"Feel the Bern": The BERNIE SANDERS Thread - Part 2

I don't see a reason for him to stop fighting. His base is still enthusiastic enough and he's probably already burned all the bridges that were there for the burning. And as you say, the polls have been weird this time around, so may as well stick it.

Run, Bernie, run.

He cant win the nomination. After tomorrow there is a single democrat primary left. A primary that is essentially ignored. A primary that may not even have him on the ballot. And unless he wins by a shocking majority tomorrow he will have less than a snowball's chance in hell of swaying any delegates at the convention. So why should he not concede after tomorrow?

Bernie's voter base. They're still heckling; in L.A. they were at a rally where Bill was speaking and they got a little rowdy. Just quitting out of the blue, especially after Bill said they'd be toast, would probably make it harder for Hillary to get them into her camp.

Bernie basically needs to defuse the situation, that being his voter base.

The only state that fits that description is Michigan. Considering that it had an uncommitted option which gain 40% of the vote, it really cant' be argued that Clinton's win is invalid or that Obama voters supported her.

Obama didn't hit the magic number in pledged delegates so I'm not sure what you're taking about.
neither did Hillary in this election:)

Obama hit the number with help from super delegates.

But my point was, and I hope I was right, is that this is all theater. Bernie says she has to earn the votes of his supporters. he makes demands. The Democratic Party then meets his demands. then he says the Democratic party met his demands. Then he says "Hillary earned out support and our respect."

That was my angle. I'm less sure of it than a week ago. I'm now nervous that maybe Bernie is just stabbing me in the back.

After tomorrow he wont need to quit. It will be over. All he needs to do is officially concede defeat. If his supporters dont understand the simple fact that after tomorrow the primaries are over then they are idiots.*

As long as Bernie is fighting Hillary and degrading her and making his clueless followers believe he can win he isnt diffusing the situation. He is making it worse.

Its time for him to concede defeat. Tell his followers he cant win and that its time they all unite to stop Trump.

*Not all those who like Bernie are idiots. Just wanted to say that so no one would think I consider all his admirers and supporters to be idiots.

Sooner than expected. The AP is reporting that Clinton crossed the magic number tonight. The race is officially over and she is now the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

Now I am sure that this is the point where Sanders's campaign will release a statement babbling about the will of the people and how the super delegates can change their mind and should wait until the people have spoken until they lock in votes, blah, blah, blah, typical Sanders, holier than thou, self-contradictory rambling...but the race is over.

Hillary Clinton has won a majority of the states, she has won a majority of the pledged delegates, she has won a majority of the popular vote. There is no mathematical way for Sanders to catch her in any category. The people have spoken; she has won and he has lost. If he wants to respect the will of the people, he ought to respect their decision and concede tonight.

What aspect makes you nervous?

Survey Monkey is an internet poll, and Sanders would do better in an internet poll simply because of his more radical left POV.

These polls are not "likely voters" or even "registered voters" they are anyone and everyone.

As expected:

In a statement, Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said it was “unfortunate” that the AP and other outlets are counting unpledged delegates ahead of the convention, and said the Sanders campaign would continue to work to convince those delegates that “Bernie is by far the strongest candidate against Donald Trump.”

“It is unfortunate that the media, in a rush to judgement, are ignoring the Democratic National Committee’s clear statement that it is wrong to count the votes of superdelegates before they actually vote at the convention this summer,” he said. “Secretary Clinton does not have and will not have the requisite number of pledged delegates to secure the nomination. She will be dependent on superdelegates who do not vote until July 25 and who can change their minds between now and then. They include more than 400 superdelegates who endorsed Secretary Clinton 10 months before the first caucuses and primaries and long before any other candidate was in the race.”

As expected:

He's putting himself in a box where he will be forced to stay in until the convention, just because he has made such a spectacle of it. He is too egotistical to drop out now. Hopefully the media starts ignoring him and starts covering the real nominee.

And now the Bernouts are saying that AP and other news station reporting Hillary has the required number of delegates is an underhanded tactic and more cheating by Hillary.

 I swear to god the stupidity and the victim complex these sore losers have is really irritating the ever living **** out of me.

I want the media and Party to excommunicate him entirely and to end this **** show, but the Bernouts will just say its another "tactic" by Hillary and cheating.

A year ago I never would have thought I would dislike Bernie this much, but I legitimately hate the man for what he has done and for the BS and the people he has dragged onto the Democrat Party's doorstep. He's like a deadbeat worthless uncle that arrived unannounced, threw a party with his moronic friends, trashed the house, and **** in the pool.

I just want him to slink back to Vermont so I don't have to listen to him anymore. I don't need him to run third-party or primary Clinton in 2020. Just go away. You're just not the one.

I don't think it's stupidity on part of Bernie supporters so much as a simple refusal to accept the outcome. A conspiracy scenario is better than the stark truth.

He doesn't have to be elected to make a difference. I think this is one thing people are forgetting - he's still in it because he's got many people excited by his ideas and ways of thinking about the future of politics and our countries' principles and priorities. He has started a movement and a shift in thought about what our government should be about and how it should run.

A pessimist will certainly think that he's just being selfish in staying in it, but (while I'm sure a part of him IS) I just don't think he sees it that way. He's been saying this and fighting for this **** for 40 years, it's not like it's some far fetched idea that he actually really wants to keep the conversation going as to which direction this country heads in the near future, and that he thinks by prolonging the discussion, the better chance we have of actually getting there sooner rather than later.

The convention is not his own personal soapbox that he can use for attention and to promote his own brand. It is for formally deciding and announcing the Democrat nominee. Hillary is the nominee. Its her and her goals and ideas that the party will be promoting. Not Bernie's.

Bernie is free to continue his movement. At other places, and on his own time and on his own soapbox. Not at the ****ing Democrat convention.

I like Bernie but his failure would set back progressives and socialist 100 years.

It's not worth the risk. I'll take a pragmatic Hillary doing a boring and underwhelming job any day of the week.

I watched Maddow tonight. Apparently Sanders agreed with the call when it was made for Obama. So what changed Bernie?

Bernies complete denial of reality is the reason he's lost my support. There is no cheating going on. He's just not winning. It happens. I'm frankly disgusted by Bernie supporters and Bernie himself for this psychotic push against Clinton. If Sanders doesn't wrangle his crowd, concede and throw his weight behind Clinton then I sincerely fear we'll see Trump as our next president.

"Nice convention you got there. It'd be a shame if something happened to it. Like Nevada."

There is no contested convention it's not going to a second ballot. Most unbound establishment delegates haven't been listening to his crap and aren't going to flip to him and anoint him god emperor while shunning the results of the election contests, Clinton's supporters, and Clinton herself.

He can be an old manbaby about it though or he can get out of the way.
