I can't wait for Brubaker and Fraction to take over Uncanny, myself. From the sounds of it, it'll get back to the character driven stories that made me like the X-Men in the first place.

I sincerely doubt that. Everything I've read about the direction Brubaker and Fraction are taking sounds unappealing. They're great writers and I'm sure the comics'll be readable, but I'm not interested. As far as the X-Men go, it's all old-school all the time for me for the foreseeable future.

The whole faith thing, plus the artists, plus the fact that there doesn't seem to be any intent to make Cyclops less of an a**hole, plus Brubaker's earlier X-Men stuff, which was easily the least of his work and only average to me in general. It just doesn't sound interesting to me, and if I can save some money, sweet for me.

And when Fraction described how he sees Scott as being Luke to Logan's Han, I didn't see anything wrong with that. How does that make him an a**hole?

Not that specifically; he's already an a**hole. He created a mutant hit-squad and has basically been adopting more and more extreme methods, justifying it all with an ends-justify-the-means idealogy that just doesn't sit well with me. But, to take issue with that line specifically, Scott proved to be a damn fine Han-type character himself in Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. I liked that interpretation a lot, which is probably contributing to my distaste for his portrayal elsewhere.

Fraction said in a WordBalloon interview that the new costumes with the X's over the hearts of all the men represent a shift in the X-Men's foundation from science to faith. Cyclops is no longer pursuing a dream of peaceful coexistence, but rather running on faith that mutantkind will rebound thanks to the mutant messiah and basically doing anything to ensure mutantkind's survival until she comes back. Which, of course, goes back to the a**hole methods.

Oh, you make it sound like they're running a cult now. Taken in the context of what Fraction actually said, it sounds like the next logical step to me. Science has failed them. They can either drown in worry about their race or they can accept that their only option right now is a baby in the hands of an old warhorse. Better to spend the time saving the world from threats and contributing to their community, I say.

And back to Scott, you said you were uninterested in seeing Brubaker and Fraction not doing anything to make Scott less of an a**hole, but made no mention of what they actually plan to do. Did you read or hear something somehere where they said they would be following Scott down the road that Marvel seems to have laid out for him, or something? Because it sounds to me like Scott is getting back to leading the X-Men and less concerned with killing people (unless you read X-Force, which isn't written by either Brubaker or Fraction).

Well, Brubaker contributed to the Scott-as-a**hole thing in Messiah Complex, and I haven't heard anything about him shutting down X-Force, and it seems his concern is ensuring mutantkind's survival at any cost, so it seems logical that he'd continue along the a**hole road that's been laid out for him. It's an assumption, but there's a lot to back it up. Add it to the other stuff that sounds unappealing about Uncanny's new direction and I'm content to just skip it altogether.

I know there are titles that are pretty much blissfully rid of all the crap, but you've gotta admit; Civil War made everything so nihilistic and, yes, bleak. Not to mention MJ.

I'm actually excited bout this new X direction, its the logical next step for the x-men. They've tried Xavier's way for years and years and years, and it just hasnt worked. They're not kids anymore, they're all fully grown up and its time to pursue their own path and try a new method for mutant survival. I like cyclops' new "no tolerance" leadership, as long as he doesnt have X-Force killing everything in sight, I approve. This new change of location should be real interesting. X-Men in California? Sounds exciting to me, New York's too clogged up anyway with just about every other marvel hero.

I love San Francisco. I'm a San Franciscan at heart. Absolutely nothing about the X-Men's move to San Francisco has me excited.

I'm also incredibly confused about the whole "Hey, in NY people hate the freaks, but in SF they're totally welcome! Yay!" approach. It's the kind of thing that doesn't seem so odd at first glance, but the more you look at it the more questionable it is.
