Fant4stic: Reborn! - - Part 21

Just saw the trailer commentary. That felt either very forced or awkward.

So you think Trank telling us about Stan Lee's approval of the broad outline of FFINO was forced? That it was a pathetic attempt to covince longtime fans that his version, which bears no resemblance to the classic source material, has creator approval?

Yes. Its a cheap ploy. Because everyone knows, stan "approves" everything. Even the now panned films we all now think are crap.

Did you notice Josh Trank glancing sidelong at Kinberg for approval through the entire thing? It reminded me of a parent sitting next to their child while they are having to explain to their neighbor that he was the one who vandalized their mailbox.

"Can I post a smarmy dog pic now, Simon?"

"No."

"Now?"

"Shut. Up."

What's the story behind this dog pic that keeps being brought up? lol

Different strokes for different folks, man. I couldn't waste any time with things I hated. More power to ya. Lawd.

Well, im passionate about the fantastic four. . And i want the rights reverted and a proper film done. So, yeah... its not time wasted to me ;) but thanks

Oh, I was only referring to this movie.

I find myself being more sympathetic just Now. I can't imagine how I would react if they drastically changed Batman. I will quit poking the bear. :oldrazz:

Why do people keep saying this guy is talented, exactly?

DOFP
Screenplay by
Simon Kinberg

Story by
Jane Goldman
Simon Kinberg
Matthew Vaughn

I guess if you cowrite an apparently good movie with two other people that absolves you of any previous transgressions.

Rather interesting.

Vaughn and Goldman didn't write any of DOFP. Vaughn can stretch the truth as much as he wants, but it's not like X3 where that was the story he came up with before he bailed. Story by doesn't mean anything. Contractual credit, WGA arbitration, or in this case the bare bones of the time travel story.

Star Wars Rebels is pretty good too.

I'm not saying Kinberg is absolved, but he's better now than what we all saw during the Tom Rothman Era.

My interest in this peaked out at about 8 out of 10 when we knew Trank was directing and Miller and Stenz were working on the script. The reason it didn't go to 9 is it was still Fox and I had a feeling they weren't going to push all their chips into the center of the table.

When we heard they were getting no-names to work on the script, I started falling down to 7, when we heard the cast (I won't say 'when Fox announced cast' because, well you all know), my interest plunged to 4 or 5. Since then, the news has been all bad and I was probably at about 2 by the time the Trank interview and trailer came out. Just getting that something brought me back up to about 3 - not because I particularly liked anything I saw or heard, but at least I was getting something.

So now I'm hanging at around 3. Because it's Fantastic Four, I'm interested and any truly good news/images etc. that we get could bounce me up, but at the moment, the studio is giving me nothing to get me interested.

Unless the next trailer looks great or Trank provides some compelling commentary, I probably won't bother going. Not because of any real protest, but the movie just doesn't look very interesting to me at this point.

This is tragic.

You're getting a serious FF movie after two moronic ones ten years ago with better actors, a better director and written by Days of Future Past's Simon Kinberg. You're getting Negative Zone exploration, real character development and above all an approach to the FF that feels passionate. I'm reading through your posts and you constantly single yourself out as a true FF fan. Why the commitment to negativity? How is that benefiting you? I refuse to believe you didn't like anything in that trailer. I love the FF and I loved the trailer. We're getting the Nolan treatment for the FF. That was a pipe dream a decade ago.

I see many FF fans in this forum that are sadly more committed to Disney than to the FF. Disney isn't doing FF movies. Its ridiculous to deny yourselves a great FF movie over nonsense like the studio making it. I wouldn't care if the BBC produced this movie or Annapurna or WWE Films. Who makes these movies shouldn't be a factor, only that the characters are being treated seriously.

He did Star Wars Rebels and Sherlock Holmes. The man has drastically improved.

Man, what would Willie do without Mr. 25 Posts here coming along to set him straight?

"I refuse to believe you didn't like any of this."

Unbelievable.

I've skimmed through your posts too. Nothing but hate for this movie and condescending posts towards those of us who like it. I believe the Internet jargon for that is "trolling".

Willy seems conflicted. You're just here to bash this movie.

Because they want to make themselves feel better about this film, and distract from they blatant and abundant warning signs.

You on the trailer thread:

This heap won't replace the real FF any more than the crappy Catwoman movie replaced the real Catwoman.

It's a delay, nothing more. An obstacle. A roadbump on the way to a proper FF film at their proper home.

Nonsense. Complete nonsense. Trolling at its most annoying and it just ruins every thread where actual discussion of this movie could take place.

I think I speak for all of us FF fans (at least those of us who are extremely passionate and/or long time fans) when I say we aren't committed to Marvel Studios (or what we believe they can do with FF) or the idea of the rights reverting..... we're committed to the Fantastic Four.

And while it may be hard for you to understand, many (if not most of us) don't want a UFF inspired, gritty, Nolan-esuqe take on the Fantastic Four. We just want a straight forward, true to the source translation of the characters we love. And we choose not to stay silent when its very clear we aren't getting that.

Pretty sure everyone prefers 616 but we're not getting 616. Does that mean you have to boycott UFF? UFF is still FF and its good stuff. This scenario happens all the time with comic book movies. You always have a version/run of the characters you prefer but they end up using a different one. At the end of the day if they nailed that other version - you still have a great movie based on a character you love in your hands.

Most of the people I know who read Batman loved the Nolan films but are ten times more excited for Snyder's take because it isn't as grounded.

And speaking of Nolan...... I feel he and his Batfilms are the perfect analogy for this situation.

Now, Christopher Nolan made great films in Batman Begins, TDK, and TDKR. It's undeniable how great that trilogy is overall (despite a few missteps).

That said...... while those are great films (TDK is one of the all time greats), they are far from the best Batman films we can get.

Like Josh Trank with this, Nolan wanted to craft his own specific vision (taking the character and concept and crafting something brand new). And while he succeeded in making great films, he didn't truly honor, nor represent those characters and stories as they were in the comics.

Did he capture the spirit of the source material? Yes. In many cases, but it only goes so far.

The point is that there's nothing wrong with an alternate take on these comic characters (particularly the F4). However, it would never, and could never, truly be representative of the characters and stories from the comics. And while this film could be good as alternate take, there's just as many signs that it won't be, if not more, than there are that it will.

What ruins discussion is people like you who can't stop complaining about everyone else on the forum. I haven't broken any rules, and you are not the arbiter of them anyway.

You have an ignore button just like everyone else. I suggest you learn to use it if you find people expressing dislike of this film so intolerable.

What signs? The junk articles about the production being troubled? The release dates being pushed? Trank trashing his house? Lol

All I see is good signs:

1. You have a great director that made a great sci-fi superhero movie on the cheap as his directorial debut

2. The writer responsible for the awesome Days of Future Past

3. An awesome cast

4. An emphasis on character plus a grounded, serious sci-fi tone

5. A trailer that is the complete opposite of Tim Story's suckfest FF movies

All good signs from where I'm sitting.
