Screen International:

After battling months of bad buzz, "Fantastic Four" emerges as a wounded animal of a superhero movie, only rarely showing flashes of the darker, more emotional breed of Marvel film it's trying to be... filmmaker Josh Trank struggles to balance an origin story, mediocre comic-book action, and a strained metaphor about dysfunctional families. A good cast led by Miles Teller gets swallowed up in a narrative that grows progressively more muddled and tedious

Most of the fan reactions on twitter seem to be in the 'meh' category, didn't like it but didn't hate it. What I expected really

That doesn't bode well as typically these things tend to skew positive in the moment and then decline over time. Just look at old polls for something like Spider-Man 3 or Superman Returns versus how those films are viewed now.

What did you think?

Ok but not great. They have not made a film that will hold up as a definite F4 movie. It was a bit charmless and soulless. I preferred the Thing in Story's movies. The Things voice sounded pretty bad and his eyes looked weird at times. I was miffed to find out there was no spandex style suits at the end. I thought they may have referred to this.

Movie's still tracking for 50 million OW domestic, even if WOM is toxic, it'll still manage that 350 m WW number easily.

God, I wish Trank could tell the tale of what went wrong, I doubt he'll let anything slip on Kevin Smith'd podcast but who knows.

@antonydavanzo I'm guessing Doom wasn't well handled then as well?

Was Bell's voice modulated at all or was it simply Jamie's voice like in the trailers?

even if the film makes a decent profit but the bad review trend continues i can't see them making a sequel. it would be a horrible idea imo

I was just about to ask this. I need to know too.

Whether youre looking forward to the movie or not, you can't possibly see that as a good thing...

Edit: you know what. I'm posting that reply in the other thread. This is supposed to be the positive thread and I don't want to step on any toes by answering your post.

If the kiddies love it, the whole thing is moot. Parents and older siblings having to take them adds up to more cheddar the thing can make. I have heard brats around Chicago talking about how it looks awesome.

Deadline's saying between $40 and $50 million.

Actually Victor Von Doom was ok...until he turned into Dr Doom. It went a bit pear shaped with his character after that! As Victor Von doom , he was good to watch.

@Endeavor:

-Rights grab or not, it doesn't mean that the people involved are out to make a bad movie.

-We do not know that, it's heresay.

-We don't know that either.

Rumors and all that, it's easy to pile on the young director, benefit of the doubt anyone? Or is it not possible that Trank actually had a vision and Fox went in and f**** it up because they were nervous.

This ain't for young kids at all. It's got a few very bloody scenes with exploding heads that I would not want to show to a kid. They have not made this movie for young kids and this may hurt the movie.

well this sounds interesting...

Exploding heads and gore? Well I'm sure they won't wanna see it now. :o

Wow that read nowhere like a 3/5 star review, that'll probably a fresh on rotten tomatoes haha

Isn't it that the person that writes the review that decides if the review is considered fresh or rotten on RT?
