Fant4stic: Reborn! - Part 35

I hope F4 fans don't kill me but I find the Negative Zone origin more compelling than the Space origin.

I'm absolutely fine with a Negative Zone origin, but how about giving us a Fantastic Four or even UFF film after that?

Act 1: Negative Zone teleportation. Doom is lost in Negative Zone while others get powers.

Act 2: Fantastic Four enters the negative Zone to rescue Doom. They encounter all manner of creatures, challenges, alien civilizations etc. and are in constant peril.

Act 3: They find Doom who has created Armor for himself to cover scars he suffered during teleportation. He has made himself ruler of a small alien community. When he encounters the FF, he realized he can use their device to get back to Earth - where he will rule, but he has to kill the FF so they can't stop him.

I could get completely onboard with something like that even though it would diverge greatly from the 616 story. But it would also maintain some key elements and, most importantly, give us some Fantastic elements.

That's the biggest problem with this latest trailer and everything else we've seen so far. Nothing has been Fantastic.

You're entitled to your own opinion but I feel like the space adventure aspects of FF are the most compelling pieces that will never be explored as long as the people who are in charge are involved. There is non of the whimsy or wonder that is present in the comics translated to film here.

Sidenote: Just me or did the acting leave much to be desired in the trailer... like it was horrible?

The acting was terrible. The kid Reed scene was groan worthy. Everyone just looks like their mouthing lines with little or no emotion.

Compared to the other comic-con trailers, this one ought to be embarrassed that it was released. There's just nothing compelling about it at all.

Even Fox knows this because they released a kick ass Deadpool trailer and a pretty darn good Apocalypse trailer.

I don't think It was a bad trailer definitely expect The Wolverine numbers for opening weekend

I watched the final FFINO trailer on mute this morning. If you excuse the awful looking Thing and the inexplicably terrible Doom, this actually looked watchable.

Then I watched it with sound. The dialogue continues to be cringeworthy, and like all of the other clips we have seen the "jokes" are actually awkwardly worded statements that cut to a smirking Kate Mara. FFINO is pretty much guaranteed to be the most poorly written CBM of 2015. I know certain folks are holding out hope that the film is going to do well with critics on RT, but that's going to require ear plugs.

The dialogue really drives me crazy. Just a lot of vague, disjointed pithy comments with no hint of an actual story or any character development.

The trailer feels hollow and empty - like there's no structure behind the one-liners.

i posted this a few pages back, to no response.. but

i'm honestly fine with the Negative Zone origin.. it's the same spirit of the space race and uncharted territory.. but the fact majority of this film deals with their "tragic accident" and "disfigurements" and coping with them.. is beyond total BS.... I almost kinda feel like If marvel ever get's the rights back... they need to tell a main story.. but a flash-back story... Maybe the F4 and Doom were a big strange thing that happened in the 80s... Doom won, thought he killed them (really just sent them through a time portal) they re-appear in modern times, unaged.. they're big celebrities... Doom aged a bit.. and was kinda bored with no longer having a rival... Latveria is in shambles.. Doom see's them return, his anger rebirths.. yada yada... that way you keep the back history.. the origin story is done, it could be sorta similar to how DC is handling Batman right now.
That sounds like a really interesting way to handle another reboot. I'd watch something like that if it looked good of course.

I thought both of the new trailers looked great, loved seeing .Reed being the leader in the final battle, Johnny Storm acting like he should, Sue being strong and finally a Thing that looks capable of fighting someone like the Hulk. Loved the young Reed and Ben stuff as well.

I know many are not liking the look of this but based on the trailers I really like what I am seeing.

I actually really liked the young Reed and Ben sequences but that's it. If Mike Tyson wasn't voicing a naked eunuch Thing and Doom wasn't a krill eating Metallo rip-off and Harvey Elder wasn't trying to impersonate Agent Smith I might even give it a watch. But unfortunately, those are all deal breakers for me. Maybe they'll get it right in the next reboot.

