They are hardly betting against them, their current event basically stars FF related characters. Then after the event ends, yes there won't be a FF book, but the characters will be moved to high profile books or at least books that Marvel will be pushing hard. The Thing will be joining the GOTG, a book that has gained a lot after the success of the movie, and can be expected to continue to get a push ahead of the sequel. Johnny Storm will be with the Inhumans, another book that Marvel will be pushing hard. And Sue will be doing SHIELD stuff.

They won't be in a FF book but I would say that they will get more attention from Marvel in their new books than they would if they continued to be in just a FF book.

Except you aren't really missing them if they are still around. They killed Thor when they cancelled his book and revived him under JMS I thinl.

If You just keep shuffling 3 or 4 characters across good and bad runs you aren't really creating anticipation so much as annoyingly putting characters in other stories where they could have been useful as the FF.

I hope this film is awesome since it will give Fox leverage to get Marvel to stop playing hardball and work out a similar deal that they worked out with Sony and Universal.

That's why I want this film to succeed. There is nothing about this film that isn't salvageable in a sequel and if Fox and Marvel can agree to merge universes while maintaining continuity, all the better.

The problem is that if this film succeeds, absolutely nothing changes. FOX will likely still ask for TV rights, but with a successful FF franchise off the table, what do they have (apart from SW IV) to bargain? Marvel requested the Surfer and Galactus in exchange for a short extension of the DD rights, so I can't see Ike settling for less than the entire FF character family. And FOX won't give any of that up if FFIN - excuse me, Fant4stic - excels at the box office.

So with nothing left to talk about, both companies kick the can down the road. FOX continues pumping out films and hoping that the minimal visibility in comics, merchandise, animation, video games and live action TV doesn't cripple their ability to compete against DC and Marvel. Marvel continues their long term plans of the MCU and continues to treat the X-Men and FF as the unprofitable franchises that they are.

Merging continuities isn't going to happen. If Marvel didn't do it for Spidey, they're not going to do it for the FOX controlled properties. But there could be much better cooperation between the two studios that would benefit fans of all Marvel franchises. But that requires talking. And a successful FF film kills that.

Merging continuities isn't going to happen. If Marvel didn't do it for Spidey, they're not going to do it for the FOX controlled properties. But there could be much better cooperation between the two studios that would benefit fans of all Marvel franchises. But that requires talking. And a successful FF film kills that.

I feel like MBJ's Human Torch and Kate's Invisible Woman are going to be the best characters in this film.

And I can see the progression of the CGI with every new tv spot.

I would like for it to go the route of Batman Begins. A good foundation that could be improved upon in the second film. If it can make 350 to 400 million worldwide, I think we'll see a sequel. Especially if the reviews are not horrible. lol

The difference is that Avi Arad's movies weren't very good while most of the X-Men films were X-cellent.

If this film fails, Fox won't wipe their X-Men continuity for the sake of the FF. If anything, they'll get more entrenched since they'll have a ton of pressure on them to deliver a better sequel.

But Fox needs to give up all claims to merchandise royalties. That and they need to work out the same deal with Quicksilver and the Skrulls for Kang, Viper and the Shi'Ar.

They aren't unprofitable. For the longest time through the 80s and 90s X-Men was Marvels premier franchise. Marvel sold those rights as they were amongst their most profitable. Marvel may try to bury them but they'd still be profitable, it'd just be marvel would be choosing not to profit from them.

no, they just arn't bringing it back any time soon, the team was divided up into other comics, and never sold that "great" so they don't see it as a loss, and it's really not. just sucks for us fans.

When/if marvel gets the rights back.. expect F4 EVERYTHING

Marvel may try to bury them but they'd still be profitable, it'd just be marvel would be choosing not to profit from them.

X-Men is hardly unprofitable.

The third trailer was the last footage I saw. With more spots and featurettes something's will probably get spoiled knowing Hollywood

I don't think Marvel is hurting themselves by ending the FF comic. It wasn't selling well and them canceling it is making them far more relevant then they've been in a while. Where Marvel is hurting itself is in the movie merchandising of FF and the X-Men. There is money to be made through video games, comics, and so fourth. That tie in with the movie that is not be capitalized on. Regardless of the split it's still money that you don't have because you want to be a a-hole.

1) no there really isn't, not unless the movies get reallly really good

2) the X-men movie toys HAVE NEVER sold very well... infact.. because the X-3 and Wolverine figures peg-warmed... Hasbro had a very hard time trying to put the Wolverine Legends and X-men Legends figures in stores... mass retail DID NOT WANT THEM. Because past toys peg-warmed. Also, until Apocalypse, the X-men costumes have been boring as all get-out. Kids don't want them. Thus they don't sell. Anywho because of this.. the comic figures are having a very difficult time finding a home retail wise... both Wolverine and X-men Legends became exclusives, as did the X-men FA box set. Even the 3.75" scale wolverine figures were in short supply. you also have to keep in mind just because it's comic related, doesn't mean it's going to sell either... there's no X-men cartoon right now and kids might not recognize the characters.

3) I do believe the Fantastic Four (first film) toys sold pretty well, But the sequels did not... they also peg-warmed like crazy. So since then, only associated characters have really gotten a green-lit, about 3 years ago we got Dr. Doom (the last direct association) but since then we've gotten Medusa, Black Bolt, Namor, Blastaar, Terrax, Thundra, Black Panther, Klaw.... But I don't see the 4 popping up any time soon, marvel doesn't want kids getting excited about the FOX movies... and i don't blame them. Keep in mind, this film could really actually damage the perspective Marvel wants the public to have on their characters... what if they don't like the tone of this film? and kids like it? What if this film becomes more popular than the real deal? they'd have to be forced to change the comics to suit public opinion.. and that's not something they want to do.

people tend to forget the F4 can't really be a long lasting franchise without something changing... 85% of their best stories and characters are tied into Marvel Studios... they can't even do half the Frightful Four roster...

and I seriously don't see Mole Man, The Wizard, the Badoon, Trapster, Puppet Master, or Dragon Man carrying a film... they're neutered at fox.. and watered down unfortunately.

Actually the first FF movie toys didn't sell well at all, and there was little if any put out for the 2nd movie. I don't believe anything new was brought out for #2. I know there were no action figures of any kind the 2nd go around. The Fantasticar was put out with the first movie. So, not sure what was put out with the 2nd.

there were some F4:ROTSS tie-ins, I thought the F4 stuff sold well, i mean, i know it pegged warmed because they produced way too much, but I thought it had a decent haul? but that could explain why they didn't put so much out for the sequel.

I know I have a Silver Surfer that was a target exclusive for the film. It was part of the Icon's series.

they also put out comic "Fantastic Four Legends" i believe around that time. to try to tie in to the film
