No one is going to take away Bryan's brilliant casting choices of the past. He has done well with some very unconventional choices that, thankfully, have turned out to be powerful actors on screen.
However, I
will take this from him: The fact that he even
considered Lautner and Meagan Good for Storm speaks volumes to me. It shows that at least in the area of Storm,
Bryan still doesn't "get it". And that's the way it is. To illustrate: Some comic book writers don't "get" certain heroes and therefore write/draw them terribly out of character. Reginald Hudlin's take on the Black Panther is a good example of that. Similarly, directors are capable of botching certain characters too. I personally believe that George Lucas is a solid director. Mark Hamil? Carrie Fisher? Harrison Ford? Excellence at its best.
But his creation of Ja Ja Binx????
x 1,000,000. That wack casting choice marred those early prequels for a LOT of moviegoers. Kinda like uh....Halle Berry's Storm did for fans of this franchise.
All it takes is for one poorly cast actor to weaken the cohesiveness of an entire film to the point where the bad actor/actress actually detracts from it.
Compi, Do
you want to go through another 8-10 years of watching one of the top X-Men being an eye/ear sore for an entire film with fans whining incessantly over it with no end in sight??? I do not.
So in the case of Storm, like I said, get Bryan OUT of the casting chair. He still doesn't "get the character" or her essence at all...even 10 years later. He's still going for paint-by-number, cardboard T&A eye candy and Meagan Good is definitely in that column.
Bad.
