Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata has confirmed the game’s recently announced Season Pass is not included in the Ultimate Collector’s Edition during a fan gathering held at Gamescom.

While answering fans’ questions, Tabata also confirmed no additional Collector’s Editions will be made available even though the game has been delayed until November. “We looked into making more UCE but we were told we still can’t,” he stated (via Twitter). The Square Enix Online Store exclusive costs $269.99 and is currently listed as sold out.

The Season Pass will be bundled in the Digital Premium Edition being sold on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Games Store for $84.99. Presently, the Season Pass is not listed as being included in the physical Deluxe Edition available at retail for $89.99.

In another interview earlier today, Tabata reiterated the Season Pass includes supplemental content that is not being worked on until after the main game is complete. “We haven’t started the full development work on the DLC yet. We’re obviously still very much concentrating on getting the main game out there.”

Final Fantasy XV is now expected to release on November 29, 2016.

RPG features both open world and linear progression.

FFXV-Tabata-Fami_08-26-16.jpg

Final Fantasy XV
director Hajime Tabata confirmed new details about the upcoming RPG in a new interview with Famitsu.

First, Tabata said that the six currently announced downloadable add-ons, which are part of the Final Fantasy XV Season Pass, won’t make up the entirety of the game’s downloadable content.

“That’s not everything,” Tabata said. “Those are what we’ve announced today, something we’ve decided that we’ll certainly do.”

Famitsu followed up asking if any new downloadable content would require an additional purchase outside the Season Pass.

Tabata answered, “If we decide to make downloadable content outside of the Season Pass we’re currently selling, then that will be the case. Although there’s a lot right now that isn’t clear.”

Famitsu then asked if they plan to add costume downloadable content.
“Of course,” Tabata responded. “But not just costumes, we also plan to increase the cooking repertoire. Although right now the top priority is polishing the main game. Once we can be finished with that, I think we can get up to speed on downloadable content and VR content. And by the way, the VR content is different from the ‘Episode’ downloadable content we announced with the Season Pass.”

Tabata further clarified the “Episode Prompto” add-on part of the Season Pass is different from the PlayStation VR demo showcased at E3, which starred Prompto.

Finally, Tabata also discussed a bit about the game’s structure.
“For Final Fantasy XV, we’ve put in both open world parts and linear parts to make up the game’s full structure,” Tabata said. “The first half is a continuous open world, but the second half is story-driven and progresses linearly.

By doing this, the entire game is tightened so that the open world doesn’t get tiring, and so that you can also get a taste of traditional Final Fantasy progression. If we assume you’ll play only the main routes of the first and second halves, it’ll take about 40 to 50 hours.”

Final Fantasy XV is due out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 29.

Square Enix has announced a Final Fantasy XV Live concert will be held at Abbey Road Studios on September 7, 2016. Abbey Road Studios is where artists like The Beatles and Pink Floyd have famously recorded their albums. Film scores have also been recorded at the studio, including The Lord of The Rings and Skyfall. Shimomura discusses the event in a statement to the press. “With so many iconic recordings taking place here over the years, performing the music for Final Fantasy XV in the very same recording studio is a huge honor for me and for everyone involved,” Shimomura shares.

“I am excited to be able to collaborate with Abbey Road Studios for this performance and to share the music of Final Fantasy XV with everyone. I hope that music and videogame fans around the world can tune-in and join me for this incredible experience.”

It has been confirmed via Twitter that tickets to attend the concert in person will not be made available for purchase, but Abbey Road Studios is holding a contest to give away 10 pairs of tickets to the event.

Final Fantasy XV Director On The Game’s Magic System. August 30, 2016 . 6:00pm

Director Hajime Tabata talks about the magic system, car customization, and clothing options in Final Fantasy XV during a recent interview at Gamescom.

9 comments Read >

Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata answers questions about how the magic system works in an interview at Gamescom with PlayStation Access. He also goes on to discuss the clothing and car customization options in the game.

Regarding the magic system, Tabata shares his vision of how wielding magic should feel to players of Final Fantasy XV. “We really wanted it to feel as though [magic] is part of the physics of this world and is a real physical phenomenon as well as being this strange and mysterious energy, but that it really felt part of the game world,” Tabata explains. “The design of the magic is very much based on the idea that in order to make something impactful or impressive it shouldn’t be just about having lots of different spells available. So we limited it down to a smaller number of well designed, individual ones and then added a system where the player could craft and change and tweak all the capabilities of all these spells to their own liking.”

Tabata continues, “Basically you put together combinations of different magics and you can adjust it finely by adding certain items. The whole idea of the system is that there are no failures; whatever you create is going to have some kind of bonus effect to the magic. Different people can create their own favorite combinations, so there’s a lot you can get from that.”

Final Fantasy XV Is Only Open World In The First Half While The Second Half Goes Linear . August 26, 2016 . 12:55am

During a recent interview with Famitsu, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata answered a few questions about the upcoming RPG and talked a bit about how it won’t entirely be an open-world title.

