EVERYTHING Black Panther - Part 4

That would be awful.

Agreed, T'Challa's origin story would be skewered pretty bad. Might as well have Ultron come through and kill Uncle Ben and Bruce Wayne's parents too. Come to think of it, wasn't AI involved in the destruction of Krypton?

T'Challa's damn origin story has been changed in pretty much every medium he appeared in. It was Moses who killed T'Chaka in Iron Man, Kleiser in the Ultimate Avengers movie, and M'Baku in the Avengers cartoon.

Crossing fingers for something at Comic Con. I'd accept something meager like Ultron rampaging through Wakanda and then killing the current ruler to set the stage for Panther to appear in a solo movie or Avengers sequel.

Not a fan of that idea. Whoever kills T'Chaka should be a BP villain or at least it should happen in the solo movie.

My vote is for Klaw.

I think in a potential trilogy the villains should be 1) Klaw 2)M'Baku/Man Ape 3)Killomonger

I'd like that. Mine's a bit more condensed:

1) Klaw & M'Baku 2) Killmonger and Malice 3) Moses Magnum and Achebe

As stated, it's more about T'Challa not confronting his father's killer. It'd be similar if we had Darkseid destroy Krypton and then get defeated by Batman before we ever meet Superman. It's just a bad story for the character.

I think M'Baku and Achebe would work as villains who get set up for a sequel similar to Crossbones.

... God I hope-- and I believe a solo BP isn't apart of Phase Three anyway, but I hope that when/if it isn't announced (at SDCC) that people don't lose themselves. I find it strange seeing people say Marvel doesn't have the balls to do BP or that they don't have faith when that's all we've seen from them so far, and again but on a whole other level on August 1st.

I think Black Panther has a realistic chance of being in Phase Three. Other than sequels the movies already made I think the options marvel are looking at are Black Panther, Captain/Ms Marvel, Nova and the Inhumans.

Black Panther and the Inhumans have already been confirmed as something Marvel have been looking to adapt.

If Nathan Fillion is really Richard Rider then I think the chances for BP go down. He has folklore like status with fans since his firefly days. I think it would leap frog others in development if he's onboard.

Both Gunn and Nathan Fillion himself have said he isn't playing Richard Rider. Fillion is too old and would be too busy to star as Nova in a film anyway.

Marvel is probably going to wait and see how GoTG does before announcing any more cosmic movies. If GoTG is a success then I'm sure more cosmic hero films will follow with Nova and Captain Marvel/Ms Marvel being top of the list.

That July 2017 slot is going to GOTG 2, Hulk or Panther. If they don't announce it at SDCC (they haven't even booked a second film date in that year) then it'd be more than obvious that they're waiting to see how GOTG performs. Sucks that sequels take up space. If BP isn't in Phase Three, hopefully he's the second film in 2018-- which will also launch Phase Four.

I'm not worried. Black Panther is one of those characters you can guarantee Marvel will adapt. It is a matter of when rather than if.

What would you guys think about this choice?

Well, he is a great actor and I think it has been established here that that is the first and foremost concern. Maybe a little older than most would like, so perhaps casting him as the elder Panther would make more sense...

We have a winner. Agreed 100%. If not Phase 3, definitely Phase 4.

I'm going to assume that Marvel isn't going to a three films per year schedule as early as Phase 3. If that's the case, I think the Phase 3 lineup is pretty much set. The GOTG/Hulk crossover makes too much sense in my mind for it not to be true. Which would make Phase 3...

2015: Ant-Man
2016: Cap 3, Dr. Strange
2017: Thor 3, GOTG/Hulk crossover
2018: Avengers 3

If I were a betting man, I'd bet on Black Panther in summer/fall 2018, immediately following Avengers 3. And if not, almost certainly in 2019.

I would actually like to see someone a bit younger in the role though. I haven't decided who yet though

Chiwetel is younger than Renner and Downey when they were cast in their roles. Marvel could always hire a younger actor to play T'challa in flashbacks like they did with Thor.

Ejiofor is pretty damn perfect for the role. Not only does he look like the character, he's actually of African heritage and he's played layered African leaders/politicians multiple times in film and on stage, AND he's a martial artist. Just watch Endgame or Redbelt and tell me the guy wasn't born to be T"Challa.

This. The argument that I see most against casting Ejiofor is his age. But the man just turned 37 earlier this month...younger than Downey, Renner, Ruffalo, Cheadle and Rudd. As you said, they could cast someone younger for flashbacks, and personally, I like the idea of a more mature T'Challa. Someone who is a contemporary of Stark, Banner, etc., not a younger, less experienced guy.

I'll keep saying it: Ejiofor would be ideal for the role...son of Nigerian parents, Shakesperean level actor, and he exudes the dignity that the king of Wakanda should have.

I've always thought he'd be could a good fit in a superhero movie as a lead actor since I saw Serenity. That's the first movie I saw him in that made me take notice.

i think it's likely Ejiofor will be cast, he is the clear choice, and he has connections to Whedon. I'd put my money on him being Tchalla

i think race may play a part in releasing a solo black panther movie.

is the general audience ready to go watch a black super hero movie? i think they might if the star is will smith since he has megastar appeal. but otherwise, i would not be surprised if it's one of the lower grossing marvel films. i think for it to really happen, he would have to make an appearance in another franchise first and make a major impact before getting a solo film.

If that's the way they have to do it... intro Chiwetel Ejiofor as Black Panther in Cap 3

Chiwetel Ejiofor would be a great T'Challa.

I made a recommendation for Black Panther to show up in CAP 3 on the CAP 3 main thread recently. Not because I don't believe he could not pull his own Box Office weight, but because I simply don't want to wait for a Phase 4 or later intro for a great hero and there is really good comic history back story between T'Challa and Steve that could be the backbone for a good MCU script.
