Sometimes I feel like X-Men First Class is the closest we'll ever get to a proper Fantastic Four movie.

That is much more in line with the tone for sure. But hey, at least we have the incredibles!

Eh, I'm not attached to these characters. I was expecting really awful clips, it kinda surprised me. I will see this.

The Incredibles. Of course, people HATED the kid friendly appeal of the film, as well as the "comic booky" tone, the colorful costumes, the family dynamic and the joy the youngsters displayed while showing off their superpowers.

Im noticing a trend... those who arnt familiar, or never really enjoyed or cared for the characters are unfortunately eating this up.
My only worry.

Hopefully this wont pull a T4 or TMNT, though thankfully F4 does not have the nostalgia crowd backing this film like those 2 other films had.

I do think it's kind of funny when people say that this trailer was derivative and unoriginal because of Interstellar, but then just want another Incredibles.

^ The success or failure of this movie is not going to ride on whether or not the "comic-book fan" community as a whole has any interest in seeing it, because it's not being made for that community; it's being made for general audiences, and it is general audiences that will determine its success or failure, as they rightfully should.

It's also not fair - and rather condescending besides - to assume or imply that the only way anybody could appreciate this film and this teaser trailer is if they're not familiar with or never really enjoyed or cared about the Fantastic Four as a property.

Who wouldn't want a live action Incredibles?

I'd take my 5 year old kid to TDK.

My dad took me to see Terminator 2 when I was 6 and it didn't do any harm.

Really? Id honestly think tdk would have to be incredibly boring for a 5 year old. Its all drama and complex themes rather than superhero action

That being said, different strokes for different folks some kids can handle that stuff some cant. I know i wouldnt take my kids to those kinds of movies until i knew they could handle it. I personally feel like pg-13 and R are not appropriate for a 5 year old

Adults have weird views on what kids will respond to a lot of the time. When I was a kid, I was watching Superman and Star Wars, but also Terminator, ROboCop, Predator etc. I had no interest at all in Disney cartoons, Toy Story or Lion King etc. Oddly, it's only as an adult I've started to appreciate those ones. Which, if you go by a lot of people in this thread, would be somehow unacceptable.

My nephew, who in 2012 was about 6, hated Avengers for being too 'kiddy', but loves the whole TDKT (loves the first iron man movie, though).

Different strokes.

To be quite frank... the F4 inspired the incredibles... not the other way around. The F4 are root source of the whole superhero team family..

That, and we'vet never seten anything like that in live action. Nor have we seen any of the amazing f4 villains properly brought to the screen

It might not be your F4 film you were hoping for, but it looks like to a cool looking scifi. Lawd. I know that doesn't sound good to hear. :oldrazz:

We finally got a sequel to Chronicle! Where all the Chronicle fans?! Oh lawd.

I would too and I saw T2 when I was 7 myself. I'd consider us the exception. Those aren't movies for kids.

I'm sure everyone has movies they were fans of as kids that weren't built around kiddie appeal. There's that. And this is a 90-100 million movie aimed at the usual superhero crowd, likely loaded with funky powers, pretty visuals and action scenes. There's that too. I can't imagine many 10-year-olds complaining about no blue on the costumes or fidelity to comics they've probably never even touched. Not if the film as it is works for them. "They're not making this for me" =/= "This will appeal to no one".

Me thinks the pot is calling the kettle black on condescension. .. mr savior of the artistic freedoms.and the constant attempts to invalidate the fact many people don't want certain things changed

I do think the fanboys and the geek pundits are going a bit overboard on how great the teaser due to the super low expectations people had for the teaser to begin with. I think the teaser does what it needs to do in that it shows us very little and keeps us guessing. I would agree that the teaser hasn't shown the type of images we haven't seen in other films, so in that sense I can get where the derivative critique comes from.

That said, if they're approaching F4 more in the vein of a Sci-Fi/ Philosophical tale grounded in 21st century reality much like Interstellar , then I'm fine with it. I don't mind derivative as long as the story is good.

Thats just it. Id accept and respect this film more if it were an actual original idea and not a fox mandate of letting the property and name sell the film over quality and quantity in a rights grab...

Also alot of kids are in such a hurry to grow up, i get it if youre the baby with older siblings i guess. But i was a very happy and content child. Mature for my age. I had no hurry to grow up, no rebellious phase, my parents were relaxed and trusting, i had no desire to break the rules. Just found that whole mentality immature.

I'm your Sam...

@spideyboy: To paraphrase a political saying, "I might not always agree with the decisions that are made in adapting something, but I will defend to the death the ability for the individual(s) doing said adapting to make said decisions".

My biggest concern was that this was going to be too much like Chronicle, since I disliked that movie. I didn't get that feeling at all with the trailer. I was relieved..

I'm so glad the reactions across the internet don't reflect this forum.

And good for that.
There's a quite clear reason 99% of book adaptations that have never had their story told on film before (or told properly) dont get adapted into a left field twist that barely resembles its source material.

And why 99% of film adaptations that have extreme creative licenses taken have had their stories told to death. And have countless films and other adaptations under their belts.

The reason i bring up Shakespeare , Poe, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, Snow White, Peter Pan, etc... is because those are the most comparable to comic books. They're literature that garnished a massive following and fanbase. They've been adapted and retold countless times in many forms of media. This is why they are now allowed to be altered... and give us such awesome work as FreeWay, the lion king, 10 things i hate about you, etc...

You dont go and make a live adaptation of lotr in space before you have a correct portrayal of tolkens version first... you dont make "maleficent" before sleeping beauty....

Lol where are you looking? Facebook and youtube is riddled with bile even the actors fan pages... and its alot more bile than spewed here.

Do you have a rose tinted computer screen?

Its getting mediocre or "meh" mentality at best.

Its hardly getting a buzz or excitment compared to AOU or Star Wars... its not even getting as much as a buzz as jurassic world got... and that was a very split opinion