Famitsu got to play up to chapter 3 of Final Fantasy XV and asked Tabata about how far into the entire game is that.

“I believe it covers about 15% or so. The chapters go from 0 to 15,” answered Tabata.

With all the vast content in mind from just the first three chapters alone, Famitsu asks if it’ll be like that from the start up until the very last chapter.

“The entire game structure for Final Fantasy XV consists of both open-world and linear parts,” said Tabata. “The first half keeps going as an open-world, but the story in the second half’s is led by a linear path. That way, you won’t get bored of an open-world as the rest of the game tightens, so we made it in a way that you’ll also get to advance through it as you have in conventional Final Fantasy games. If you play through the first half and only the main route of the second half, I believe the estimated play-time sits at around 40 to 50 hours.”

Final Fantasy XV releases worldwide on November 29, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Final Fantasy XV Plans For More DLC After The Six Announced, Won’t Be Covered By Season Pass. August 26, 2016 . 1:30am

We previously got a look at the six DLCs that were revealed for Final Fantasy XV, which includes episodes that make Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto playable. In an interview with Famitsu, director Hajime Tabata shared more on DLC plans.

Square Enix announced the six DLCs along with a Season Pass the other day. Famitsu asks if the production for those DLCs is currently being held off for the time being.

“Yes, that’s right. And of course, we’ve already planned out the DLCs,” said Tabata. “We’re currently rearranging the schedule for everything to go along with the delay of the main game, so I can’t say much more in detail for now.”

Famitsu asks if the six DLC is all we’re getting as far as DLC goes.

“That won’t be all,” answered Tabata. “The ones that we’ve announced are the ones were decided that we’ll certainly do.”

With the Season Pass covering the six DLC that were announced the other day, Famitsu asks if that means those who purchase the Season Pass will need to separately purchase any future DLC beyond the initial six.

“Yes. Should we decide on DLC that isn’t included in the Season Pass that is currently selling, then that’s how it’ll be. Although there are still many parts that are uncertain,” said Tabata.

Famitsu shared their thoughts on the matter saying they feel that many have already made the purchase, so having an option to upgrade later might be nice. They then ask about the alternate costumes we got to see recently and if there are plans to add more via DLC.

“But of course. not only costumes, but we also plan on increasing the cooking repertoire as well,” shared Tabata. “That said, our priority is to polish up the main game for the time being. Once we get some wiggle room, then I believe we’ll get to seriously work on development for DLC and VR content. And by the way, the Season Pass, and the episodic DLC that were announced along with, are different from the VR content.

Famitsu mentioned that they thought the VR content from E3, featuring Prompto, would be his DLC episode after hearing about it.

“Ah yes. What was shown at E3 was just something for VR, and it’ll be separate from the upcoming DLC,” said Tabata.

Final Fantasy XV releases worldwide on November 29, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check our 274 comments for some details from Tabata on how the game will be open-world in the first half and linear in the second.

so, I watched Kingsglaive last night.

It was good, though the ending left a little to be desired.

It did get me more interested in the world and lore of XV, and it was nice to see the events directly leading up to the start of the game.

however, one thing that really bugged me was Luna's design - specifically her nose. Her character design in Glaive just felt "off" and didn't really look like her counterpart in the game. Other characters, like Regis and Ardyn, looked fairly close to their game versions. But Luna just looked off throughout the whole movie and that kind of distracted me whenever she was on screen. lol

also, I am a bit worried by all her talk of how she [BLACKOUT]doesn't fear death. blah. blah. blah.[/BLACKOUT]

The various plot leaks for the game that have made their way to the net, whether or not they are true, tend to be consistent with Luna dying in the game. I really hope that isn't the case. :(

A lot of new gameplay from Final Fantasy XV was featured during a panel at this year’s PAX West in Seattle, Washington.

You can watch the whole recording from the panel in the video below. The gameplay starts at about the 24:30 mark.

[YT]Z_OF7xFFaG0[/YT]
The gameplay begins with Noctis and company driving to the Balouve Mines, a dangerous sidequest dungeon you can enter at any point during the game. Goblins found inside the mine are quite crafty and will steal potions from you. If brought to low health for long enough, they may even use the stolen potions to heal themselves, rendering you unable to get the items back.

Additionally, the driving system in the game has been improved upon. Now, you will be able to even drive on the incorrect side of the road and crash into things, causing physical damage to the car.

The footage also gives us a look at Final Fantasy XV’s magic crafting system, which will let you mix and match elemental spells such as fire, ice, and thunder to create more spells. In addition, you can even add potions to these spells, imbuing the spell with an additional heal effect.

Next, we get a look at more Chocobo racing and then a fight with a magitek armor inside a Niflheim base.

Final Fantasy XV will release worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 29th, 2016.

Final Fantasy XV Director On Improvements, The Delay, And Linear Part Of The Game . September 5, 2016 . 8:00am

In a recent interview,
Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata discussed the game’s 2-month delay as well
as what kind of improvements we can expect to see in the finished product.

