Elfman is Working on the Music

Anyone who trounces Danny Elfman needs to really get to know the man before they judge him.

If there's ever a fight, Danny Elfman isn't the instigator. He only has the best in mind for a film. Raimi was the one who was acting stupid and Danny left because of it. Any anyone who thinks Danny got 'bought' back.... flat wrong. Danny Elfman has too much integrity and is too stubborn. If Raimi didn't apoligize (which is what must have happened), then Elfman wouldn't have even thought about returning. If you ever get on Elfman's bad side, he doesn't take you back lightly. This coming from a true fan of Elfman, not just his work.

And once again, for those who write Elfman off as "dark and gothic" due to his constant collaborration with Tim Burton, you're foolish. Trying looking at more of his work beyond the Burton films. He has a rich pallette to work from, and has done MUCH more than dark scores. It's just what he does best.

That said, I've been a fan of Danny's since Oingo Boingo. Glad to see he's back, with the film going darker, Danny is the cherry on top of an already potential-masterpiece. The Symbiote Saga is what I've been dying to see on the screen..... Danny will make it sound as perfect as it will look.

Ok, go out in the street and ask people if they've heard of John Debney, and then ask if they've heard of Danny Elfman.

So you base how great a score is by the popularity of the composer, sheesh?

I am glad that Elfman is back.
I really like Chris Young, too.
I hope we have really dark scores, and maybe some bits from Hellraiser, in this movie.

No. Judge the score by sheer music writing talent. You bash Elfman cuz he uses flutes. The same way that John Williams emphasizes strings, the same way that Elmer Bernstein emphasizes eerie ghost noises(Ghostbusters, Spies Like Us, Wild Wild West), the same way that James Horner uses Irish themes (Glory, Braveheart, Titanic, at least 10 more).

Find some other thing to pick on Elfman about and drop the flute b**ching.

Amen.

Bring Back Boingo!

Elfman and Young working together won't disappoint, even if Elfman has a small part in the music.

Exactly. Visionary and others who decide to hate Elfman don't like the score. That's fine. But bashing him for a quirk that's unique to him? That's just lame. If you don't like the score, fine. But don't attack Elfman. Just because you don't like him when everyone else does doesn't mean you have to bash him, especially since you're not going to get other people to decide to hate Elfman when you do it.

If anything, you should blame Raimi for hiring Elfman.

When it comes to Danny Elfman, I'm of the personal belief that if you hate his work, you must be nuts. Though he's too humble to admit it, Danny's right up there with John Williams, Elmer Bernstien and Alan Silvestri.

I agree 100%

You are aware that Visionary is Danny Elfman, right? ;) He just comes here to mess around. So, we just play along. :woot:

It's not just the damn flutes, it's his music sounding so identical to one another. His music is light, whimsical and flimsy, like the music you'd hear during a Bugs Bunny montage. As if his brain doesn't know that his scoring a different movie or different genre. I was so close to having a Spider-Man movie without him, so damn close, over two years of happiness, and now 5 months to the day...I've got to hear this man's rotten ilk all over again.

Talk about hate. I think other haters aren't this harsh.

First of all, I am a huge Danny Elfman fan. That goes beyond the movies scores he has done too. I am a big Oingo Boingo fan. So my opinion is certainly biased in reference to whether or not he should be involved with the Spider-Man 3 score, which I am happy that he is going to be. But I can take a step back and say that it is an impressive continuity achievement for the Spidey films to keep so many of the same actresses, actors, director, crew, etc. throughout the series. This applies to Elfman as well. So at the very least, you have to tip your hat to that.

Indeed. This is the first time Elfman returns for a third time. He usually only does two films in a series and franchise.

And I know this is a little off topic, but I must say that I was pretty stoked when I saw that Willem Dafoe was back for SM3. I was praying he'd contribute to the film in some form, and after I saw that sneak preview on Thanksgiving I was thrilled.

What's with all the disputes? Who cares if you like Elfman or not? I think we all should agree that Elfman returning is a good thing. Remember Batman Forever?
