The Force Awakens Early Star Wars 7 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

I know it's not going to come close to Avatar, but I'd love to see it surpass Titanic.

Yeah I hate titanic a 3 hour movie where the first 2 hours nothing happens and then a hour where people drown. So yeah I hope it passes titanic to. The movie needs like what 400m to pass titanic?

You could reduce any movie to sound ridiculous. So stop the ridiculous ridiculing.

It's not like TFA could not likewise receive such simple negative breakdowns as well.

A lot of People liked Avatar and Titanic so obviously those films weren't trash. This isn't on the level of a Transformers film either, when you sell as many tickets as the those two films did you are hitting multiple demographics.

That is jut not true. I am not the biggest Titanic fan but plenty happens throughout. It is a damn good romance.

And the second half has the most jaw dropping non-stop set piece ever put to cinema.

Yeah Titanic has its flaws but it's got plenty going on. That "nothing" happening in the 1st two hours is called "a romance."

It is amazing how many romance films I adore that I am told nothing happens in. I just got into Poldark, basically an epic 18th century romance, and I love the nuance in each scene, how the covey the emotions between these individuals.

I think Titanic is one of the great disaster pictures regardless of its romance plot.

People don't realize how much practical details were put into this film. Cameron practically rebuilt the freakin' Titanic himself.

I wouldn't say that, but I like it just the same.
Really? From the moment the ice crashes with the ship to the ship breaking in half is a continuous stream of ratcheting tension, great character work, swelling emotion, genius camerawork, amazing stunts, great miniature work, state-of-the-art (for the time) CGI. It's basically an hour long college course on how to construct a set piece. Cameron at his absolute filmmaking peak. Utilizing everything he learned to masterful effect.

Does TFA still have a chance to beat Titanic? If it makes 900M DOM it needs 1.3B OS to beat it right?

Yeah. The match cut of the ruins of the real titanic to the one constructed for the movie is amazing.

Usually by manboys who think romance is 'icky'.

That is just how I fell about titanic lol. So with it being Monday and about noon in china have we gotten any idea yet at Monday china numbers?

Something like that. I am thinking about living this thread for like 2 weeks. By then it will be like the 24th on jan and the movie will have been out for over a month witch means out side of china it will be just about done making money. So if by then we are still a good amount behind titanic I think it would then be safe to say it wont make it but if we are really close then we can say yeah we will pass titanic.

Yeah I know a lot of people liked avatar and titanic but I also tend to have a unick opinion when it comes to things has there are a lot of things I just flate out don't agree with people no matter if you are talking about something I think is good that is consider bad or something consider bad I think is good it just happens a lot of time. But to me titanic is the 3erd worst movie I have ever seen before.

Titanic remains the WW all time box office champ when adjusted for inflation. I mean it isn't even close. It's at $3.8 billion. It's nearest competitor is Gone With The Wind at $3.5 billion and Avatar at $3 billion. SW: ANH comes in at #4 with $2.5 billion and TFA ain't gonna touch that either.

We forget that while Avatar was huge it also had a dozen years of inflation working in it's favor. Titanic comparatively was still even bigger(yes, I'm aware they did a 3-D re-release a decade later...even that aside Titanic still tops Avatar).

Titanic made about 1.8 billion think before the re-release and that was with out 3d and the next closet movie at that time I think was Jurassic park at 900m so yeah it was big for sure not going to disagree with that.

I have never seen Titanic placed over Gone with the Wind when adjusted for inflation worldwide, nor would that make sense, as I believe Gone with the Wind made made more overseas then it did domestically. Titanic would have had to double it overseas. Titanic is an amazing #2.

Hating on Titanic is far from being qualified as to having an 'unick' opinion. It's generic internet edgy anti-populism uttered since the late 90's.