142 comments Read >
DualShockers recently got the opportunity to sit down with Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata for an interview, during which they discussed the game’s 2-month delay, what kind of improvements we can expect to see in the finished product, as well as how and when the game becomes more linear towards the end. [Thanks, DualShockers.]
DualShockers: Could you talk in more detail about the improvements the team is doing to the master version that was recently showcased?

Hajime Tabata: You won’t really see a huge difference from Gamescom today, because it is only two weeks since then, so the build that we have here has been improved slightly, but the biggest difference is that you have a bit more freedom in steering while driving. That is one of the biggest changes you’ll see in the build that you’ll play today.
That was one of the things that we intended to add with the day one patch, and has already been implemented.

DS: What about the improvement that we’ll see when the game will be released?

HT: Originally what was intended for the patch was all these elements that would improve the usability of the game. That also includes fixing bugs or optimizing the actual game. And also the freedom to steer your car. On that point, allowing our players to freely steer their car impeded on some of the progress in the game, so wanted to make sure that the game itself was perfected prior to actually implementing that aspect, and to solve any issue that might come out from that.
There are other factors similar to that that were also considered for the day one patch.
Aside from the whole optimization element, the other big factor was the game balance. For example, in the leveling system. We are ensuring that people will be able to better navigate the information and play at ease. These improvements were also originally intended for the day one patch.

DS: You mentioned that the first part of the game is open world, while the second part tightens on a more story-driven narrative, built around a train ride. During that second part, can we still go back and explore the open world, or we’re bound to the linear path until the end? I remember that we’ll get the flying Regalia only towards the end of the game, so there has to be some room for roaming, isn’t it?

HT: To go back on the more linear part of the game… It actually transfers into that linear part of gameplay when the story ramps up and gets into its final stages. Rather than the latter half of the game, it’s very close to the end of the game, so to speak.
After the train segment, the whole structure of the game completely changes. You cannot go back and forth on the world map between the two parts. That said, there is gonna be a menu function that allows you to access the earlier areas that you roamed around in the earlier parts of the game.
Once you’re done with the train segment, it’s not yet the end of the game. There is still another set of events that awaits you. I can’t tell you what it’s going to be, but it drastically changes up [the game].

DS: We’re just three months from the goal. It’s been a long journey, but the pieces are finally falling in place. Yet some of the responses online to the delay have been a bit extreme. How are you feeling?

HT: In regards to some of the responses online, it’s always unclear how much those reflect the actual situation. I’m not too concerned about those comments floating around. That said, towards the people that have been waiting for a long time, and need to wait another two months for it, and are disappointed, I feel very apologetic. But we can’t just apologize. We want to make sure that we are providing them with something that they will enjoy. This goes hand-in-hand.
I wouldn’t say that I am stressed, and through this experience I have gained extensive understanding on why so many people are needed during the last leg of development. Looking at some of the global developers of open world games, we see that they bring in a lot of people during the final phase to finalize the game. This is something that I couldn’t unfortunately foresee, because it was a first time experience.
That said, I am grateful that I was able to learn from this experience, and to request two months of extension to the deadline to really finalize the game, optimize it, and polish it, and deliver it in the best conditions. I am really grateful for that.
The person who was really, really angry at the situation was my daughter (laughs). She assumed that the release of the game meant going on a trip somewhere, or getting more time with her dad, and she was very upset for the fact that it’s going to have to wait two more months. Surely that’s the same for a lot of the developers on our team, and I am very sorry about that as well.
Obviously, we were aware of the repercussions of extending the release date, and we made this decision together as a team. In that sense, we’re taking it to heart, and really taking as much time as possible to deliver the game in the best condition.

To read the entire interview, you can go here.

Gotta get those slim units selling somehow.

Worst case scenario would be if they slowly start supporting the current PS4 in favor for the slim and pro versions instead. :(

don't you mean they would drop support for the current PS4 in favor of the Slim and Pro?

A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV New Footage Shows Off King Regis’ Moves . September 14, 2016 . 6:30pm

At GameStop Expo 2016, Square Enix detailed several of young King Regis’ attack options, including combos and summons.

At the GameStop Expo today, Square Enix shared new footage of the pre-order bonus game for A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV. During the live demonstration, some of young King Regis’ combos and attack options are detailed.

“We’ve tried to really make it unique in the fact that it’s not just a hack and slash. You’re not just mashing buttons. There are certain enemies that will parry attacks, will block attacks, so you really actually have to be strategic on some of these things,” a representative from Square Enix stated. “It’s definitely not easy.”

“More than a couple” summons have also been confirmed to make an appearance, including Titan and Leviathan. Classic Final Fantasy enemies like Cactuar, Malboro, and Flan are also in the game; although, the main villain is something players uncover as they progress. Completing the main storyline can take players about two to five hours to complete the story. Additional time can also be spent on the Challenge Mode, where players are tested with timed tasks.

The full live stream can be viewed in the following video. Coverage of A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV begins approximately at the 22:20 timestamp.
