Nothing personal, but that's really sad. If your brother or sister was so heavily into drugs that you saw their life going down the tubes, would you just stand back and do nothing? Would you just hang out with them and think "Well, I just have to hang with them thru the bad as well as the good, he'll come around eventually." No, you would WHATEVER YOU COULD to get them back on track.
I know we're talking about a fictional character here, but, look... I think the people here that are arguing the most about Spidey's current direction are the fans that have been around for more than just the last 5-10 years. We're the fans that have been around for much longer. This character is so near and dear to our hearts that we just can't stand to watch him written into oblivion. Spider-man is dying. Peter Parker is dying.
The ones responsible for this are the writers... and WORSE, the "fans" who complain yet SUPPORT this by buying the books. Buying the books you hate is supporting their eventual demise.
Over 40 years this character has been around, That's longer than 90% of the fans on this board. And NEVER in those 40 years has Peter Parker's character changed. NEVER. Until the last few years. No matter what has happened around him, he has always had CONSISTENCY. THAT is the reason why people love him so much.
Now he's a different character. His actions are not consistent with the character. And the most frustrating thing is, the writers aren't doing it for a good story, they are doing it for the sake of change and for MONEY.
When is the last time we've had an excellent Spidey story in a stand alone issue? Too long for me to remember. Every arc has to be part of some mege event now. It's become the new millenium's version of 90's varient covers all over again. It's pathetic.
Marvel won't get one thin dime from me until the current writing team is GONE. Until then, I'll read about what's going on with Spidey at spider-fan.org.
