Days of Future Past First Class Official Casting Thread

One of the best parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was seeing the young mutants escape into Charles Xavier's custody. It would be awesome if they had McAvoy play a young Charles, and Patrick Stewart play a Charles Xavier who is 45 and older as they form the school and create the X-men.

I could obviously be wrong but how do we know they aren't casting someone for an older Professor X as well. McAvoy could just be in scenes from the past way before the team was started. Whether they do flashbacks or just start the movie off like that. Show him when he first meets Erik then after awhile they jump a bit into the future when he's first building the X-men team.

I don't like it, I like McAvoy and Johnson, but I think in regards to physical looks there is f-all between them. Considering they had Patrick Stewart play Xavier in Wolverine this is a pretty insane casting decision. Fox might as well come and out and say reboot.

I really don't see an issue. McAvoy is 31 and playing Xavier as a "young man discovering his powers". Why would anybody expect him to be older?

And as far as Patrick Stewart in X3 and Wolverine, well in X3 they WERE casting younger actors for Xavier and Magneto in that scene. I remember the casting call. Not sure exactly what happened, but someone in the production thought it would be a whole lot cooler to use Patrick and Ian and then de-age them. The reason they appear to be in their 40;s in X3 is because when they went younger, they looked creepy (heck, they STILL look creepy in X3). As for Wolverine, well after de-aging them in X3 where they just supposed to hire a young actor for that 10 second cameo? Especially when the audience only knows of Patrick Stewart in the role? And then they'd have to recast again for this movie?

But what really gets me is that X3 and Wolverine are almost unanimously hated by fans of the film, yet it's because of those exact films why people seem to have a problem with First Class, despite the fact that we know next to nothing about when First Class takes place, or how many years it will span.

I really don't like this idea of ignoring the past four film's cannon...

Why did we make these films (which weren't all bad) and set up all that they have in terms of back story and setting up films (like an X-Men First Class) if we were just to abandon it.

I'm really, REALLY skeptical as to how this movie is shaping up.

They should just ignore Wolverine for all future X-Men movies.

I know I did not just read Aaron Johnson can pass for 30-40? Some of youbare really grasping at straws. The guy looks 19-23 tops. I also see no reason to make him Cyke when their was already good enough kid that looked closer to Scott/James Mardsen in Wolverine.

So are we going to get all Brittish actors for the Xmen from Vaughan. Americans gotta eat too.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers for a young Magneto.

HELL YES!!! I can get behind this casting.

Unfortunately. He would have been perfect.

Perhaps it's because Tim Pocock is 25 now, or that he has little to no experience. Either way, I don't see why Vaughn and Singer need to be tied down to an actor who had an extended cameo in another person's movie. This is Vaughn's movie and he should be able to cast whoever he wants.

Well the only American actors playing X-Men in Singer's movies were Halle Berry and James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer in X3. It's not as though they need to be American.

Hiring a Brit for Xavier makes sense considering Patrick has the best English accent in the known nebula. Xavier is supposed to be intelligent too, and if Hollywood has taught us anything it's that people with English accents are either intelligent, villains, or both. We may get a Brit actor for Magneto too, hopefully.

I'm sure they'll hire American actors for Jean and Beast, and Cyclops if Aaron Johnston isn't playing him.

For Aaron Johnson, he definitely looks and acts his age.

If you ask me, if they cast him as Cyke, he can definitely play 17-18. I mean, he reminds me of Tobey/Franco in Spider-Man and even they looked older than him.

With a little gray put into his eyebrows, a shaved head, I'm sure McAvoy can play mid 30's. I've also noticed that in his movies where he's doing an American accent, he seems to go up a little bit higher in his voice. If he uses his natural speaking voice, he'll be able to drop it a little lower much more naturally and come off sounding older.

Progress finally!!

Can't complain with the Xavier casting.

HAhaha, I like it

Marion Cotillard can play 80 something Edith Piaf, so I don't see why Aaron can not play teenage Erik, up until a middle aged Magneto. It's easier to make someone look older than they are than younger. For example Madonna playing 15 year old in early scenes of Evita.

But not a convincing 15-year-old.

I would imagine aging someone is easier than making them look younger.

I was only talking about Aaron possibly being Cyclops.

Aaron playing Erik would be a lot trickier, IMO....

Seriously, folks..."technically" this is "speculation," but I think this pic is a pretty big clue as to where Vaughn could be going -- or has already gone (you just haven't heard it officially, yet).

Study that pic, and tell me which previous prominent X-actor this guy resembles most (and he's not even made-up to look like the character here!)...

I'll give you a hint...it ain't James Marsden...

i wld say James Mardens based offhis bone structure, but umm I'm clueless here...maybe he is playing a young Magneto...

Slashfilm put up a good article on Friday using good old fashion "connect the dots" logic on Johnson appearing in First Class. If it turns out to be the case, they deserve props for calling it.

I wonder if they would be able to use prosthetics to make the actors look more like Stewart/McKellen...
