Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - - - - - Part 41

The first Maze Runner wasn't exactly great to begin with, so I don't know what people were expecting. We aren't talking a Hunger Games-level franchise here.

It depends on what we would consider to be underperforming. I SEE SPIDEY is one of the best box office people on this forum, so I'd certainly be interested in her opinion. But for me personally, given the competition from DC and Marvel and the amount riding on this film, I would consider anything under $900 million worldwide to be a disappointment and anything under $700 million to be a disaster.

Apocalypse is the biggest weapon Fox has left. If they can't get up around or surpass the billion dollar mark with him or at least a big increase over what DOFP earned, Fox is going to have real problems with the franchise moving forward as it probably means the audience is tapped out.

I don't think it's a question of whether or not the audience for the X-Men films are tapped out. The fact that a film featuring the return of the very popular OT cast, Hugh Jackman and Sentinels didn't increase the audience from TLS tells us they aren't making any new X-Men fans. All the growth in DOFP was international, and I'm not sure next summer's film, which is relying heavily on young actors in recast roles, will see any additional growth.

I think a return within 10% up or down from DOFP would be a solid BO result and give FOX confidence to move forward with the series. A drop of 20% or higher and they may be making another call to the Mouse.

On the whole Fox having a bad year thing...

Looks like Scorch Trials is getting less positive early reception than some anticipated. It's still early, but it's only sitting at 55% on RT. I remember when people told me Fox was so different than they were in 2009, and that a year like that couldn't happen again...

I suspect Scorch Trials will be somewhat critic proof, somewhat like Twilight and other young adult novel translations, but you're right Fox is having a terrible year, and their stock has tanked.

I guess if the budget is only around $34M like the last one I don't see this sequel being a flop financially. Still it wont get any $upport from me. I'll just wait for Netflix or Amazon Prime.

I'd bet that even with the Disney film opposite, Apocalypse will still reach 850 million + WW. Without it as an obstacle I think a billion would be a realistic possibility. It will the film that really pays off on the strong reception to DOFP.

Honestly, I seriously doubt it will do a billion dollars, or even close. Not with them losing all the "old trilogy" actors other than Hugh Jackman. If I had to make a guess now, I'd say "about the same as DOFP", assuming its good quality.

I heard the first half pretty much went the way the Director wanted, explaining why the 2nd one was such a mess, but i kinda felt like the second half would have made a decent premise for the whole movie:
Some months ago a voyage went wrong and a group of 4 friends got powers, the leader of them ran away and the military want to use the other 3. They eventualy have to reunite in order to explore the dimension that gave them powers, which will eventualy lead into something that will threat the world.

In this ase you could replace Doom with Annihilus, withthe first 30-40 minutes being about getting to know these characters, their powers, dynamic and them reuniting to go back to the N-Zone. Then you could have some 40 minutes on the N-Zone letting the cinematographer and visual effect team go wild with the potential for "spectacle" and you go back to earth for the finale. You would also be able to skip the origin and sow it in flashbacks and exposition, while you would know about the characters in a more dynamic way as the lot unfolds.

I like your premise but I still feel that Reed shouldn't have escaped and left Ben especially. Plus if he is still on screen we can have a better chance of seeing his leadership skills and intelligence.

Looks like Kate Mara has been typecast as "girl in front of computer" ;)

Toby Kebell should've had the Matt Damon role and been typecast as the astronaut stranded alone on a harsh planet and presumed dead. :o

Matt Damon also had this role in
Interstellar. :woot:

My guess was that he was still trying to understand what happened and looking for a cure, though it should have been told in the film itself.

It's real. She apparently also confirmed that she hasn't even seen it (theatrical cut or mythical unicorn Trank cut).

The mythical unicorn Trank cut would've gotten 105% on Rotten Tomatoes and had an opening weekend Box Office of a billion dollars.

Trank just likes to blow his own horn regarding the unicorn cut. :o

Luckily for Mara and the rest of the cast, aside from fanboys, most of the GA aren't even gonna know or care she was in it . The film is a huge disappointment, but its not a mainstream high profile FUBUR like Batman and Robin was back in the day, which left a stain on everyone involved .

Its already been forgotten by the mainstream anyway, so the cast can just right it off as a bad experience and go on to better things.
