Since "what's a trilogy" was brought up several pages ago....
I think "The Fast and Furious", "Fast & Furious", and "Fast 5" can sort of be a trilogy. In this trilogy, they are more street racers robbing and running from law enforcement. The franchise with the original crew could have easily finished in Fast 5 if they didn't go with the Letty return storyline.
One thing to note, at the end of Toyko Drift when Dom and Sean are about to race. Dom is acting all relaxed and says "I got nothing but time". This is why I think the franchise with the original crew could have ended with Fast 5. Sean already avenged Han's death. Dom just robs a big drug lord, gots money and a nice house on a beach, he's got "nothing but time"... But of course things had to take a different direction when they adjusted the story so it was Shaw that killed Han and Letty coming back with amnesia.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Fast 6 and 7, but when I rewatch Tokyo Drift and see one of my favorite scenes ever, it won't be as good because it doesn't make any sense. "You got nothing but time", you are acting all relaxed, beating everyone in Tokyo, yet you are being hunted by Shaw.

"Fast and Furious 6" and "Furious 7" and the upcoming one will be it's own trilogy. These are more over the top with them working with the CIA and FBI.
2 Fast 2 Furious, and Tokyo Drift are sort of standalone movies.
btw, everybody should give Tokyo Drift a chance. It's an amazing movie. The resurrection of the franchise all started here with Justin Lin.
