I can attest that Willie Lumpkin has probably been the most fair and level headed poster in this section. Period.

Everything he critiques, praises or questions is backed up by a detailed and clear headed explanation.

It is true.

I have given this film nothing but scorn but after the trailer it kind of drew me in. It was just way better than I expected. I don't begrudge anyone for not liking what they saw, seeing as the iconography (for the exception of that last shot) is essentially non existent.

The trailer personally really worked for me. It's selling me on a good movie whether or not it will be a good F4 movie is what is spurring much of these heated debates. I'll admit that not having much invested in these characters probably goes a long way in helping appreciate what I saw in the trailer.

Which worked for me in 2002. Not so much in 2015, not after seeing firsthand that you can be BOTH faithful to the source material AND tell original stories without being shackled by what's come before. It's not one or the other.

Marvel Studios has figured out the formula to this gray area that exists between those extremes, they're using it to tell superhero stories that please fanboy AND general audiences, and that's why Kevin Feige was recently able to buy his own private orbital space station.

With all that said, I'm still not giving this movie a single dime. I am curious what the end result will be, I will see it eventually, and there is the possibility that having really liked Chronicle I will find something to like here, despite the huge number of issues I have with the overall production.

But I won't guarantee that, and this teaser did nothing to assuage my concerns.

Can someone please explain to me why Days of Future Past is now a feather in Kinberg's cap?

To be honest scripts are rewritten so many times these days I don't even know how people can critique a specific writer. How do you know who's responsible for what? or is it one of those things where the guy who gets all the credit also shoulders all the blame if something goes wrong?

So I would imagine Ben being Reed's protective big brother in their college (or schools days as the case may be here) will be off the table too.

Hard to picture a wee Bell fending off a hoard of bullies about to give Reed a swirlie...

I can buy Jamie as a mean, wiry little bastard cut out of rock. You don't want to mess with a guy like that. Would work fine if this were called Chronicle 2.

But that's really not Ben Grimm. Not even Ultimate Ben.

I totally understand where you are coming from...but it's weird whether I want to feel the same way as OM or not, I kinda do. It is what it is at this point. I may be dead when Marvel gets the rights back, but right now, well it sucks, but I'm going to try and make the best out of it.

Fox still has the opportunity to try and wow me before release. I doubt they can (both because this still stinks of a desperate rights retention ploy, and they've done little to convince me that they don't hold fanboys in outright contempt) but they can try.

See? I'm not all made out of hatred and venom. I can be conflicted!

Nah man.....At least I won't. That's where these Hollywood studios get that old saying that "fans will see this **** anyways" comes from. And they start lowering standards for these films for the dollar bills. And I understand the business but they don't get my money unless the trailer stokes my interests or at least draws enough of my curiosity. This one did neither. You right about one thing, I will likely see it but on Red Box and if WOM is bad about it then HBO will be my ticket.

Heck, I passed on The Wolverine for those reasons and I saw every Xmen film at the theatre except that one. The Trailers did nothing for me.

I actually like UFF's origin. The Four visiting the Negative Zone and getting powers by having their matter exchanged between universes is a very nice update of going to space 'to beat the commies' and getting hit by cosmic rays, and it pays respect to the source material.

Here's the thing, 10 years ago, I knew of the F4 from a few comics as a kid, a couple...haha and the animated series reruns. That was it, and I liked it ok, but I hated Sue's "Damsel in distress" crap...so I didn't venture into the comic book.

Then I saw that a live action movie was coming, and thought that would be interesting, and I love Michael Chiklis, and I thought that since they choose Alba that Sue was probably going to be "kick ass".... joined at IMDB and found it to be very irritating, so I joined here, many gave me advice on what to read, and so I did, and became a fan of the MK issues. Then it got cancelled and I gave UFF a try, didn't exactly keep me interested. Got to know the characters really well through different posters here and well....here we are.

So, I'm pretty much coming into this from both worlds.

Man, I wish I had this attitude before the first ASM came out. I've learned so much now, but I should have stuck with my gut instincts from the beginning, because a lot of what I'm hearing from you guys reminds me when they decided to reboot Spider-Man. I was more afraid of just being negative and being wrong and instead just looked for optimism. Now I will never blame myself for wanting a good Spider-Man film, (crazy right?) but I should have seen through the ********. Some of its hindsight, others not so much. And even worse, I decided to give ASM2 a chance. What you learn. ASM2 was an even greater learning experience.

Now the difference between me being a Spider-Man fan and being a FF like you guys is that I already have two great Spider-Man films I can go back to. You guys don't have a thing, and for that I don't blame you for being angry. I'm glad you don't let others tell you what to think when you're reasons are valid in the first place. Movies are expensive these days and I can't imagine all of us have the money to be going to the movies on a whim even if it's our favorite superhero now. And you would like to, but making good movies is out of our control. It's just how things have changed too. We're in a market where we have enough options of comic book films to choose what we see and spend our money on. But if something like this is looking bad, especially when it failed three times before, why the hell should you even give it a chance? It ain't your fault, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Three is a pattern, and you won't be fools again to think it will be any different. It's perfectly reasonable.

SM3 was my very first HARD learning experience when it comes to anticipating a film too much. It's still my greatest lesson. Yet I have still learned many times along the way over the years.

Honestly, you never now. It can be good. But these days, if someone thinks it will be **** and choose not to see it, I can't blame them. And they shouldn't be called a hater because of it or wanting to see something fail. It's because they care so much, however bad or looks, yeah, they're gonna have the loudest opinion, and FF fans have earned that right to voice their dissatisfaction with something more than anybody here. They've been burned three times. And a fourth? **** it. You're not gonna fool me a ****ing fourth time. Because then that's on you. No way someone with principles is gonna let that happen. If they are making an ASM3, I won't see it. I have no love for him at Sony anymore. That franchise is dead to me. I don't care if they want to fix it, they lost a fan already.

I'm a very open minded guy, but you know what? When it comes to these now, it's become easier to see the writing on the wall. Again, can it still be good? Sure, but you won't know because you lost somebody even before the movie came out. That is a defeat. And if it's the fans, that's even more of a defeat. The one audience you don't want to alienate is the fans. Sure they make up just a fraction of a fraction of the grosses, but it's bad when you have a Fantastic Four film and the people who don't like what they see are Fantastic Four fans. That says something.

I'm irritated of the dismissive attitude around here and these things just being shrugged off. They shouldn't be at all. Now not everybody here who is against the movie has been intelligent or civil about it, but these things the rational ones are saying make valid points and are worth being talked about.

Amen, my frozen friend. Imagine the Torch popping up in a Spidey movie, or the inevitable Thing vs Hulk throwdown. Or Doom or Galactus being the big bad of an entire phase of MS films. Sweet Christmas!

Raimi nailed a lot of things. Like just making a good Spider-Man movie about Peter Parker and the journey of a hero.

But I'm getting off topic, this Fantastic Four looks great and I will spend my money because they haven't failed me before so why shouldn't I trust them by this point?

You know what this situation reminds me of? Martin Campbell. At the offset, it seemed like the guy who directed The Mask of Zorro, Goldeneye, and Casino Royale was a great pick for a superhero film. Great blockbusters that focused on characters as much of the action while also popularizing their respective characters again. Yet look what happened.

And Trank only has one movie under his belt, so yeah, he made one great movie. That doesn't prove he's a great filmmaker. I'd say give at least three movies to tell us that. He's very unproven. Or like Martin, he's better suited for what's in his wheelhouse.
