Days of Future Past First Class Official Casting Thread

Ive always loved rose byrne. Id love to see her play dr moriah mctaggert

American child actress Morgan Lily (2012) has been cast as young Mystique in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS! “Winter’s Bone” actress Jennifer Lawrence will play an older version of the character. Looks like we’ll see what Mystique meant when she said…
“It’s people like you who made me afraid to go to school as a child.” in X-MEN.

She joins a cast of James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Edi Gathegi as Darwin, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Havok, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Rose Byrne as Dr. Moira MacTaggert, Oliver Platt as The Man in Black, and Kevin Bacon.
June 3, 2011…save the date!

Thanks, Ant!

I don't think we should freak if Storm, Jean and Cyclops aren't in this.

Storm, Jean and Cyclops (along with Wolverine) are the most bankable names in this franchise. Without Logan, the film could still do okay. But without all FOUR of them? Fail. :down

Now, of course, that's just my opinion. But if you don't believe me, look at the response to our new front page poll which is trying to get a pulse on how fans feel about this production's casting. So far, the majority of people are full of "Meh" with regards to the casting because there are no real "heavy hitting" characters cast yet.

I think it's a big mistake to make an X-Men film without the core four (or least 2 or 3 of the core). If this film gets lackluster response, we won't have a sequel to introduce Storm, Jean and Scott in.

Hi all,

longtime lurker here, been around since the days of Spider-Man 2. Anyway, like many others I've been confused with this whole First Class debacle, specifically with the casting. I'd like to share my thoughts with you, if that's ok.
I remember a while ago reading either Singer or Vaughn (I don't remember) stating in an interview that some of the casting announcements were false or incorrect, to throw people off I geuss. The characters the actors were announced to be playing, were not the actual characters they are going to play. This got me thinking about some of the characters that are supposed to be appearing in this film, the additions that struck me as most odd were Banshee and Havok. I mean, why put them in an X-men origin movie? they're cool and all, but seriously. Bringing them into the first film would only screw up the already screwed up continuity even more. My guess is Lucas Till, who is supposed to be playing Havok, is actually playing Angel. And Caleb Landry Jones, who is supposed to be playing Banshee, is actually Iceman. I mean think about it, why would Fox/Singer/Vaughn go through the trouble of putting out fake casting announcements when no one besides us fanboys knows who these characters are? Or even care for that matter. There's no reason for all the secrecy.
The reason I think they're playing Iceman and Angel because Singer or Vaughn (again, I'm not sure. And I don't have any links either..) compared this movie to last years Star Trek. Now, that could have ment visually or whatever, but Star Trek was also a retelling of a popular franchise, a preboot/requel if you will. Could be the people involved in this got wise and saw an oppurtunity to set things straight by taking ellements from the previous films, but changing whatever they feel could be done better.
As for Nicholas Hoult playing Beast, I think that is correct. His presence in this film doesn't need to be 'disguised' like Angel's and Iceman's, because were expecting him to be in this film. He was in X-3 afterall, one off the movies First Class is supposed to be a prequeling (not a word). Only ones missing are Cyclops and Jean, who I think have yet to be cast.
I'm not saying I'm right about all this, I'm just saying it's possible. Maybe it's just wishfull thinking. I mean, who wouldn't want a decent start of a new X-men franchise starring Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman and Marvel-girl??
That's it, I'm out. This post has gotten waaayyy to long already..

Great first post and welcome to the Hype.

That is definitely possible. It'd be a pretty vanilla-looking cast (i.e. zero diversity) but...truer to the comic I guess. Let's wait and see.

should not worry Vaughn is very specific when he casts his leads he almsot walked away from kick ass because he couldn't find his kick ass

He almost walked away from a movie he was independently funding?

That has nothing to do with the characters. Everyone has made up their mind about this film already because it's "X-Men" and "Fox". And that's probably continue until a trailer hits.

At least that's what I've seen from across the internetz.

I'd put Magneto up there with the four of them but otherwise I kind of agree. I don't think that it's impossible to make a movie without any of those four but I'm not sure if the interest will be there without them.

yes

he said it in empire interview how he did'nt like any of the auditions at all for what he wanted for Dave Lizewski and was close to just stopping the project

till Aaron Johnson auditioned

LOL.. he was being over dramatic. Don't take everything Vaughn says as complete truth. He obviously wasn't going to stop production on Kick-Ass after worker so hard to get it off the ground without any studio backing.

Mhm, that might be a part of it. Anything from FOX is not going to be embraced with open arms right now...not anymore.

But at the same time, you have to admit that they've pretty spent all of their time casting B and C-List characters that most people don't care about. Even Xavier and Magneto don't rank as high on most fanboys/mainstream audiences' lists in terms of huge interest-grabbers.

The key is Cyclops, Jean, Storm and Logan. Especially if they are not casting any big name actors in this film...they at least need to cast big name characters. Those four characters (along with Beast, etc.) are the action figures kids want, the characters that Burger King puts on the side of their drinking cups. They are the X-Men in most people's minds and will get butts in seats.

Not...Azaeal...or whatever. No one gives a f*** about him. LOL :whatever:

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you. But honestly, if the story Vaughn and Singer cooked up doesn't include Jean/Scott/Storm then the last thing I would want is Fox finding a way to shoehorn them in. :(

If the trailer shows awesome action scenes and effects, with shots of Xavier, Magneto, Mystique (arguably one of the most popular with audiences besides Storm and Wolverine), and a post fur Beast.. along with KEVIN BACON and the title X-MEN, I think the film will sell just fine.

Ok, I am SO GLAD to see Moira in this film. I hope this squashes those Emma Frost love triangle rumors.

As for the castng,

I wouldn't get too attached to her playing Moira JP.

Let's just say that some of our peers here are onto something and FOX is throwing out bogus character names to throw us off. Could we be possibly looking at Rose playing Jean?

I just looked at a bunch of Rose Byrne pics.

She would be so much better as Jean.

I'm not buying that conspiracy. LOL

I know that when they were casting, the sides had different names (Derek, Howler, Willow). But I think everyone announced to far is legit. I mean, Rose is the same age as McAvoy. :p Plus, why would they disguise who Bacon and Platt are playing? Why not just give us a false name?

calling it now Kevin bacon is Master Mind lol

“I don’t think it would be right to give that away, but he’s really going for it,” said Vaughn when asked about Bacon’s character in the film. “He’s really up for it, and he’s going for it. I’m just thrilled that we could get him.”
“He will surprise you,” said Vaughn. “I’ll put it that way: He will surprise you with the kind of things he will do in this movie. He’s not going to be what you expect at all when you first meet him in the film, you will be surprised that it’s him.”
I have a feeling that all the suggestions everyone has had about who Bacon is is dead wrong. :oldrazz:

Mastermind was a mutant with the power to generate complex telepathic illusions.
thinks back to inception idea

grasping at straws here:awesome:

anyways i wonder who they still could get for cyclops and jean that can match the current cast
