EVERYTHING Black Panther - Part 4

It's really too bad Peter Mensah already had an MCU role. I'd love him as S'yan.

I'm still favor a young T'Challa, like Boyega, with Chiwetel as T'Chaka with a Jor-El sized part, where he clearly kicks butt in the opening sequence before dying heroically and he appears to be an awesome awesome guy in Flashbacks. I'd be pretty excited about Ejiofor as BP, and I think that'd serve the character best, but I think the movie and a story of legacy would be served best by Ejiofor as the established one and not the newbie. Still, it can be done well with some very clever flashbacks, that's just not my preference.

I think it'd be really interesting to fill out Black Panther with Hawkeye and Hulk as supporting characters following A2, assuming BP is in before A3 (it'd better be!). Defeating them would definitely have the effect of proving he can defend Wakanda and having Banner around to show T'Challa's mental prowess and unique metaphysical take on things and Hawkeye to show his martial prowess and unique acrobatic fighting style could be really really cool. Together they could play the same role as the FF did in Black Panther's first appearance in FF #52. Hell, you could bring the Twins along. Defeating QS could show his uber tactical skills and SW his metaphysical and social savvy. With them along, you wouldn't need to worry about having Everett Ross there to play Piper to BP's everyone else on Orange is the New Black.

I think the conversation about female lead is really interesting too. No one seems to like Monica Lynne, and the Dora Milaje seem unfair to have as actual love interests, even though they really should be. Too easy?

If BP is gonna take on the Avengers it has to be the big three Thor, Cap, and Iron Man. BP suit is made of vibranium and that held up pretty well against Thor's hammer. So Stark really doesn't have a chance but it would be fun to watch.

Jacky Ido from Taxi Brooklyn, Inglourious Basterds and Lockout could make a good Erik Killmonger.

If we don't get a Black Panther announcement Saturday, there is no justice in the world.

This, although I would be fine if they announced Carol Danvers instead of him. I think most would be okay if Carol is announced instead of BP.

If they announce neither, well then Feige's got some explaining to do.

I'm not getting my hopes up at all. We've done this song and dance before, so I wouldn't put it past them to not announce anything for BP. If they do I'll be thrilled like anyone else, but at this point it's best to lower the expectations.

BTW, and I'm sure this has been discussed before, but if Thor is a fantasy movie, Cap1 is a historical war movie, Cap2 is a political thriller, and Ant-Man is a heist film, what would you make Black Panther's selling point if you were making the movie?

Yep. I'll be genuinely shocked if any significant Panther news (beyond the usual "some day" b.s.) comes out of it.

romantic comedy?

I think making it a spy movie would be good.

Apparently the first Iron Man was supposed to be a spy movie. I didnt really get that vibe. X-Men First Class was a good spy movie for a majority of the movie.

But yeah making BP a globetrotting, spy adventure would be good. I think keeping it completely in Wakanda could hurt the first film

Now's as good a time as any to find out there's no justice in the world, lol.

You basically have an adventure film to take advantage of the setting, and you can spin it several unique ways from there, four of my favs:

A) Martial arts revenge epic, with tech mixing with the mysticism.
B) Coming of Age Adventure/Family Drama for a young T'Challa only
C) Faux-Documentary/found footage action-adventure
D) Globetrotting espionage mystery psychological thriller

Black Panther could be a revenge thriller if T'Challa is tracking down his fathers killer.

With the caveat that I'm not very familiar with BP...

You could do a sort of reverse safari-genre. Instead of a travelogue of a wealthy British man visiting "primitive" Africa, invert it, with the royal T'Challa traveling to the "primitive" western concrete jungles. If the stereotypical safari-ist is a big-game hunter, make T'Challa a sort of hunter for his father's murderer. (Also, under this idea, you'd still probably want to have most of the 1st and 3rd acts to be in Wakanda).

Interesting... if he was hunting for a wife it'd be "Coming to America." Which, incidentally, is actually a pretty good Black Panther movie.

A revenge thriller could be fun too. Especially if perhaps the same killer kills S'yan, re-opening the 'trail' so to speak.

I think BP would be better as a western. Like when some corporate suit is trying to take the peaceful peoples land for a railroad, oil or gold mine. Forcing the leader of the town to go head to head against the corporate types.

Earlier in this thread, we talked about how the portrayal of Wakanda in the movie should be like Japan, so which era of Japan should we refer to when we talk Wakanda? Modern day Japan or Japan pre-WW II?

I wouldn't say Japan more like China when Marco Pollo landed on their shores. They were more advanced in many ways with silks, dyes and of course gunpowder.

say whaaaaaat?!
that is awesome if it works out (schedules could be a problem)
Disney/Marvel doesn't usually like actors tweeting this sort of stuff, but as their new SW golden boy, maybe they go more lenient with him

I've thought a Black Widow solo film would be the obvious candidate for a spy film (and it would practically sell itself). I like your suggestions (along with DrCosmic's and others). I think there's a tough balancing act when it comes to Wakanda. Wakanda adds something unique to the story. At the same time, it isn't all that relatable to a western audience. That being said, I'm trying to watch the cartoon Black Panther series. I'm kind of getting the impression that lack of relatability is one of its strengths - pulling you away from your expectations and preconceived ideas.

I get what you're saying in the second sentence, but I'm not sure I would associate that with "western" per se -- maybe Eco-thriller" is closer to what you're looking for?

For some strange reason, the first example that comes to my mind is On Deadly Ground with Steven Seagal vs an oil company. Except I don't actually remember anything about that film, except "Steven Seagal vs an oil company", which was enough to find the title on IMDB. (Other possible examples that come to mind, but which I barely even remember seeing, are Erin Brokovich and Pelican Brief -- apparently eco-thrillers were a big thing on TV when I was growing up in the 90's).

What Black Panther cartoon is there?

The westerns I was thinking of were the movie Posse staring Mario Van Peoples, Zorro and Disney Lone Ranger. In nearly every western I've seen there is always some evil railroad company. That happens to have plans for a train track through that particular town.
