Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - - - - - Part 41

heard earlier that Marvel is looking at Mads Mikkelson for the Dr. Strange villain. Alas, he'd have made a wonderful Doom.

Most definitely. He would've had more gravitas than Kebell or McMahon. Kebell was walking around in jeans and doing normal things and getting drunk. This is not behaviour becoming of Doom. Mads would've had that more lofty personality.

Why does Sue Storm have to be a scientist in these movies? Is there something wrong with being an actress - at least more similar to what she was in the comics? Is that sexist? One of the draws of the ff is that they are four unique people with different backgrounds...scientist, actress, pilot, smartass teenager.

Because there's no good reason for an actress to be along on a bleeding edge exploratory mission, and having her be there for a bad reason makes Reed Richards look like the villain of the movie. The only other reasonable alternative is to have the mission be ( thought to be ) safe, and that does more harm to the FF concept than good.

Mikkelson is a bit too old for the role. Kebell was fine and had that sense of dark danger that is perfect for Doom.

The problem was the writing of the character. Doom needed to have links to Latveria and a developed role as a rival to Reed, perhaps also working on the dimensional travel idea. Final scenes should have been a heavily wounded Doom learning he has inherited his grandparents' ancestral home in Latveria, staggering into the castle, covering his body with armour and the green tunic and taking up the throne...

But for some odd reason, this didn't happen...

He's not too old for the role. They don't have to go all CW on the casting.

Id rather not ever have a 20 something looking doom and reed ever ever again....

Kebell was terrible in the role and too young for Doom. He really was like a disgruntled hacker so he should've just been called Domashev.

Give us someone like Bruce Greenwood for Reed whom even Stark would look up to and respect.

I agree about Kebell being miscast, but part of it too is that he played the part as it was written, which was about a disgruntled hacker type. Actors play the role that was written, the occasionally bring something of themselves to the role, but you could resurrect Sir Lawrence Olivier from the grave and the would have played this part as an anti-social blogger, because that's the way it was written, and that's all on Trank and Kinberg.

I will give Kebell some credit because he was the only one in the cast with any enthusiasm. Part of that may be the contentious relationship of the cast with Trank, but Kebell was pretty outspoken about his love for Dr. Doom, and it's clear he did his research in the comics, but the problem was the role was written so poorly there was not much he could do.

It has always pissed me off that Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Spacey were essentially wasted playing buffoons and caricatures instead of being the awesome villains they could have been.

Are there any folks left around here saying......
the movie was good
the movie was ok, but deserves a 2nd chance
the movie was great before Fox interferred....??

A few of us said that, about the diehards, a few weeks ago as a sort of joke, but on a couple other sites a few really are saying " it was good enough to deserve a sequel"
.....which I guess means any piece of garbage flop, critically panned movie DESERVES a sequel.
The mind boggles.
These actors no more want to reprise these roles than they want to star in Ishtar 2.

The most I would want out of an origin would be to do it in a 5-10 minute pre-title sequence and then fast forward to them being full-fledged heroes. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to not showing them at all or even just introducing them as full-fledged heroes in an Avengers film. Maybe Tony needs help with something and goes to Reed or something.

Under no circumstances should we ever get the whole struggling with their powers and learning to become a team story ever again.

I've thought a lot about how it might be done and tend to agree with you. I keep thinking they could fold it into another movie or, if a reboot, have Reed and Ben (Thing) talking about "old days" and go back from there. What I always wanted to see was them meeting up in college (circa 60s comics) and meeting Victor von Doom. Kaboom and we've got maybe the best villain ever. If they bring him in, PLEASE do it right and don't mess him up.

Always wanted to see at least a glimpse of the college days, but it probably won't happen. Maybe start the movie kind of like AoU with a big action scene to get things going and then go back to the beginning.

I also kind of liked the first FF. Flawed, sure, but I was willing to overlook its shortcomings because I was so hungry for that movie. Agree that there was pretty good chemistry with the cast and didn't think it was nearly as bad as some thought. Chris Evans played his role just right (and had the best lines too :woot: ).

Mads could make a good Doom. Having a young Doom is just weird imo.

So is having a young Reed Richards. We definitely need older versions of both next time round. Miles Teller was so unsuited to the part of Reed.

I've always disliked the scientist thing, she just seems more redundant with Reed there. I would like her to of been a surgeon, as it's something Reed or the others can't do, and she would have a really valid reason to join the first expedition. It also works as in the comics (not ultimate) her father was a famous surgeon, and she could of been following his footsteps in a way.

Just keep it the way it was.....keep it old school.

People seem to have a problem with it, I just gave an option that I liked. If I had my way I would include some of the Invisible Girl years just to show how much the character has grown. But that would need a show rather than a film.

Yeah, I get it. "What the hell is an actress doing in outer space?" Well, Reed did like her. Anyway, it's better than what we've gotten so far. If they do a faithful (or even semi-faithful) retelling, I'm cool with it. I'd add the origin of Dr. Doom back at the U; even if he isn't the main villain (which he probably would be, but you could have the explosion in the first movie and not bring him on until the second. It could add some drama and lead up to the sequel.....might work....you could even start the second movie with a brief run of events after the "Kaboom we've got a new Doom" :woot: ).

They could work it up so that instead of the 4 sneaking on to the base and doing the test mission, they were fully sanctioned and Sue was there to see them off. Then the suits have a change of heart of something, and Reed & Ben decide to go anyway. Things get dicey, and they end up taking Sue along with them because it's not safe to leave them behind at the base.

Or Sue could have been trained as a locksmith and help them sneak in. Now THAT'S a unique idea. :loco:

Exactly.......if and when we ever get Doom again.....hopefully in all his deserving glory......he needs to be older and well established in whatever continuity he's introduced. And I pray its Marvel's.

We don't need Norman OsDoom and Doom right after puberty. I am sure after 3 failed disastrous attempts the next people will get it right.

As a tangent, I've suggested this before: if you want to give Sue Storm an area of competency to justify going along on an exploratory mission to some place in space or another dimension? Make her a sociologist or anthropologist. She's there to observe the *culture* of whatever strange life they encounter, to try and understand them and communicate to them and whatnot. It creates a damn good reason for her to be along, which is niche distinct from the other team members while also being faithful to her comic portrayal ( where she is regularly the team diplomat ).

Basically, make her into female Daniel Jackson ( you know, kind of like how Sam Carter is female Reed Richards *eg* ).

Ummm....so Sue isn't a scientist. Well that's a shocker...that's what happens when all you know are the movies. But there has to be some reason she hangs out with these people to get her powers. Maybe she's the doctor, I can think of good reasons for a health professional yo be around,or she runs all the computer stuff, can she at least he an astrophysicist or an astronomer of some kind, maybe the creator of the ship they fly. But an actress.....

Maybe Sue is an escort that Reed hires. :o

At least in that version Sue would actually get in on the action.

Unless it were Trank directing/ Kinberg writing it. Then escort Sue would be left behind while Reed, Ben, Johnny and Domashev have a boys' night out on Planet Zero. :o
