Favorite action sequence in Man of Steel

This wasn't my favorite action scene, but I feel like it's worth mentioning to see if anyone else got chills like I did. During the oil rig scene, that dramatic build up of drums while he's getting everyone into the helicopter and the thing begins to topple over. He rushes over and as soon as he braces it for the copter to fly off that music gets epic "Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, dun dun, dun dun bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan dun, dun dun". That moment made me smile so huge the first time I saw it. It was just a simple moment but the combination of his first heroic act in the movie combined with Zimmer's score was so awesome.
I completely agree, just reading your description of it gives me chills lol!

Awesome! I'm glad some other people really liked it as well. Cavill sells the moment well too as you can see his face and body strain like 'Crap this is really heavy'.

I agree with the Battle of Smallville too. I think it was done so very well and enjoyed every minute of it. As has been mentioned as well, when Faora did that quick zip/zip/zip hit of the army men, that was awesome too. It was so fast and awesome. Great look for what a Flash movie could be like as someone else said.

Another quick little shot I enjoyed as when he and Zod are about to face off in the final battle. Zod knocks Superman face down and instead of standing up, Superman just immediately hovers from his position. So simple, but something I've never really seen done before.

Favorite had to be the you threaten my mother! Anyone who has a mother felt the emotion in that.

I'm generally not a very violent person, but if anyone ever threatened or, god forbid, hurt my mom, all bets are off. :woot:

Not to mention the music in that scene just puts the cherry on top. One of the best Comicbook movie moments ever IMO.

Personally I loved the opening battle/destruction of krypton. It sets the movie off on the perfect foot.

I didn't think the smallville scene was 100% nessecary the way it played out, but it was cool.

The superman vs zod though pretty much rules over everything. How zod strips down his armor and rises, and then they go at it again, so awesome.

yeah because the movie needed a new fight not only metropolis... also the objective was the kal-el ship

I did like the stripping down. To me it seems symbolic of his intellect faltering. At that point, it felt like some stuff was about to go down. But yes, delete the tentacle thing, trim the Metropolis fight, and leave the Smallville one. :)

Even after a third viewing, I'm still not sure if the Smallville fight is better or the Metropolis fight. Metropolis had a much grander scale, but I think the Smallville fight had a greater atmosphere.

^ I thought the Smallville fight had more of a humanity to it. You felt that there were people there worth fighting for. In Metropolis, the people seem to stay away from buildings as they collapse. Or so you hope

The way all the buildings collapse none of the rubble actually touched the people, like Jenny, so after the fight they all popped out of it like they were moles. Zero casualties.

Cool shot. I think someone actually listened to our complaints, because in the theater, I saw the beautiful skyline from trailer 2. It's more iconic that way :)

Overall, it didn't help too much. Their battle still mainly had that sort of dim, grey lighting to it. I would have greatly preferred if the scene overall had more of the rich sunset lighting seen in the "maybe" scene. The final fight with Zod came off too tonally dark for my taste in largely part because of the very grey lighting.

The part when Superman is about to destroy the world engine, and Henry´s face metamorphs in Chris Reeve´s, all while we listen the last minute and a half of the track "Terraforming".

Everything Faora did stole this movie right from under Superman's feet.

I'm still surprised that that set piece was met with such mixed response in this thread. I'm not big on the cartoony action, but that scene made me feel like a little kid again. Superman fighting and flying around a giant robot or alien tentacle monster is an iconic, recurring motiff on the comics and animated adaptations, but have never been brought to life before on the big screen in live action. The only way it could have been better was if Supes pulled off an inventive flying maneuvre causing the the World Engine to impale itself with its tentacles. Also, the scene was incredibly necessary to break up the repetitiveness of the fistfights in Smallville and Metropolis.

It is true. it reminded me a little of Mr Incredible fighting that round robot on that island.

anyway, for me it was the most dramatic moment: jenny and Perry and Lombard are going to die, the plan is about to fail... plus, the face of Chris Reeve... WOW

You know, I've been trying to decide this and... I just don't know!

Especially since a lot of them really blend together.

Like, the whole Battle of Smallville. What counts as a moment - a specific part of it, or the whole thing?

I'm leaning towards my favorite being the final battle. From the moment after Zod ends his final speech and charges Superman, straight through to the Lois/Superman embrace after the battle has ended.

I think the one thing Superman Returns did better than any other - MoS or any Reeve film or all of Smallville and Lois & Clark - was the plane rescue scene. That scene was just perfect, IMHO. A great Superman show action piece. A shame the whole film around it wasn't as good. Hope we get a scene like it (obviously not a plane rescue, but something) in the next movie. A specific determined save-the-day scene.

The Smallville battle is definitely my favorite. For one, it's the first payoff we get to setting up all these superpowered beings against each other, and I think the visuals of it completely catch the audience off-guard. Lots of "Holy s***" moments because we had no idea before this what it would look like they start to go at each other. I also like it because of everything Faora does, including the way it sets up her little rivalry with Hardy. And the, "this man is not our enemy" scene is a great resolution. That whole sequence was just perfect to me.

Smallville fight is Perfect. the Faora fight was brutal and she was a bigger threat. I thought the climax fight was enjoyable but a bit too much I also thought the brief Jor-el vs Zod was amazingly choreographed.

My favorite action sequence was the one that starts at the beginning of the movie and doesn't end till the credits role :P

:D MOST definitately my man AMEN!!!

I absolutely loved the action in this film. I have been waiting for a Superman movie just like this since I was a boy. I actually wished it came out when I was a boy lol I bet I would have literally crapped my pants (now that I'm more of an 'adult' I am able to control my bladder and bowels a little bit better ;) )

I loved how the Kryptonian villians/troops faced off against the squad of army soldiers that was SO ****ing cool. The Kyrpton action sequences were just incredible, can you get much cooler than Jor-El just kicking all kinds of amounts of ass or what?

Now onto the big muscular action figure in the beautiful red and blue costume-Kal-El himself, Superman. I get that they had to make him get his ass kicked a bunch of times because he is not necessarily skilled in the art of combat, but the fact he does get the hang of it as the movie progresses and there are just fist fights, explosions and action galore make me agree with the post I quoted above. My favorite was A-L-L of it!

:super:

Yeah. When his face morphed into Reeve, I'm like "heck yeah!"

I don't understand what you guys mean his face morphed into Chris Reeve? I don't recall that...was that something you guys are seeing, or something the filmmakers consciously put in or...?

Me ams confooosed :S
