I heard a rumor that this one was really supposed to be Walker's story, like after Fast 4 it kinda moved into more Dom/an ensemble but this one was supposed to put the focus back on Brian.
Anybody know if there was any truth to this?
I think there were early rumors before Paul died that Kurt Russell was supposed to be Brian's father in this film. So I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

I don't know anything for sure, but that would make sense. At the beginning of the film there seemed to be a focus on Brian being a father and husband, and stepping away from the game. They really lost focus on that, and there wasn't much dialog from Paul in the film, so he must have barely started production when he died.

I remember that, too.

Damn

I always thought, while I liked Fast 5,6,7 that they should've given Brian more to do other than just be second fiddle to Dom

I think that goes for Paul Walker in general. He wasn't a bad actor he was just never given anything to do other than be the generic guy. He was really good in Running Scared, and up until his death that was the only movie I remember a filmmaker gave him anything of substance

The revised estimate for Furious 7 is 146.5 million, up from 143.6 million.

Excellent. I figured with Easter it was going to be tough to make it to $150M that everyone was predicting on Friday, but this thing completely outperformed expectations, showing how loved Paul Walker was among the fans. Even though the movie isn't as good as the last few installments, people really care about these characters.

I immagine it will be a larger than normal drop next week although it received a "A" Cinemascore rating and mostly positive reviews. I think the general feeling among the fans is "great send off for Paul, not a great F&F film".

However at $146 even with a bottom 1.7 multiplier it will be the higest grossing film in the franchise. I expect it to do better than that, probably around 2.0. So I'll say 285M domestic and 650M WW. might have a punchers chance at a billion if everything holds on but 900+ M is a great mark for the franchise.

All of the Furious movies after Drift have been very front loaded but none have gotten below a 2.0 multiplier. I don't see that happening as it has no competition until May 1. I think at best it gets a 2.3 and at worst a 2.03 or something.

He was really good in the movie Hours, IMO. One of his best works.

Wow actually youre kinda of right. I didn't even think of that

Didn't Roman basically point that out in the movie at one point? They were going up against their evil counterparts?

It can't be a coincidence that they also showed a character watching the old Incredible Hulk show and at the end,
Dom basically does the Hulk stomp to break the floor.

I remember reading rumors that this film and the next was supposed to be more Brian-heavy, especially compared to how he had been used in the previous films.

I'm not sure about the rumors of Russel being his father, but Diesel has said he's coming back for the next one. Also, there's the fact that they're going to NYC for the next one. I'm not sure if this is significant with Russel possibly playing his father if it somehow ties into the short that shows how Brian ends up in Miami after the first film. There's a moment where he looks at the NYC sign while driving. Probably just a coincidence, though...

They nailed that In Memoriam. :waa: Best one Ive ever seen in a film. I like how Vin pretty much broke the fourth wall and spoke about Paul and not just Brian. And Brian turning off and going his separate way into the sunset was just heartbreaking.

I know this wont be the last one, not with that box office, but its the perfect ending to the whole series. The Team's debts are settled and everyone is happy. WB would be showing a lot of class if theyd just let this be it. Id miss all the fun i have watching a new F&F, but damn that was a perfect ending!

As far as where this film stands, its definitely my favorite. Imo Wan has a lot better handle on te more ridiculous aspects of this franchise and without question he handlded the action superbly. He used the flipping camera trick one time to much, but he wasnt afraid to let the camera move and be in more dynamic places. But like I said, the ridiculous stuff just seemed more palatable this ime around than it did in Furious 6.

Oh and Hobbes was a BAMF! I love The Rock and what Wan did with him. The "Daddy's gotta go to work." is so much better and sweeter in context. And him taking out the [blackout]Predator with an ambulance and double tapping it.[/blackout]:funny: [blackout]"Uh, I think someone just double-tapped our drone."[/blackout]:lmao:

The audience I was with loved it. They were clapping, laughing, cheering, and crying. At the end when "For Paul" came on the screen the aufience stood up and cheered and clapped.

In terms of enjoyment and the experience I have to give it a 10/10, and yes, I know its not a perfect film, but for my money it was a 10/10 experience.

He deserved an Oscar when [BLACKOUT]he flexed and his cast broke apart[/BLACKOUT].

If you were to tell me in 2001 that this franchise would span seven films with the seventh making nearly 400 million worldwide on opening weekend, I'd slap you and then spit on you.

Yeah, after 2F2F (which honestly felt like a TV movie) you would have thought this franchise was done. Once they got the original crew back it started going back uphill.

Yeah I head about this early rumour that Kurt was going to play Paul's father or revealed to be his father in the movie.

Wouldn't be surprised if in the next movie they confirmed that in a scene or something.

Saw this opening night. Thought it was fun, though I still preferred 5 and 6 a tad more.

And that ending :waa:.

The official video for See You Again awakes feelings I didn't even know I had. They really nailed the landing on the tribute to Paul.

Best one liner ever: "You know the thing about street fights?"

*stomps ground*

"The Streets ALWAYS win."

I thought I would get choked up at the last tribute for him like others mentioned but I surprisingly didn't. I just admired the effort they put into it, I really enjoyed it.

I can't imagine how tough it was for Vin to film that last scene though, or to watch it in it's finished form.
