Days of Future Past First Class Official Casting Thread

In X3 thirty something Xavier recruits a child Jean Grey.

Now we get a frat boy looking Xavier recruiting late teen X-men.

X3 flaws aside, I prefer the former.

I wonder what McAvoy will look like with a shaved head. :p

I'm fine with this casting. I love the director. I'm thrilled that Bryan Singer's name is on it again. But I can't get excited about this. Can't do it. I am afraid for Matthew Vaughn on a personal level because I don't want him to have to deal with Fox.

This movie could have a cast and crew assembled entirely of multiple-oscar winners. But the X-Men franchise will never be safe when it's in Rothman's hands.

Their are a lot of people who don't look their age...I'm 23 and still get told I look 18-19...we don't know how long this movie is going to be so for part of this film we're going to see them, probably late 20's, early 30's when the X-Men come in they may be in their late 30s, to 40, so that would put the X-Men in there late teens, 17-19, maybe....its simple math folks...

how old McAvoy 'IS' is irrevalent, its how old he 'LOOKS' which is important. if he looks slightly older than his students than that is terrible casting

How do you know he will recruit late teen X-men ?? Have you read the script or something ?

From the way he is cast as Charles, they might have recruited Jean in 70's and Charles met Cyclop after he had a fall out with Eric.

Again how do you know his character will be recruiting ? The script could have changed and the movie seemed to be focusing on the young Eric and Charles discovering their power and befriends one another.

We no longer have the First class that we knew before with the focus on the teen Jean, Cyclop and Emma. The official synopsis seems to have changed to !

With the casting of James Macavoy, may be the movie will talk about Charles and Eric, with the story from X-men Origins : Magneto incorporated into this movie. Eventually only mutants that turn up could be young Beast, Jason and very young Jean (as seen from X3 but with different actress in this one)

Another antagonist against Charles and Eric and in the end feud among themselves.

Cyclop, Emma and others probably end up in X-men Second class. This will take years to come out and by the time they could continue with the new cast. After all Famke and Halle are pushing 50 years old.

Charles - James Macavoy
Eric - Aaron Johnson
Apocalypse - Viggo Mortensen

Beast - Wentworth Miller

I dont see how people have a problem with his age, in X1, Xavier states, "when i was a YOUNG man I met a man named Eric Lensherr......"

This is their formataive years, I imagine the first half of the movie will be Xavier and Magneto as young men and then the 2nd half will be them forming the school.

EDIT: Moved to casting topic...

But I like McAvoy as a choice too.

I totally agree with you. People jumped to the conclusion that they will see teen X-men being recruited by teen looking actor in this movie. The trick is we may see the teen x-men with De age Patrick Stewart in the beginning of the movie, then the movie goes back to Charles and Eric's origins.

Basically the characters do appear, but the actors are at different timeline in the movie !!!

james McAvoy Is In his early 30's.We could see him play Xavier at beging In
his early twneties but still with some hair and after the first half hourafter
showing the meeting between Xavier and magneto them becoming firends and beging to work together. After that cutting to almost 20 years later with
a now bald Xavier. And Cyclops,Jean and others are already students so
they can avoid calling back to The Last Stand or Wolverine. Some students
will be younger versions from the exsisting trilogy. Some will be characters
will be from comics not yet used.

The compasion people should look at Is Star trek. That Is what Bryan Singer
has compared First Class to.

Mccavoy Bald will help sell he Is older.

its cheaper to use this guy for a flashback and then use some make up to make him older.

that way they can use him for 3 movies and not be scared that he will look to old .

smart choice IMO

McAvoy is a talent, I like him as a young Charles, though I didn't think they were going so young, I guess that means the cast from XM:OW would probably be too old for the students

Really intrigued by this casting, and am curious to see who they get for Magneto. I was thinking Joseph Gordon-Levitt could be a good shout, given the age range they have gone for in comparison to McAvoy's casting.

^JGL would be great, he's a bit scrawny though, if they aged him appropriately and he'd buff up a bit I think he'd do the role justice

Great news for me. Im surprised, and more excited day after day.

I like James work, and Im really interested to see him as young Xavier.

Maybe this movie will end being a really great movie, lol

OMG once again you guys are worrying to much...when McKellen was cast as Magento ppl were complaining because he's "too old, but good actor" or "Magento, should be muscular/strapping like the comics"

PREEEEEEEEACH!!! So. TRUE! Fanboys are NEVER Satisfied with casting announcements save for few (i.e. Bale as Batman, Stewart as Xavier). And the main reason the fanboys were happy with Stewart as Xavier is because he had already played an iconic BALD character on TV and film.

McAvoy's hair can be shaved off, people. What matters to me is that the producers, director, and casting directors are casting quality actors. This is a good sign.

I'm confident that McAvoy will do a great job. Can't wait to hear the next casting choice

Jonathan Rhys Meyers for a young Magneto.

Huh. McAvoy is one of my favorite "new" actors, but I still can't quite imagine him as Xavier. Well, I'm not against the casting.
