Rumors and all that, it's easy to pile on the young director, benefit of the doubt anyone? Or is it not possible that Trank actually had a vision and Fox went in and f**** it up because they were nervous.

Or is it possible this movie was ****ed and Fox tried fixing it as much as they could?

Fox has let Directors like Vaughn, Singer and now Tim Miller do what they want with comic properties with seemingly no issues. As much as people like bashing the studio when they do things wrong and because of the Rothman era, they make some excellent movies and have been off the whole sabotage a film kick for years now.

I have a feeling this may be the case. The backlash likely pressured them into adding a big scale third act like other popcorn superhero movies when it sounds like the movie was meant to be more personal and not an end-of-the-world affair

Isn't it that the person that writes the review that decides if the review is considered fresh or rotten on RT?

That's true. But that specific person rated it 60% (3/5 stars) which is borderline fresh on RT.

Exploding heads and gore? Well I'm sure they won't wanna see it now. :o

The biggest thing I like about MCU is I can take my 6yr old to watch them. This is not for any kid. I think about a dozen soldiers all get the Dr Doom head explosion move done on them!

I'm not piling on Trank. I don't think he was the main problem with this film.
It's inception was wrong. The focus he was told to follow was wrong. The budget and timing were wrong.
I'm sure with the right time, budget and idea behind him Trank could have made a fantastic film. Pun intended.

This ain't for young kids at all. It's got a few very bloody scenes with exploding heads that I would not want to show to a kid. They have not made this movie for young kids and this may hurt the movie.

Ha! There it is. The first interesting thing I've heard about this movie.

I've seen 3/5 go either way actually. As he said, the critic decides. In this case, it was fresh though.

Is Thing's voice changed at all?

It depends on how the reviewer submits it. I've seen 3/5 get rated as rotten and vice versa.

i'm guessing the original script probably wasn't action packed to begin with and that's what attracted trank to it in the first place. chronicle was very heavily character driven with few action scenes as well.

Trank pitched the idea and wrote a first draft.

But even that fresh rating was tinted in the light of "poor puppy" "it wasn'st THAT bad"

I always suspected Fox would be cast at fault for the negative reception the movie would get, and I've always maintained that this movie would probably be much more interesting if they left it as-is with Trank's direction, but I don't think it'd necessarily be better, or certainly good for that matter. The first telltale sign to me was Vaughn's "damned with faint praise" quote before reshoots started:
“I’ve seen the movie, it’s good… I thought Chronicle was a fantastic movie and [Josh] Trank has gone off and done his version of Fantastic Four. If you like Chronicle, then you’ll like this… We’re all backing Josh Trank’s vision… And hopefully the world will like Josh Trank’s vision.”

I am curious what the major differences are between the two.

Trank pitched the idea and wrote a first draft.

So...yes? Kinda. Sounds like it was probably Chronicle 2.0 and then Fox was like, "Nah." and threw Kinberg in to "action it up" and the two butted heads because they were working on different movies.

Sucks. The ideas in this film seemed really neat. Maybe next time.

most of the fan complaints ive seen on twitter are dealing with pacing and a rushed third act. the similarities to 'the wolverine' are just too strong.

If they make a sequel to that "Doomed" movie coming out on Corman F4 and made it about this film's production, I'd be all over it. Or maybe it'll be a small chapter in the inevitable MCU documentary 10-20 years from now chronicling their rise (and possible fall?) with all the dirty laundry finally aired out in the open.

Wonder if it's one of those movies that those who like character driven stories would love if it didn't have obvious reshuffling to be more commercial and as a result it was just okay.

The Wolverine had similiar criticism regarding the third act not fitting with the rest of the movie.

Wolverine was still recieved well though so it's possible that the rushed third act may not compromise the rest of the movie
