KenK has explained why some of us like the idea:

"All that does is create tension and drama, which is . . . . a good thing from a storytelling perspective. There have been plenty of stories in film in television where a hero has had to team up with a villain that has caused them immeasurable pain, and their interactions when they're forced to work together can be immensely satisfying for viewers. There would be that initial period where Dom is vehemently against it, and it's certainly justifiable. But at a certain point, it'll become clear that he'll have no choice." - KenK

I understand the story premise of that idea and its been done numerous times with rivals or bitter enemies working together for a common goal or greater threat. To me it just goes against everything that has been built up in these movies regarding the "family" theme when this guy murdered one of the family. That goes beyond personal for Dom. From Shaw's standpoint it may be a little differerent since he really didn't lose anyone. But ultimately it would likely lead up to a predictable betrayal. I see them adding Lucas Black to the team as he has the greatest connection now that Han and Brian are gone. Shaw and Dom working together is really a story direction I'd rather they not go.

See I agree with that. Completely agree with that.
This isn't like Hobbs where honestly he was just doing his job. The Shaws were pure evil

But as I said, wouldn't it be cool to have Statham back?

Yeah, it would be cool.

You have to admire Statham's ability to play the same exact character in every movie and yet somehow making it work. I mean, Deckard Shaw is a murderer and a sociopath, yet somehow, he's exactly like the heroic Lee Christmas (The Expendables) or Frank Martin (The Transporter).

Disagree with how Deckard is like Lee Christmas. In fact, as much as the Expendables movies are meh to me I did like how it was a slightly different role for Statham. Yeah he's still an unstoppable killing machine but at least he had a lot more warmth, charisma, and humor than a lot of Statham's other action roles.

And I have to dispute whether Statham's thing works at all. Before Furious 7 he kinda became a joke for doing to same thing over and over. Have many really cared about his movies that much? Other than The Expendables

The only thing that made Deckard better than all those other ones, to me at least, was that this actually looked like and was a good movie.

Charisma goes a long way. We love Statham for what he is just like we love Schwarzenegger for what he is. Statham has the benefit of a history with stunts and driving.

Statham is a pretty charismatic guy. I wish he would do more non action roles because he was good in them too. The only action film by him that really stuck with me was Crank

Oh man, Crank was awesome. It was completely ludicrous, but in a great way.

Aww man, why did you have to say that? Now I just want a Grand Theft Auto movie.

Seriously, how is it that a lameass game with no story like Need for Speed can get a movie adaptation but something like GTA, which would actually be fun and watchable, will never get a movie?

Oh you know who they should add to the cast of Furious 8? Elsa Pataky? She was such a big part of 5 and was just pushed out after Letty came back. I don't want a love triangle or whatever but she can still kick a**

Idk GTA would be hard to pull off. I actually do think GTA V would make a damn good miniseries but that's just a pipedream

Need for Speed was great. I was really surprised with that movie

I love Statham. He is a good actor, just rarely given any chances to prove it. He even said it in an interview.

You guys should check out one of his recent non action movies, Hummingbird(a.k.a Redemption). It is very good and Statham is quite amazing in it.

If you live in Southe Central Los Angeles it's like GTA every night what with all the gang shootings.

Its funny how fast Dom forgot about Jesse...

This is from THR. I get the feeling the Shaw brother's will be back soon or later.

Insiders say some ensemble veterans have run through their options, so new installments would have to be renegotiated. Ditto for Dwayne Johnson, who joined with Fast Five and whose deals are on a film-by-film basis. (For Furious 7, he shot only 10 days.)

Some of the newer castmembers, including villains, do have options. And Luke Evans, who appears in Furious 7 in a brief nonspeaking scene, is said to have an option with the studio for another movie, though it doesn't have to be a Fast film.

This movie is just stuck in my brain. Saw it on April 2nd and yesterday again. While i find the third act (downtown LA) a bit crazy and not as enjoyable as the rest of the film, the experience is an unforgettable one. Also just watched the BBQ interview with the cast in the backyard of the Toretto house. What a charismatic group of individuals. They are the strength of this franchise.

PS: Great soundtrack too, worthy buy!

Rush! Rush! lol

Man, I had such a thing for Paula Abdul back in the day. She was so hot before she turned into the perpetually stoned Valium addict she was on American Idol.

Glad I'm not the only one who remembers Paula could sing. You would never guess she was sucessful by watching American Idol.

I think the next film will have the Shaw brothers and Helen Mirren as their mother. They left them alive for this. Statham is a decent actor. I never thought after watching Snatch and Lock Stock ... that he would be an action star on the level of Jet Li
