And speaking of Nolan...... I feel he and his Batfilms are the perfect analogy for this situation.
Now, Christopher Nolan made great films in Batman Begins, TDK, and TDKR. It's undeniable how great that trilogy is overall (despite a few missteps).
That said...... while those are great films (TDK is one of the all time greats), they are far from the best Batman films we can get.
Like Josh Trank with this, Nolan wanted to craft his own specific vision (taking the character and concept and crafting something brand new). And while he succeeded in making great films, he didn't truly honor, nor represent those characters and stories as they were in the comics.
Did he capture the spirit of the source material? Yes. In many cases, but it only goes so far.
The point is that there's nothing wrong with an alternate take on these comic characters (particularly the F4). However, it would never, and could never, truly be the characters and stories from the comics. And while this film could be good as alternate take, there's just as many signs that it won't be, if not more, than there are that it will.
