
