These arguments are so repetitive. I find myself saying the same things to the same few people every two weeks or so, and it always ends with them leaving mid-way through the conversation.

Haha I love the horse**** excuse that because both original films were bad, then the CONCEPT of the Fantastic Four is bad and must be completely retooled and distorted.

It's so utterly stupid.

Maybe now if this movie flops the same people will be saying that this new concept is bad and must be retooled and distorted. It's doubtful though.

I've said before, both here and elsewhere, that this could end up being a well made movie. It just won't end up being a good FF movie, which is what I want more than anything at the end of the day.

End of the day I rather just have a good film. If it really captures the essence of the source material great. However I don't hold it against the film because they rather make a good film the best way they know how or available to them.

So basically if Fox made a FF movie that was accurate to the source material it would be stupid, because they would basically be redoing the Story films?
You see the flaw in that logic?

No, but it would look like the Story films at first glance and people would rush to judge it before reviews could hit... which people are doing anyway.

Lol no, his point was that the franchise is apparently "broken" and needed fixing.
I pointed out that the franchise not only has been fine for over 40 years, but that it kickstarted the Marvel universe as we know it. That is not the sign of a franchise that needs retooling, that is not the sign of characters that need revamping to make them work. Yet here he is arguing otherwise.
He then pointed to the previous films and saying that since they failed so bad, it's time to throw out everything we know and love about the FF and start over. That is, again, completely wrongheaded because we live in a time where the Avengers grossed 1.5 billion by sticking close to it's comic book roots. There's no longer a need for "dark and gritty" superhero movies (the executive producer of this movie said so himself, look at my signature) or a need to turn Galactus into a cloud; you can very clearly do the comics justice and people will flock to go see it, if your film is good and worth seeing.
The problems with the previous two installments weren't the source material, it's that they were not good movies. To stray further away from what made the characters popular and beloved for decades is the completely wrong approach.
Anything else?

Once again, you're twisting my words. I never liked Galactus as a cloud.

However I don't hold it against the film because they rather make a good film the best way they know how or available to them.

You don't hold it against them for failing to adapt the characters in an acceptable way that they were given? Proving that they had no respect for the characters but just wanted to make a quick buck or put their own crappy artistic stamp on existing characters?

Wow.

This film actually seems to be trying to recreate the first film.

They're doing a low budget origin story with an inexperienced director and Doom will be connected to the origin of the others and get powers of his own.

Why does that sound so familiar?

this movie will be bad because of both, don't getting the tone right AND being a bad movie. so it's actually worse than the last efforts

We know nothing about this film other than its tone. We don't know what the final quality will be.

wasn't the hypothetical question about why the movie will be bad if the movie will be ba or was I reading it wrong? because I just followed that line of thought

No, but it would look like the Story films at first glance and people would rush to judge it before reviews could hit... which people are doing anyway.

People barely even remember the Story films.

You're giving them way more credit than they actually deserve.

Because Batman Begins came only 8 years after one of the worst comic book movies ever, Batman and Robin. But the teaser and subsequent trailers AND Chris Nolan's clout as a really good filmmaker PUT PEOPLE AT EASE regarding the movie.

If this movie looked like the Fantastic Four with all the Fantastic Four-ness, it doesn't, people wouldn't even bat an eye about the Story films.

Stop clinging to them as if they are the only reason this current film exists and is somehow the "right" direction for them.

Maybe now if this movie flops the same people will be saying that this new concept is bad and must be retooled and distorted. It's doubtful though.

Then the next FF film - whether by Fox or Marvel - will presumably try something different yet again.

Wow.

Where did you get that ******** from what I said.

FOX am geniuses! Trank visionary! Gritty! Cronenberg!

6 billion box office!

You argued that you already know this film will turn out to be crap and the tone is wrong. Judging something before it's out never works out well.

Where did you get that ******** from what I said.

Literally what you said in the post. You don't really care if it's not accurate to the source material, if they didn't or couldn't do it.

That's pretty much exactly what you said.

It was not my intention to say that I already know this film will be bad, I was following a hypothetical thread. so for clarification: the first films were bad because they were bad films, not because of their tone. this new film, if it turns out to be a bad film, will be a bad film and get the tone wrong which will make it worse than the story films

I never claimed to know what is acceptable as an adaption or know how much the creative team respects the characters. That is all you, I had no part in that.

I just assume that everyone KNOWS it'll be a bad film like Batman Begins or X-Men: First Class. I'm kind of glad I wasn't on the forums when those were about to be released since FF2015 is probably getting off light compared to what those two got.

Did you not see all the if's in that post?

Because there were a couple.

And I never said you claimed anything. Jesus christ. You said you didn't care if it was a good adaptation or not as long as it was a good movie. That's ****ing what you said.

well, FC turned out to be a pretty uneven film at best, so kudos to those who knew before

No, but it would look like the Story films at first glance and people would rush to judge it before reviews could hit... which people are doing anyway.
No it wouldn't. Here you are drumming up an image in your head of what a comic book accurate FF movie would look like, yet all you can picture is a Tim Story rip off? Trust me, you can do so much with the characters. Done well, it would look nothing like that cheap, cringe-worthy franchise that is, at this point, nearly ten years old.
Once again, you're twisting my words. I never liked Galactus as a cloud.
That was not the main crux of my argument so I'm not even sure what the point of this rebuttal is.
End of the day I rather just have a good film. If it really captures the essence of the source material great. However I don't hold it against the film because they rather make a good film the best way they know how or available to them.
So you're basically fine with them making a FF film that does not resemble the FF in tone or spirit? That's great, but I hope in the future you will understand other fans vitriol against this production. We would like our comic book movies to resemble their comic book counterparts. I don't think that's too much to ask, do you?

X-men FC was nowhere near this maligned, and I say that as someone who was looking forward to that production. I remember defending it quite a bit.
