hopefully DA 4 will be closer to DAO than DA 2 or DAI.

cuz for me, the series went downhill after DAO.

and with Anthem now pushed to 2019, hopefully that means DA 4 won't be pushed to 2020.

Dragon Age 4 will be built on Anthem’s code

BioWare’s Anthem did not turn out great. There’s room for improvement – as there always is with a game driven by online features – but a troubled development cycle seems to have brought the title down every step of the way. That’s been reflected in Anthem’s scores, including our own review, but it seems BioWare is learning from its mistakes. For example, Dragon Age 4 is being built on top of Anthem’s codebase.

You might wonder how building on top of the base of a troubled game would help, but a big part of the problem with other recent BioWare games is that they’ve tried to reinvent the wheel every time. The idea is to keep prototyping until developers find what’s fun and decide on a vision for the game they’re making. For Anthem, that kept BioWare’s developers caught up for years in deciding on things like whether or not the game should have flying.

Under Casey Hudson, who returned to BioWare in the middle of Anthem’s development, the next Dragon Age will build on the existing tech used for Anthem.

As one anonymous former BioWare employee puts it in Kotaku’s report,Read more

wouldn't it be better to build DA 4 off of MEA or DAI tech instead of Anthem?

it would seem DAI or MEA would be more analogous to DA4, given that Anthem is an online multiplayer looter shooter with RPG elements, instead of an outright storydriven RPG which DA4 should be.

I guess it's because Anthem has the latest tech to build off of?

hopefully DA4 isn't some online MMO deal, cuz that would definitely kill my interest in the game. and my interest is very cautious as it is now, given Bioware's recent history.

Bioware really needs to hit DA4 out of the park to reclaim some of its past glory. Bioware needs to remember why its fans loved its games in the first place.

Dragon Age Inquisition was the last EA game I bought, and it will remain that way until I see how Bioware and EA screw this up.

Dragon Age is such a mix for me. I loved, loved the first game. I played it over several times. Then 2 came along...I was so disappointed. Then Inquisition came along, and I liked it. But....it just made me want to play the first game again, lol. I don't know. DAO just hit all the right notes, at the right time, and Bioware have yet to be able to replicate it in the series. Then with the reporting around Anthem, the mismanagement, and how Bioware treats it's staff....

Part of me wants to remain hopeful, as Inquisition was a clear improvement over 2. But, part of me doubts current Bioware can improve upon Inquisition to get it back to where I personally want the series to be. Heck, I'm becoming increasingly doubtful that Bioware will even be around to put out a new DA.

All of what I just said pretty much covers my feelings for Mass Effect as well. I probably liked 3 (minus the ending), more than most. But it was still very flawed, and Andromeda just tanked my enthusiasm for the series. I don't see Bioware bringing it back to it's former glory either. On the plus side, many of the Bioware devs that made the best parts of those series have moved on. Maybe they're working on a new spiritual successor IP somewhere else.

I think if DA 4 is another dud, then Bioware won't be able to recover from that. and they have no excuse to not learn from the mistakes of the past 2 games.

if we read another article about the developmental hell DA 4 went through, as we did with MEA and Anthem, then Bioware has no one to blame but themselves.

Sounds like another game as a service...

sigh...….

Anthem with dragons.

if that **** is true......then DA, and Bioware, are truly dead to me. And I will say EA helped to kill off Bioware with their game-as-service and Frostbite mandates.

now, with that being said, I'm not too sure I would have been that keen on the original idea of DA4. Having you been in charge of a "band of spies", while it sounds cool, to me seems a bit too restrictive for role playing purposes. Not sure if I would have been happy with that.

Schreier wrote the story, it is true. It explains why the Dragon Age director left the company. We are all ****ed.

well, I retain some degree of hope. since the article did leave some wiggle room in that it may not exactly be "Anthem with dragons." plus projects can and do change. And after Anthem's reception, maybe that will spur the powers-to-be at EA/Bioware to reconsider.

who knows. we shall see. but Bioware certainly isn't the company I trust as I did before. which is a shame.

And I actually enjoy Anthem...…..when it works...….lol. but I don't really want that model for Dragon Age or Mass Effect.

The problem is there projects keep changing. They already cancelled the more Origins version in favor of this. Why do you think the creative director left? Because they were still making that game or plan on doing that?

Andromeda and Anthem weren't accidents. The last two Dragon Ages weren't accidents.

I hope it is good. I just don't really believe it will be at this point. EA is all half measures at this point, which is exactly why this keeps happening. They won't pull a Sony and make a God of War. They want those little charges more then anything. They see them as pure profit and the point of their games at this point.

maybe the old guard devs who left Bioware can strike out on their own and form a new RPG studio.

Announcement next month.

hmmm.....hope we get something. though I read an article last week saying the next DA won't be out until 2021 or 2022 or something. I seriously doubt DA4 will be out this gen.

with Diablo IV going back to the darker, grittier "roots" of Diablo II, I'm actually hoping the next DA game will do something similar and go back to the roots of DA Origins.

Announcement next month.

After the **** they pulled with Anthem's marketing, Im not going to trust or get excited about any trailer footage or gameplay footage they release. Even if its sincere gameplay footage every concept, mechanic, element displayed could be thrown in the bin at anytime if Bioware or EA decides they dont like the direction the game is going.

That won’t work forever if people lose interest in the underlying games.
