Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 3

So it's going to do well overseas but flop here?

Doing well in the territories so far, and the China forcast is apparently good. But not enough territories to truly know yet.

I read did very good in the markets it was released in.
Yep. Did especially great in Russia. The only pause is it hasn't open in the bigger markets yet, but China apparently looks really good.

Interesting that so far the studio hasn't been able to get North America excited for the film.

North America has moved on from the badness WOW has become a while ago. Though apparently it is still strong in many countries across the globe, especially China.

Still, I'll be really surprised if the sequel happens. Unless fans alone make so much money...

Fans aren't even making up half the money they already have now. Perspective.

As to a sequel. Legendary needs properties. Let's see what happens first. No idea what it will end up at yet.

Fans alone can make a big difference. This feels similar to a movie like Pacific Rim IMO. Some loved it, some hated it, some were in between, but it made enough to warrant a sequel because of the fans. I didn't care for PR that much myself, but I could see Warcraft having a similar fate where the fans and their appreciation (in numbers) is enough to warrant the sequel.

Blizzard has more fans than dollars WC earned this weekend. If everyone of them buys a ticket, it will return the film's budget easily.

That is not how this works. A good portion of Blizzard fans won't even pay for their games. There is no 1:1 here.

Which is why we are here 3 years later with the Pacific Rim sequel...

As I said before, Legendary is a very unique circumstance. They need properties, so PR and Warcraft don't have to set the world on fire to justify a sequel. But WB dropped out of PR because it wasn't actually profitable for them or anyone.

But they're still going ahead with it after he Chinese purchase of Legendary. It's not greenlit but it's out for the count, especially with the new director.

Not sure what you mean here Octoberist.

The Chinese company Wanda bought out Legendary a few months ago. People joked that they were going push ahead with Pac Rim 2 after it fizzled out latelast year, and a week alter after the purchase, Legendary got a new director for Pac Rim 2.

So you think it will actually happen, or you don't? I am not sure. Having a new director is something, but this all still feels like smoke and mirrors.

I honestly don't know...but Wanda might have their motives for pushing for another Pac rim. If you think about it, it would be shame to let it rot as an IP. Keep in mind they're a Chinese company so their perspective might be a little different on the success of the first one.

Now I get you, and I agree. I feel the same about Warcraft even if it bombs domestically.

They brought in one of the writers of Jurassic world to take another pass on the script. A bunch of design work and storyboarding was done a while ago. Who knows, but theres been a lot of actual movent on that project.

I hate the word agenda because it's a misused word, but in this case, I think it's appropriate. Wanda bought Legendary for a reason, and they have their own agendas.

Playing Diablo III again with a friend and the cinematics in the game are gold, hell, even WoW's cinematics were amazing...I don't understand why they didnt just make the movie a CGI movie like their cinematics and just bring in outside writers to polish up their stories.

Pretty sure PR2 was green lit with Steven DeKnight directing? I think the main reason it took so long was because Del Toro is known for wanting more money for his sequels, so I bet when he asked for 300 million to make PR2, the other guys were like "nope", and eventually they found someone else who could do it on their budget.

Yea, I watched all those OverWatch cinematics recently, which are fantastic, and they just should make their own full lenght animated movie.

Or look at Legion trailer, it looks great, too. https://youtu.be/eYNCCu0y-Is
And the over-the-top WoW armor looks just perfect on the CGI charaters. :yay:

But nothing beats well made film with live actors. And Durotan CGI looks wonderful, cannot wait to see that on the big screen.