I do too and that's why I really don't want this film to be bad. I remember discussion on the site we can't mention by name here, that commenters would trash DOFP at every mention it got prior to release with people demanding that the rights revert back to Marvel. Bryan Singer also had a rape lawsuit (since dismissed) to contend with before release. Then the film came out and everyone loved what they saw. There was also a lack of marketing and trailers which failed to show off powers or the Sentinels to say nothing of how bad Quicksilver's outfit looked (and still looks).

So far it seems like Fox has made all the same mistakes with allegations about the director, a lack of marketing and horrible costuming decisions.

And First Class was really just a rights grab. End of the day, it was made so Fox could hold on to the X-Men film rights. It also had extensive reshoots during post-production, the director was involved in a sex scandal involving one of the film's stars and this was when Marvel started their merchandise freeze. Plus the title was renamed from, "X-Men Origins: Magneto" to avoid association with the first Wolverine film. That and Havok being made the Older Summers brother and Banshee being turned American rubbed fans the wrong way.

I watched the trailer. As I did so, I couldn't help but think to myself "I can't believe this is happening."

What the hell did they do to Doom's face? I mean....what is that?

After watching that, I feel even more resolved to skip this thing in theaters. I am not going to encourage FOX to continue spewing out s*** like this with my hard-earned $$$. Just no. :down

FC was a part of a highly successful film franchise. The X-Men brand alone will bring audience members to a film. In addition it was a well crafted, enjoyable summer movie that looked bright and action-packed in the trailers. Compare that to this film's abysmal marketing, oppressive bleakness, and lack of a strong built-in franchise audience. Its going to be a dud.

The xmen trailer was misleading us all. These guys are the four horsemen of the apocalypse

Well it's obvious we will disagree so what's the point in quoting me?

I understand your reservations about Doom but I am intrigued to see what they do with it. Last year Kebbell played a superb villain an MCU villain hasn't got close to with the exception of Loki, so I am looking forward to his performance as well. The look may be garbage, but I think the performance will be great.

The rest I really like the look of as stated.

I was agreeing with you about the Reed and Ben sequence.

But whatevs...

First Class was great. But that's all on Vaughn. He killed it. Makes me wish he didn't walk away from X3.

It was part of a failed film franchise. First Class was successful critically but only made a small profit commercially. The trailers also didn't show off much action. Don't kid yourself.

Fox's marketing has always been terrible. They dislike showing off more than three trailers, their marketing is usually late and they dislike doing interviews. That's just how they do business. It sucks but they figure that it keeps costs down so they don't want to change.

There was sooooo much bad dialogue in this trailer.

***"What if we say no?"

"Say Yes."

:whatever:

***"We're a family."

:whatever::whatever:

***"What is coming?"

"Doom".

:whatever::whatever::whatever:

***"He's stronger than any of us. But he's not stronger than all of us."

:whatever::whatever::whatever::whatever:

What kind of paint-by-number cliché s*** is this? Every generic line used in every CBM to date was in this trailer. And I still don't know what the plot is, except Glitter-Face is coming.

The Four will be home by then, so yeah, they will.

At the risk of sounding maudlin.....when do you think there will be the next reboot....10 - 20 years.....I'm 58....I don't want to wait too much longer to see a decent filming of the comic.

Yep. If feels like they fed every superhero film ever made into a computer and that spit out a number of scenes and lines. And then they just filmed all those scenes and strung them together as a trailer.

There's nothing fresh, nothing original and nothing vaguely interesting.

I can't imagine anyone saying to a friend: "Wow! I just saw the new FF trailer and you won't believe it! There's a scene in which . . . "

I mean how could you fill in the blank? It's all completely bland.

"Wow! I just saw the new FF trailer and you won't believe it! There's a scene in which . . . "

". . . the Thing's voice is just a high-pitched Jamie Bell!"

". . . Doom looks like a burnt steampunk glo-in-the-dark zombie!"

". . . Kate Mara's hair turns from real to a wig and back again from scene to scene!"

Fox Executive: We need you to try and salvage Fantastic Four.

Kinberg and Vaughn: What if we say no?

Fox Executive: *pulls out gun* Say yes.

That's understandable. I reckon MS would have them onscreen in some form shortly after the Infinity War business, say 2020-21 or so.
