Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - - - Part 39

I don't understand the obsession of having Dr. Doom get superpowers and go on the mission with the Fantastic Four. You would think they would at least try and change that from the Story films.

It's interesting seeing the progression. In the Corman film, we had Doom's accident being the inspiration for the Fantastic Four's disastrous origin journey. Then in the Story films, Doom went along with the four for the actual journey. Now in this one, Doom replaces Sue in the journey. If Fox makes another reboot, it'll be about Doom making the journey by himself.

They didn't. Sony released the rights back to their studio partner, Marvel, after the failure of GR:SOV. No additional consideration was required.

This still paid off in the end, as I bet it contributed to the good will and working relationship between the companies. Thus, a couple years later, they were able to negotiate the Spider-man deal. Was it make or break? No, but it probably didn't hurt, and likely helped get them a better deal than Marvel might have otherwise pushed.

AFAIK the embargo still holds, the reviews (5) that hit today, are either from sites that understand that FOX broke the embargo first in the spots, or don't apply for embargo due to reviewing a public screening in the UK.

Several of them are the major trade publications, as well. There could be an element of "Go ahead, Fox. Try to blackball us. We call your bluff."

Fox owns the film rights to the Xmen characters and the FF characters. They can do a crossover and use it as a soft reboot. And Marvel is likely to get in the way of that.

No.

One, they own *licenses* to use the characters in movies. They own two separate licenses.

Two, these licenses are different contracts, with different terms, and different royalties owed. These are not-insignificant factors, that mean unless crossovers were included in the ( separate ) contracts? There is no way Fox can cross them over without a new contract.

interesting in deed.. there's been speculation that the heavy ad space on the front page may be part of it... FOX understandably wouldn't want to pay a website to do such a promotion if their reviews are terrible.

Talk about SHH/Coming Soon getting editorially compromised. Pretty pathetic to be honest if that is the case.

Did anyone read the Miles Teller interview in Esquire.

I mean he did kinda come off as a *****e, but it was written pretty stupidly.

Teller reminded me a lot of early Shia LaBeouf in the interview. I hope he doesn't end up the same way.

That interview is exactly what I have expected of him since I first saw him in a movie. I personally really don't see what everyone else does in him as a performer.

He has range and is likeable. Him in Rabbit Hole and Whiplash is way different from him in Spectacular Now or 21 & Over.

I think he has a lot of talent. I just hope he doesn't let his perceived attitude get in the way

Just saw the Doom clip. He looks like Dot from Spaceballs if she were set on fire.

This. I don't get it either; comes across to me as a cocky know-it-all who isn't nearly as good or cool as he thinks he is.

That interview was a disaster in terms of perceived likeability.

Devin Faraci liked it. No surprise there as he's friends with Trank.
Of course he did. :funny:

Devin's one beer with Zack Snyder away from being DC's biggest cheerleader. He's a shill.

Except for JJ. He's the devil. :funny:

He couldn't be more transparent.

Devin Faraci is the worst, the worst. I have absolutely no respect for that idiot.

Remember that time Devin Faraci warned us of the bad buzz he'd been hearing about Daredevil?

Devin Faraci always gives good reviews to his friends movies, he is untrustworthy and a Marvel Studios movie shill. He does not review certain films, he makes up his mind before he sees the films.

When someone tells me that Faraci is a reviewer they trust, I cease talking to them.

I've been done with that guy's reviews for a looooong time. The only time I even pay attention to him is when he has "scoops" (not on the quality of something, but on potential news like casting or what not), b/c I do think he has some sources. But I don't believe him for a second whenever he claims something is a certain kind of buzz or whatever and certainly don't bother with his reviews. His biases are always clear as day.

You are a smarter woman than I flickchick.

I don't know which insane person doesn't love flickchick.

The Empire review 2*

http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/reviewcomplete.asp?FID=139047

Funny since Fox quoted it for their TV Spot.

The first part of a two-part film you can’t watch just yet, Fantastic Four ends on an optimistic, just-you-wait-for-the-sequel note. But as an origin story that’s all origins and no story, there’s a hollow, stale feeling to this occasionally admirable attempt to Nolanise Marvel’s dysfunctional family.
