Favorite action sequence in Man of Steel

I don't understand what you guys mean his face morphed into Chris Reeve? I don't recall that...was that something you guys are seeing, or something the filmmakers consciously put in or...?

Me ams confooosed :S

The beam of light shining on Kal-El from the World Engine as he looks up and is about to charge at it. The Indian Ocean sequence.

Yup. Didn't care for all the tentacle action but that was a great shot.

They insisted on not letting me put in my spider for the third act. At least I have a polar bear for Braniac to kill in the sequels-

Yeah...I was specifically looking for that in that part of the scene on my second viewing, and I honestly think you guys were seeing things. That was all Cavill's face - he just happened to resemble Reeve a little at that angle, nothing more, imo.

Hated the tentacle scene. That was the only action sequence that didn't work for me at all.

And boring.

yes. it's funny how people are so into a fight scene almost completely lacking in any real originality or character moments.

just a long boring punch fest with no character moments to really make you care or feel a nerdgasm.

compare this to the final Avengers battle.
Was there anything in the final MOS battle to compare with:

1. Ironman being thrown out of a window, putting the suit on mid air and flying back up to get some payback for Coulson.
2. The epic nerdgasm "i'm always angry" moment.
3. another nerdgasm moment when the full team assembles in the spinning shot
4. cap giving out his orders capping it off with "And Hulk....SMASH!"
5. The EPIC continuous shot of the entire team working as one.
6. Hulk punching Thor
7. Loki catching Hawkeyes arrow only to be pwned by the arrow being explosive
8. Hulk smashing Loki
9. IM making the suicide play and being saved by Hulk

There was simply NOTHING in the final MOS battle that compared to these moments. with that said the best action scene by far was the smallville battle.

In terms of spectacle MOS clobbers TA. But I actually agree with you on the TA final battle. There's a sense of character that fuels the action. The Metropolis battle is pretty much just a punch fest.

Wow...

Ahhh ok, thanks fellas/all who answered.

I don't personally see Reeve but that's just me. I do love that scene where Jor-El was like "You can save them...you can save all of them." and Superman charges at Earth...so awesome!

I am also really surprised at the controversy/conflicted reviews of that Superman Vs. The World Machine tentacle thing! I loved that scene just as much as any other action scene in the film! It was so epic when Superman finally got uber pissed and used all of his strength the charge up the beam and destroy it.

Also a question if anyone can answer? What WAS that World Machine thing?

So Zod got that from that Kryptonian outpost and put it in the Black Zero right? Then the Black Zero kept pounding up and down 'terraforming' Metropololis, or..the world as it were? That other tentacle thing was the power source for what the Black Zero was doing or..? Sorry I was just kind of unclear about that. I do know that Zod wanted to turn Earth INTO Krypton but I'm just unsure how he was doing it using those two machines/ships. Pretty cool though nevertheless.

And the tentacles felt unnecessary, since its turning the area into Krypton Superman would've been weakend the closer he got to it since its was established he loses his power in that type of atmosphere.

The World Machine simply needed Black Zero, working in tandem to terraform Earth. So if one goes down the other can't continue, that's how I saw it.

It's used to transform Earth into a Krypton-like planet to wipe out the entire human race. Essentially, a "terraforming" engine.

My favorite action moment:
Colonel Nathan Hardy unloading all his firearms into Faora-UI with no effect then pulling out a knife knowing full well that she is going to kill him. No running. Not showing fear. Just a military man doing his duty.

Feora pulling a knife on him as a sign of respect for him being military like she is and his possible bravery then spouting out probably the most iconic line of the movie and rushing the Colonel to have Superman slam into her and saving the Colonel literally the last second

I do not believe anything in the sequels will EVER top that moment for me.

Marvel bias much I mean damn.

it's not Marvel bias it's quality action bias. especially when that quality action is punctuated by great character moments.

name some great character moments between superman and zod during that final battle that can compare with what I pointed out in TA.

Oh ok I think I see now..probably shouldn't overthink it anyways lol it's just badass any which way you slice it.

And you know something? I totally respect people not liking the tentacles but personally? As I said before, I loved them, loved the whole sequence. I didn't even think twice about it, I was just ecstatic and elated that there was action in this film to the degree there was...it was just spectacular. I'm not some 'action crazed junkie who hates story' or anything lol (although I did love the story in this, I thought it was perfect) it's just that when it comes to the particular character of Superman, personally? I find he hasn't been done justice in feature films...like...at all. So if the powers that be want to have a Superman Vs. a giant powerful terraforming alien robot with massive deadly tentacles? FUUUUUUCK IIIIIITTT!!! :D I'm ALL for it!!!

Also with regards to the Kryptonian atmosphere thing, perhaps the atmosphere wasn't FULL on Krypton hence why Superman took a little longer to defeat it or find/muster all the strength he needed to destroy it.

I totally agree on the scene with Colonel hardy and Faora, sweet jeezus that scene was just too friggin' awesome. The way he used a sub machine gun, then a hand gun and then that *****in' SCHWINK sound when the knives came out with a 'lets dance' attitude on the both of them...Superman coming in at the last second saving him and tackling Faora was just icing on the cake :D

:super:

It was ment for the people that love the old fleischer superman cartoons. They where trying to recreate a scenario like they used to have in thoughs cartoon.

Zod admitting that he has no purpose anymore as he was bred to make sure Krypton survived for good or ill. Forcing Superman's hand in what needed to be done IS a great character moment. Very well written even if you hate it.

Most of what you listed is fan wank fun but no real depth. To say that the fight was just them trading blows mean you did not pay attention to what you were watching as they were talking to each other as they fought.

I agree with that comparison (and I've seen and love the Fleischer cartoons), but that doesn't make me like the tentacles any better.

Last fight with Zod. Looove when the camera goes side-by-side with them in third person when they're airborne. It only happens briefly but SUCH a cool visual. I was geeking out.
