Well I'm supporting Ragnar.CGI and the sepia color grading looks mostly terrible and jarring where it doesn't blend with the humans. But I'll still go see it for Ragnar.

No matter the time, it is about the money. Competing for quality man hours. With someone like ILM, they have a lot of teams and they vary a bit in quality. Star Wars will have significantly less post-production, but it will no doubt have better CGI.
Never forget CGI Harry from the first Harry Potter.I mean even ILM's shoddiest stuff is still better than a lot that's out there, maybe barring WETA.
Yeah, Star Wars and Marvel probably get the A and B teams due to Disney synergy. This is getting a C team, other than the Orcs, which is sad because there were all those articles around production where ILM reps intimated that they had something to prove with this movie, that though they are the masters with space scifi effects, they need to prove that they can compete with Weta and co in the fantasy realm. The backgrounds in this have that characteristic CGI haze, from the overuse of bloom type lighting effects, that I can't stand. Another part of the problem is that they are too slavish to the WoW cartoony art style. The humans' weapons and armor, despite being made for real, just looks too artificial and fake. They were too obviously over the top video game designs that are in too pristine of condition.
This is very true.every big movie in the last 5 years had at least 4 CGI companies working on the effects. ILM is not doing all the effects for this movie.
I think the filmmakers, and not the CGI companies, are responsible for the overall look of the movie. I'm sure ILM and other companies are doing the effects based on the directions they were given, and of course budget has a lot to do with it as well.
True, but this isn't the usual case of them having a tight post-production period with a lot of last minute changes. They have had 20 months of post-production with this film and Duncan Jones doesn't seem to be the Peter Jackson/George Lucas type who is constantly changing the film. And doesn't this movie have huge budget?

Yeah, I agree. No way Thrall is done.I rewatced the trailer on a bigger monitor. The scenery is actually nice until you see the Orcs. Now, there were no scenes where I went 'Oh crap that looks real' like how I reacted to Gollum or Davey Jones. The Orc baby kinda killed it. In no way is the CGI on the Orc Baby done. I refuse to believe that.

As someone who played WoW since Vanilla all the way to MoP and played the Warcraft games all I have to say is that I'm far beyond stoked to see this.
And I honestly dont get the complaints from people on the CG, I grew up watching movies with awful effects and seeing Azeroth come to life is far more enthralling to me than the CG. Unless its X-men Origins bad then most people sound like whiny babies on the CG.

Yeah, I don't mind the cg. My issues were the trailer are basically that the orcs compared to the humans look like cartoons (though they look great in stills) and the fact that there is no mystery or suspense to the trailer what so ever. It's like they felt the need to show too much in the first trailer. It feels more like the second or third trailer. I can see fans of the game enjoying the trailer but as someone not really familiar with it the trailer just came across as generic as hell.
