I just don't feel like Channing Tatum would fit in nicely with the FC cast and the younger actors they would hire to play the younger Jean, Ororo and Scott. He's an adult and he will turn 35 by April of 2015.

He would be more fitting with the original cast (Hugh Jackman, James Marsden, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page...).

Ha, it's been awhile since I've been in these parts. Had a feeling the Gambit fans will be out in full force after the announcement.

My two cents worth... Not thrilled with Tatum as Gambit, but I'm willing to give him a chance (I've been wrong before-hello, Quicksilver!)

I would like to see him in Apocalypse, but I'll live without it, as long as they are doing the 80's Apocalypse story, and not the Age of Apocalypse from the 90's. Gambit had a pretty big role in AOA (I think he was the only Xman to get his own title in that crossover), and I have been dying for Gambit and the Xternals to appear in some medium or another for years.

And as for the aging thing...couldn't they go by the comics and resolve it by having Gambit taking the Exlir of Life (I think that what is was called...) that everyone else in the Guilld took to live, like, forever?

Some things to think about...

1. Fox needs a not so distant future replacement "go to" character as Hugh's Wolverine is (ironically) aging out. Don't get me wrong, Hugh Jackman is still in amazing shape and can still pull off the character, and may be able to do it for a few more years, but a some point (relatively soon) either Hugh will be done with Wolverine, or he will age out of the role. The point is that they need another character that the general audience loves, and Gambit is a really good possibility.

2. These movies take a long time to develop. Looking at the plans, Deadpoll will release in February of 2016, X-Men Apocalypse will release in May of 2016, Wolverine 3 in March of 2017, and an unknown X-Men movie in July of 2018. In addition, allegedly there will be X-Force and Gambit movies, though the years are unknown. With these actors, not moving forward can be problematic. A currently popular actor or actress can become less so, or start to cost too much, or quickly age out of certain roles.

3. The more they can introduce a character before their own movie, the more familiar the general audience is with them, making them more likely to go see it. Gambit would effectively be the epitome of this issue.

4. Think about the Apocalypse stories. Who is normally involved? Mr. Sinister is commonly found in them. And Mr. Sinister and Gambit have a very important history that would play well on the big screen.

5. Think about characters that Gambit has specifically been paired with. The one that speaks to me the most is Storm, which was from the story when Gambit first joined the X-Men. Most of you probably remember this story, where Storm was de-aged and Gambit and she went up against the Shadow King:



Now I'm not saying de-age Storm or use the Shadow King, just that Gambit and Storm have a canonical older brother/younger sister relationship, so why not use that?

6. This movie-verse has effectively ruined a romantic relationship between Gambit and Rogue (she's with Bobby and she's in the OT) or between Gambit and Storm (She's being recast as 16 years old in 1983 or she's older in the OT). Ok, lets accept it. No romance between Gambit and Rogue or Gambit and Storm. Fine, lets move on then...

7. It sure looks like Fox's focus is going to be this new cast of characters in the First Class timeline. Look, if you're recasting Storm, Jean and Scott; then that's where you're going to focus your future movies. Especially if that timeline can include McAvoy's Professor X, Lawrence's Mystique, Fassbender's Magneto, Hoult's Beast, Peters' Quicksilver and of course, Jackman's Wolverine. If Fox was smart (which is questionable) then they would be planning to having numerous X-Men movies with this cast in the 1980's and 1990's. There are many good stories and this is a proven cast of very popular actors and actresses. If they get it right for Storm, Jean and Scott, and maybe also do a young Nightcrawler; then they have pure gold!

So look, if it makes sense to continue using this new First Class timeline cast (with young Storm, Jean and Scott) then it makes sense to use Gambit in this timeline. Fit him in and use Tatum's start power as another boost for ticket sales.

Setting him up well in this movie will set him up for a solor flick, as well as additional roles in future X-Men movies. He could effectively become the next Wolverine (maybe).

Use the relationships from canon that can be used. Have him do something for Mr. Sinister that will affect his relationship with the X-Men in the future. Have him act as an older brother figure for this new, young Storm. Why not use the thief connection between Storm and Gambit as well as the Egypt connection between Storm and Apocalypse?

Now I'm not saying that Gambit should be a main focus of this Apocalypse story, just that he should be more than a quick cameo. Really, he needs to be introduced to the X-Men (like using Storm as the way in) and by the end of the movie he needs to be with the X-Men (if not considered an X-Men in status). If this movie ends with the X-Men characters as follows, they'll be in perfect shape:

Professor X
Beast
Cyclops
Marvel Girl (or Jean)
Storm
Gambit
Nightcrawler

Magneto
Quicksilver
and maybe others (like Acolytes)

Mystique and others (like Destiny, Toad, etc.)

Imagine what they could do in future movies? How perfect would it be to have a new X-Man join in the next movie, one that could be a romantic character for Storm? That character could possibly be Forge?

Next they could go against Mr. Sinister and get into the whole Gambit betrayal stuff, or they could go to space with the whole Asteroid M story, or maybe it could be time to bring the Shi'ar into things, and you know that Starjammers would be amazing (do you think they fall under Fox?).

And Gambit could easily be set up for an origin type story, such as Honor Among Thieves with Bella Donna, the Thieves and Assassin guilds, the Tithe Collector, etc. It's a good origin story, that is not truly an origin story (since it takes place in the present, though gets into the origin), and the concept of the Thieves and Assassin's Guilds would translate well to the big screen.

