I like to call them the X-4. I think this approach works especially if they make that crossover, otherwise it could be a missed opportunity.

I noticed that someone asked Tom Brevoort on his Formspring what he thought of the recurring crossover rumours, and his answer is pretty much in line with what many of us think.

Fox every 4 or 5 months always seems to make some noises about crossover between X-Men and FF. Can they even do that without Marvel working out terms with them? It seems like it's 2 separate packages, each with separate terms, how could they decide on their own how that would work legally? Has Marvel already worked such a thing out with them?
Depends entirely on what the contracts say. But my guess is that they couldn’t do it without Marvel’s consent. Beyond that, not my area, nothing I can tell you.

With the 'Keep Hope Alive' thread shut down, I wonder if I'm the only one that wonders if the use of the hash marks instead of the number '4' was intentionally done to allow the movie to be re-branded as something else if a deal does get made.

CGI Thing can be re-touched into something else and Doom...already is...something else...most likely.

There has to be a reason and I still have hope.

Yes, I think you probably are.:cwink:

Don't shoot the messenger, but I'd put something like 10:1 odds this will get a sequel for three basic reasons:

1. The budget is low.
2. Despite what many here seem to believe, the FF is still a big, well known, well liked name and there are a lot of people who want to see a Fantastic Four film.
3. There's no such thing as bad publicity.

It doesn't matter if the film is good or bad. It doesn't matter if it features anything that really resembles the FF or not.

Enough people will show up on the first weekend of this film, almost guaranteed, to cover Fox's minimal investment in production and marketing (because of points 2 and 3, Fox won't need to spend as much on marketing as the do for most films).

I think people are going to have to accept that not only is this film happening but we will probably get a sequel.

I have suspected for a while that Fox knows they can't do it without Marvel's consent, but they believe (realistically or not) that once they start making FF films, Marvel will grant them permission.

With their current strategy they seem to be trying to keep the idea in the GA's head that even if they aren't shown to be all in the same universe they might be (but they just haven't gotten round to showing it). The recurring rumours of a crossover, even them getting Sony to put their DOFP trailer in the ASM2 credits all keep the GA half thinking that they all might be connected even if Fox haven't directly shown it.

Frankly I really doubt the the right contracts do contain clauses on crossovers, back then it just wasn't something studios were thinking about so I can't see them wasting time and money on lawyers to negotiate for things they had no interest. And lets not forget that recent news has confirmed that Fox didn't get the TV rights either and I would imagine that that would have been something that was far easier to negotiate than crossing over two different rights contracts.

But of course. For no other reason but that would Fox cancel plans for a Cinematic Universe. Especially when every other CBM producing studio is crafting one.

Marvel would never grant that permission. And if on the very off chance they did, they'd have to be getting something major in return.

The Xmen clip with Spider-Man was because Marc Webb was suppose to direct at Fox but had to delay to make ASM2. Or something like that

Well one thing we have to keep in mind is that Marvel does make money on these films, so if Fox convinces them they're going to continue to make films one way or another, it would be in Marvel's financial interest for those films to be as profitable as possible.

And here's a possibility that I don't like but many around here would: Fox could trade Galactus and Silver Surfer back to Marvel for permission to crossover.

Fox held Webb's contract hostage until Sony agreed to add that preview would be more accurate. :o

Webb's contract with Fox still owed them one more film after 100 Days of Summer, Sony however wanted to fast track ASM2. The only way that Fox would let Webb out of the contract to make the film was if Sony put the DOFP trailer into ASM2.

Kinberg is keeping busy with mutant superteams: He also wrote the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. The film’s mysterious first teaser arrived early this week, breaking records as the most-watched trailer in 20th Century Fox’s history, beating out the previous record-holder: Days of Future Past. Kinberg is quick to stress how FF is different from the typical superhero movie.

“Part of what’s cool about the Fantastic Four comics is that there’s an emphasis on the science of science fiction,” says Kinberg. “And we treat what would normally be considered a superpower as a trauma. They don’t just go up a roof, jump off, and start swinging through the city. It’s the opposite. What would happen if your body transformed, and you didn’t have control over it?”

Rumors persist that the Fantastic Four franchise will ultimately intersect with X-Men—both franchises come from 20th Century Fox. But that wasn’t the concept of this first film. “The reboot of FanFour really needed to work in and of itself,” he says. “We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie.” Still, the opportunity for a crossover is there. “If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could,” says the writer. “There’s a lot of precedent from the comics.”

And although the trailer only hinted at the presence of iconic baddie Doctor Doom, Kinberg makes it clear that he’s as central to the film as the titular heroes. “He has aspirations and struggles that are a little bit more classically tragic than the other characters,” he explains. “As much as it’s an origin story of our heroes, it also tracks how someone can become a villain.”

Um... what records did the trailer break? It didnt perform at all like most of the bigger trailers..jpw, aou, sw, even ted2

Hope for The rights reverting is dead, hence the thread closure

This is the only guaranteed Fantastic Four movie for the next decade. Best you can hope for is that it's a success we get more if not then we wait a long while

There's the slight ever so slight option they could trade the rights to Marvel for something but I doubt Marvel would sell or trade anything away ever again

Its so not dead. We just have a set back is all. Hope is very much alive

I still dislike trading Galactus and Surfer. Marvel wanted them back so they could be part of Infinity War. The main problem here is that Galactus works best when his first appearance is as a Lovecraftian planet eating abomination who's now up for eating Earth. We weren't going to get that. That and Marvel wanted the Badoon.

What Fox should trade would be the rights to Star Wars Episode IV, the merch rights for both the X-Men and Fantastic Four, the rights to the Badoon and Brood and an agreement to share the Shi'Ar in exchange for being able to cross over the X-Men and Fantastic Four and make an X-Men TV series.

We still aren't.

That trailer broke records all right.

You're probably the only one in the world who thinks that would be a good trade for Marvel. As far as the Badoon we have no evidence that Marvel wanted them. James Gunn had them in his script because he didn't know they were off limits. Once he found that out he merely swapped them for the Sakaarans and audiences were none the wiser.

And why would any comic fan not want Marvel to own Galactus? It's probably our best chance at ever seeing him done right.

This is stupid. Yeah maybe there's a cool idea in there for an original script for some other movie but it never was what the Fantastic Four was about. Basically they are saying: we are ignoring over 50 years of stories because who reads that crap? We'll just do our own thing because we can.

Trank called FFINO a "$100 plus blockbuster" in the Collider interview.

Talk about a contradiction in terms. When's the last time a true blockbuster could be made for 100M? The 90s?

No best we can hope for is that this film flops and causes Fox to lose money because this is not the Fantastic Four. I don't mind waiting for the real deal as long as it takes. But as long Fox keeps their grubby paws on this we'll never get the real thing.

The thing is you may very well have another TMNT as all the audience will see is a cool fx extravaganza. I do think this will make a surprisingly large amount.
