Yes but they also have to release a product that is complete. According to CNN filming was behind schedule and only 50% of shooting was complete, the film may not be salvageable no matter how much editing and CGI stuff they add. At the end of the day all they'll end up doing is ruining the franchise completely all in the name of getting Walker in there somehow. If the easiest solution is to write it off and start again they will do so.
Sources say that Fast 7's production was organized to film the more conversational elements of the movie first and the action sequences later in order to ease director James Wan (who is taking over the franchise from Justin Lin) into the big-budget filmmaking process. In January, Walker and the rest of the Fast 7 team were scheduled to travel to Abu Dhabi to film additional scenes, including a major action sequence that was set to open the film.
That may be so. But 50% complete could mean a lot of things. That other 50% doesn't necessarily involve Paul Walker or at least not fully. There was another article that made mention that most of the acting parts were finished first and the action would be shot later. That could mean a lot of second unit stunt work in that 50%.
But who knows. Even the filmmakers don't know at this point what's going to happen which is why they've delayed any decision until at the earliest next month.
I'd rather have an untouched version of the film as much as possible. For god's sake, they continuously use CGI for the smallest things that can be done practically, why can't they do CGI trickery? The technology is there, the only thing is Universal going to invest in it? That's the big question.
PS: Any of you read that story that's being passed around on social networks of how to do the Fast 7 ending to honor Paul?
Universal has alresdy stated they do not want to use cgi to insert paul walker into any scenes he did not film. I guess they feel it would be disingenuous.
Seems like they were closer than some articles suggested.

Vin and I are so east coast-meets-west coast, and we have different approaches to life. We found a respect for one another but we were such opposite ends of the spectrum. The reason why it's worked is because we are so different.
I don't know if we necessarily found a stride together because there are certain days I still want to crack him in the head! But he looks at me and there are days he wants to crack me in the head too. Then there are times he'll look at me and say, 'Man, I wish I could be more like you,' and I'm like, 'F**ker, I wish I could be more like you!'
Did you and Paul Walker become tight off-screen after "2 Fast 2 Furious"?
Absolutely. We became friends before we shot, while we were shooting and after. I love Paul. He fought to bring me back to the franchise. Other people didn't want me back for whatever their reasons are, but Paul fought to get me back.
I think Walker was the closest to Tyrese.
So sad...Paul Walker III gives praise to his sons Fast & Furious costars, including Vin Diesel, Tyrese and Michelle Rodriguez. Hear why he calls them family.

I watched the original film and Into the Blue yesterday. Walker showed so much charisma in that first film. I enjoyed both of them. I'm gonna watch Fast Five sometime today.
t:Having watched the series up to part 5 yesterday, I really think now in hindsight that Fast Five was the perfect ending to the series. The sixth was really good as well but under these circumstances I don't see how part 7 can work now that they have to modify the original idea. Such a shame.