^ But with the possibility that by the say third film or so Gambit, who would be possibly in his late 20's or early 30's, and Storm, who would possibly be in her early 20's, could become romantic. It's wouldn't be icky by that point...

For now, keep it where Gambit is kind of a "protector" or older brother type relationship for Storm, and it could work very well, while being per canon.

Also, since we know they won't use Gambit's normal colored uniform (is that pink, purple, fucsia?) that first one would be pretty cool.

That's not something I want to be concerned about right now, but as hopeful as I want to be, I get the same feeling too. For instance, if they introduce Mister Sinister at some point, I could see Scott's connection to him being minimized or ignored in favour of Gambit's. But, as I said it's not something I'll worry about until I see it happen.

^ As I previously wrote about, I believe the best way to show the thief connection is in Cairo, Egypt (which is per canon). Gambit is there and a young, white haired street thief tries to steal his wallet (or something). Chase ensues, Gambit (of course) wins and displays his powers. Since Ororo would have never seen anyone else with mutant powers like she secretly has she would be very interested in Gambit. She follows him to the Great Pyramids and sees him enter. She follows. Secret inner chamber is where Apocalypse (and his Horsemen) are slumbering (which is per canon). He is awoken, the Horsemen attack Ororo, Gambit protects her, they try to escape, cave-in, claustraphobia (per canon - but not a major part of the character development), and they are saved by the X-Men. Since she's hurt, and the Horsemen are too powerful, they escape.

This is a perfect way to set things up and gives us so many things that we want, including:

- Storm as a street thief
- Gambit showing his thieving skills
- Egypt
- Apocalypse's alien technology
- The brotherly/sisterly relationship between Gambit and Storm
- At least a nod to Ororo's claustrophobia
- Professor X (and the X-Men) finding Ororo (and Gambit)
- A story plot that makes sense and ties these characters together
- A story plot that could tie Sinister to Gambit (that's why he was at the pyramid)

As far as Cyclops and Gambit, and who would get the screen time, what is great is that up until this point it would all be separate. Cyclops would be leading his team of Jean and whomever (Quicksilver?), and hanging with and learning from Professor X and Beast; while Gambit and Ororo would be doing their thing. Once together, Cyclops would still be the leader, while Gambit is more of the silent type, with the witty banter, but mostly there to protect Ororo. This works!

I am not sure to see 16 years old Cyclop as leader in Apocalyspe .
He can have important role and presence but i still think the big 4 will be Xavier, Magneto, Mystique and Beast.

Maybe Singer can go with the family angle

- Xavier family: Beast, Cyclop, Jean , Storm
- Magneto family: Quicksilver, Wanda, Toad
- Mystique family: Nightcrawler
And, you can have the brother/sister relationship for Gambit and Storm .

When I say that Cyclops will be the leader what I mean is of the new team.

Yes, Professor X will be in a teaching/mentor roll, but it's very unlikely that he'll be out there in the field, going up against Apocalypse and his Horsemen. Maybe he'll be in the jet trying to breakthrough to wake Wolverine out of it, but I just can't see him being a field leader.

Beast would be a likely candidate to still be in the field, and even a leader of sorts with his age and experience, but this isn't about Beast being a field leader. Will he be in the field fighting? Hard to say. If I was writing I would find a way to take Beast out of the picture as far as the fight in the field against Apocalypse and the Horsemen. He'd either have to stay with Professor X and protect him, or have some equipment issue that only he could deal with, been captured and turned into a Horseman or captured to be turned into the Dark Beast to be used for a future movie. The point is that they need to put the X-kids into the field and show the field leader, which as inexperienced as we know he'll be, is Cyclops.

So how can this be believeable? How can the audience be cinvinced that a 16 year old Cyclops will be able to be the field leader and defeat Apocalypse? That's a very fair question. First, we'll need to see that he is being trained to be the field leader. That he is put into that position during the training sessions. That Professor X has selected him very specifically for this role. The good side of this is that Cyclops will get what he's always been missing, but it needs to be done very carefully in order to be believeable.

One thing I could see being done is that all of the teams will be brought together in order to defeat Apocalypse. Cyclops may very well be leading the team of X-kids and maybe they are able to take out a Horseman. I could see Mystique and her Brotherhood taking out another and maybe Magneto the third. And if Professor X is able to stop Wolverine and get him to "wake up" then we would have a huge group going up against Apocalypse all at once. If done in this way Cyclops would have been a "leader", but only of Storm, Jean, maybe Nightcralwer, maybe Gambit, and maybe Quicksilver; but during the final attack on Apocalypse it would likely be Professor X mentally coordinating the attack.

i was totally against Tatum as Gambit but over time it has been growing on me. looks wise, he definitely has the Gambit look and hopefully he will have long hair.

Tatum's acting has been improving, more so in comedy, but i am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. interested in seeing how his Cajun accent sounds like though because that will be what makes or breaks the part in my opinion

I was hoping DOFP was the last we'd see of Quicksilver, as even though his show off scene was excellent, his inclusion in future films would create a lot of problems (he can solve everything).

That said if he shows up in Apocalypse, I hope he's not one of the "First Class." If he absolutely has to, THEY HAVE GOT TO FIX HIS HAIR. And costume.

I think having him in Apocalypse would make the film too crammed in. My idea is, Storm runs away from the mansion at the end of the movie and then Gambit cameos in the mid credit scene to take her in as her mentor.

Then the Gambit movie can then feature this odd couple in a heist movie with a superhero twist.
