That's true, but more recently he's begun to criticize more non-Fox work while hyping up pretty much anything Fox does.

I don't see Liefeld criticizing much. What hasn't he liked from Marvel or DC?

In recent years, I've tried to keep an open-mind when it comes to the visual realizations of these characters. Hell, I've even come around to Leto's inked-up and grillz-sporting Joker.

But what they've done to Doom... I'm sorry, but how anyone thought this looked visually striking is dumbfounding to me. I simply cannot believe it. If a conceptual artist turned this thing into me, I'd have fired them on the spot, because they clearly have no grasp on visual iconography beyond that of a 12-year-old boy born of the video game generation.

Then maybe Fox should have shown off Doom sooner with a character poster. Fox's marketing department (or lack thereof) strikes again!

He's pretty harsh on the Thor films (fair enough, opinions and whatnot) and has a bit of a... promotional vibe when discussing Fox films. I totally get where he's coming from, and I don't think he's an awful human being. He's got connections there, though, and he's always been a big self promoter.

He hasn't liked Marvel pulling Fox film related merch from the shelves (less royalties for the man that fooled a generation of kids into thinking they could become comic book artists because they could draw as well as, if not better, than him).

Couldn't say if he has ever disliked a film though (Do not follow whatever he has to say beyond what gets posted here).

His endorsement means nothing to me one way or another.

I can't believe some people are still debating on seeing it after complaining about it for months. I've always said that I think this will be a good movie but not a good F4 and for that, I can't support Fox and this foolishness. To me the case is closed. I ain't seeing it and I'm discouraging everyone I know and their friends to not see it.

To be fair, I didn't like Thor 2 much either.

Earlier in this thread, someone asked me what I wanted in a FF movie......and one of the things I listed was - I want the 4 to have an accident that gives them powers with Doom being nowhere near them in any way....and also I want a FF movie where Doom doesn't have powers like they do....he has nothing to do with them gaining powers or having any powers like them....he's just a crazy guy in a suit of armor.

What if, in the next reboot, Doom already exists before the F4 and he (secretly) sends them on their mission into space? It would seperate Doom's origin from theirs and be a fun subversion of the previous films with him responsible for the F4's existence and not the other way around.

When you do something different with your character's look it is never a good idea to reveal that at the last minute.

General rule of thumb when your design is going to raise eyebrows: show it early and show it often. Fans didn't like the Iron Man 3 armor... but got used to it in time for the film. Same thing happened with, of all things, Black Widow's hairstyle in Winter Soldier.

That said, I don't know that I'd ever adjust to Victor Malekith.

Agreed. At least Leto's Joker still looks like the Joker, whereas this is some weird steampunk electric eel alien robot hybrid, not Doom.

I don't think we know WHAT Doom is. And I think that's the point. He, and his fate, are likely meant to be mysteries. I want to know what the hell cracked his head open and made it glow green, though. And how he survived that.

That, and they seem to be going with a very tragic, pathetic take on Doom, which is interesting. Sort of along the lines of the undercurrent the character has, but different than the "top of the world" Doom everyone's used to seeing.

I don't have any strong feelings towards Trank-Doom's design one way or the other (I mean I don't love it) but I can see why fans dislike it.

I think many would disagree about Leto's Joker really looking Joker like.

Some of these complaints...

Bad acting? No. The acting in this trailer is anything but bad. Not even the kids can be considered bad, by child actor standards. I like young Reed. He's actually kind of subtle, and not the "cute little kid" Hollywood forces down our throats so often.

Reshoots. Which part is it that people believe they reshot, exactly, and what exactly are the issues with it?

The CGI looks okay to me, though some of it in the international version of the trailer is clearly not done. It may not be entirely finished, but it looks pretty good. I don't understand a lot of complaints people have about CGI sometimes. I don't need effects to look perfect...maybe it comes from being a child of the 80's and having to grow up using my imagination with films.

Dark tone. I don't think this looks that dark. Maybe more serious, but "dark"? I dunno. I just don't see it so far. Obviously some of the more intense scenes have a darkness to them, but thats par for the course with superhero films, but there seems to be enough "down time" to balance it out.

Trank's Twitter thing...why do people even care? What bearing on the final film does a man not having a thick enough skin for you have? For all we know, someone's personally attacking him beyond just Twitter complaints. I just don't see why it matters, other than it gives people one more thing to whine about when it comes to Trank.

Doom literally looks like he belongs in a dead space game. There were rumors of him having 3 monologues in this and that is the only thing I am looking forward to about his character.

Yeah. Once again, Fox's marketing department prove that they have no idea what they're doing.

Anyway I'm really open minded about redesigns, I don't have any huge complaints about The Thing other than he does look more like Clayface than he should. Kinda annoys me because I want to see Clayface in live action one day. Anyway the point is that I do not dislike the design.

My biggest problem have been the ugly Fantastic Four costume designs. I don't get why Trank is acting like it's the late 90's or early 2000's and that people should be afraid of comicbook costumes for their Superheroes? You can ground a costume without making it look like boring **** and for some reason Fox didn't get the memo.

A citizen of Pompeii covered in kryptonite?

I'll agree to most of this (particularly since Batman V Superman is much darker) but the Trank thing on Twitter does rub me the wrong way. Why would I want to fund him if he's acting like a jerk?

Re: The story.

I think it was Willie who said something along the lines of that there's no way to figure out what the story of the film is from this trailer, and that's just nonsense. If you can't grasp the basic storyline from this trailer, you aren't trying.

It's clearly about a superintelligent kid who pioneers a new method of exploration/travel, these four/five people journey to a distant dimension/planet, something awful/transformative happens there, they return with powers, some aspects of which cause them serious problems and require adaption, and then these emerging powers are used as weapons by the government/powers-that-be. The young people with powers engage in a bit of a power struggle with their superiors, ultimately becoming heroes in their own rite. One of them turns bad, or uses his power for nefarious purposes, and the others have to stop him. The themes involve our responsibilities regarding scientific exploration and advancement, responsible use of power, and the idea of family and friendship.

Now, you may not LIKE that story, but it is clearly conveyed in the trailers we have seen.

People keep calling this overall concept "generic". Not seeing it. When's the last time we saw a superhero movie about a kid genius?

About a school/institute full of said?

About people with powers dealing with them as "disabilities"?

About the military using said kids as weapons.

About an exploration to a distant planet made of craggy rocks and green lava and the adventures therein?

Is it the most unique thing ever seen visually? No. What is anymore? But neither is it just like everything else we've seen before.

I dunno, people keep asking for things like cosmic adventures and giant monsters and so on, but those things aren't any less generic in a certain context. It's all been done before somewhere. In the context of a superhero film, I think this is pretty unique stuff in a lot of respects.

Yep. As somebody who likes the new Doom, I simply can't get behind the new FF costumes. Reed has the worst of the bunch.

If a Twitter post rubs fans the wrong may, maybe fans also need a thicker skin.

Look, being a creative person or a director does not equal: decent, mature human being.

At some point, I think you have to learn to separate an artist and their actions from their art. You don't have to like them to like what they create.

Extensive reshoots usualy mean trouble. And Mara's obvious bad wig is distracting.

I agree that people complain way too much about CGI and just like to say that it's bad just because they don't like a project but I believe that a lot of the CGI in FF does look bad, it looks Green Lantern/Terminator Genesis level. It's unfortunate we disagree this time because in general I agree with your assessment of the whining about CGI.

The tone looks fine to me, I think people are just too used to the Marvel comedy tone. I'm getting sick and tired of that tone so...yeah.

I don't have any comment on this, if you don't care, you just don't.
