Huh? The plot from Avengers was ripped straight out of Ultimates v1. There was obvious heavy influence and inspiration there. To say there was very little Ultimate inspiration is quite inaccurate. The MCU may not be entirely based on the Ultimate line but its influence is definitely felt

Avengers is certainly influenced by the Ultimates, but it's also heavily influenced by the fifty plus years of Avengers comics that came before it. You can't say the same for FFINO.

Yeah I was the same way, I knew it wouldn't be a film I wanted to see but while I wanted people to be right that it would be a failure I kept thinking that it could end up doing well. If they had pulled off the film they claimed they were trying to make I think it could have resonated well with critics but because they didn't pull off anything (except a big box office flop) it made things hard to predict how things ended up.

yeah... here's the thing people are completely ignorant about...

Ultimate inspirations doesn't suddenly make the film "ultimate based"

the ultimate universe in conception, took concepts from the 616 universe, and updated them in a modern retelling in a more "realistic" setting (initially) of course it later turned into "change for the sake of change"

this same concept is used for films... some ideas just simply WONT work in modern day film settings... for instance... SHIELD was used to create the Avengers... rather than Rick Jones and them randomly coming together... it was just simply more logical. But they still came together to fight their first villain... Loki (just like the 616 continuity)

the major heavy influences to the ultimate universe in the MCU are basically just Fury, when you have a living actor who embodies (and actually had his likeness used for a version of the character) a non cheesy fury (sorry we weren't going to have david hasslehoff again and have him flying around on jet packs) you use that actor. Similarly... the other major Ultimate influence was Hawkeye... who borrows his shield origin, A1 borrowed his costume (AoU borrowed a more classic 616 silhouette sans mask), and AoU borrowed his Ultimate wife. His humor is slowly also beginig to show a little more 616 inspirations.. so he's really a perfect marriage of 616 and Ultimate... while Widow, Tony, Hulk, Thor, Wanda (though altered), Vision (though altered) , and cap are VERY heavily 616 based in stories and personalities.

I have no problem with Ultimate influences if they just simply make more sense in todays world (lets also face it... Circus acting, former criminal Hawkeye probably wasn't going to work, but they at least gave him a nod of his villainous past in A1 by making him a lacky of loki) .. but when it's un-needed change for the sake of change..

the great mass majority of the MCU is 616 influenced... and i love that. And i didn't have a problem with this film borrowing the Negative Zone concept for their origin.. it made sense. But aside from their ages.. there was not a whole lot 616 or Ultimate inspiration in this film at all.... it rewrote the fantastic four almost completely.

Josh Trank even admitted to never reading Ultimate Fantastic Four... and those who HAVE actually read it.. can tell you there's VERY LITTLE Ultimate about it... outside of ages and origin...

Ultimate Fantastic Four was terrible.

This film was terrible.

So in that way, way, the two are similar. But in terms of visuals, characters, story etc. the similarities are extremely sparse, superficial and limited almost entirely to a few elements included in the first act.
 
I don't care what Fox/Trank said or didn't say....VERY, VERY LITTLE of the newest F4 movie comes from the Ultimates...VERY LITTLE. And if one actually read the Ultimate FF, they would no that. It has only at the most only a few passing similarities.
 
spideyboy brings up a lot of good points about the similarities/differences between ultimate and 616. I also didn't know that Trank outright stated he'd never read the ultimate comics but it doesn't surprise me.

it reminds me of people saying the Raimi Trilogy was based off of the Ultimate Universe because he met MJ in HS, had organic webbing, and Eddie Brock had the Jr. Suffix... *eyeroll*

he didnt outright say Ultimate, but he said he never read the comics (in general) and got his F4 knowledge from the Marvel Handbooks and Encyclopedias, as well as the Tim Story films and the past cartoons..

that was it.

As a general statement, a lot of times when people claim something is from the Ultimates, they didn't know what they are talking about.

For example, Marvel Studios does take a lot of things from the Ultimates and also from the 616, but they also put in a dash of their own spin. I've had people argue with me that MCU Thor is 100% based totally off of Ultimate Thor then eventually admit they never read Ultimates. (Ultimate Thor, by Millar at least, is pretty different than any other version of Thor).
 
i don't even see any similarities honestly outside of "he doesn't where his helmet" to ultimate thor....
 
Ultimate Thor was seen as crazy delusional man who claimed he was from Asgard.

While some would say, that's just like the movie. In the comics, you weren't sure. In the movie, the first 20-30 minutes shows Thor on Asgard. :huh:
